UK iPhone 5s and 5c Thread

Pleasant surprise

Ordered on the 20th – 5s White/Silver 64. Estimated delivery 8th–11th October. Sigh.

Then got an e-mail Monday to say ordered has been shipped. Estimated delivery 8th–11th October. Why such a long time to ship?

Today, clicked the 'Track Shipment' link from the e-mail, estimated delivery 7th October. Nice!

Then an hour back, clicked 'Track Delivery' from the Apple Orders page. Out for delivery: Estimated Delivery 4th October. Sweet! Will arrive tomorrow!

But Out for Delivery?! What, for more than 24hrs? Then ran a search on the UPS Tracking number: Delivered 2pm. Delivered? WTF?!

Rang my wife: 'Oh yeah, a package just came for you'.

Am working from home this afternoon...
 
To those in the vague 'October' dispatch time-frame. I'd keep looking at CPW and/or Three to try and get one that way (unless you're near an Apple store) .. there's a chance you could get one earlier that way. Although if you order with them I'd NOT cancel your Apple order until the phone is in your hands!
Yes, it's frustrating that the date isn't more specific but if you ordered close to the beginning you can know that you'll be the next batch or so after the end of the 8-12 days ones.
I had confirmation email at 12.03 on the first day and my phone is due to arrive with me by the end of next Tuesday so there's still a fair way to go it seems. Add into that the possibility that if you ordered Gold 32GB and 64GB (and maybe one or two of the others) then they are, for whatever reason, taking longer by at least a week!

For someone who orders the "Unlocked" version, will it work in a foreign country?

I have a sister studying in the UK right now, I was thinking about getting an iphone 5s and having her bring it home when she comes to visit in not too long.

Hi,

yes it will. Bought an iPhone in the UK and using it with a spanish SIM right now. Just make sure you buy it from an apple store or the apple store online, not a reseller like Carphone Warehouse.

concerned now, phone has still not had a departure scan at Dubai airport, but the flight to Cologne leaves in 3 minutes, d'oh! :confused:

The departure scan for HK was about 10 mins later after the plane had actually taken off, so there is time yet.

I'm pretty sure the phones would have just stayed on the plane, since it's final destination is Cologne.

My 32gb/Silver arrived earlier along with the 3 PAYG SIM for £10 I had to add to the order. Stupidly, Three included a standard PAYG SIM (wtf!) so I had to cut it down. Still works fine and the unlock request is in.

Hmm, I've just realised I may have messed up my unlock request...

I bought my 5s yesterday in a Three store, and got forced into the same £10 top-up deal as you. I also had my existing Three number moved to another separate SIM.

I put in the unlock request using my existing number (now on the replacement SIM), not the PAYG SIM – do you think this is going to cause problems? Is the number tied to that handset? Will they notice it's registered to the same person and therefore a legitimate request? I always fear the worst with these types of things.

Would putting in another request with the new SIM number cause more concern/problems due to two unlock requests for the same IMEI? I just don't want to screw this, because I don't want them to refuse to unlock it.

Wish I'd used the PAYG SIM number now. It didn't cross my mind.
 
Those who got their phone today. Is your gyroscope level? Go into the compass app and swipe. Put it on a level surface and see if it's level. Previous models were off. Wanted to see if it's fixed now.

depends how hungover the Germans are after their holiday!

On my recent trip to Las Vegas we went on a pub crawl, we were playing beer games (using beer - not shots) and this German next to me asked for more than a quarter of a pint of beer as he was German and could 'drink a lot more' - when it came to the drinks he took about 10 seconds to drink 1/4 of a pint! If all Germans are like this we should be ok :D
