Has anyone has any luck at the Apple store Brent Cross?

I went in on Friday evening to try the 5s out and asked when they were getting more stock, I was told Monday. When I went this morning, 1hr before they opened, there were 10 people there being told there was no delivery today.

I just spent a few minutes with a 5S in store, and really, this year if you have a 5 it's probably not worth the upgrade. TouchID seems like a nice to have, and it's a teeny bit speedier, other specs suggest the battery is the same so I'm rethinking the whole 629quid upgrade...

yep, as much as I'm being a bit of an idiot to get one, it's not the most sensible upgrade from a 5.

However, touchID really is very nice and I think it'll save time with the annoying appstore "enter password" prompts either now or eventually. The other thing is that the camera seems to be a decent upgrade from the very very limited playing I did in store.

Ah well, life's short and phones are shiny :)

Unfortunately, it's always worth upgrading if you want to ensure that you get a decent price for your current phone. A month ago you could get £400 for an eleven month old iPhone 5. That quote is dropping like a stone ever since the 5s was announced. I realise that not everyone wants to sell their phone when they get a new one, but getting a decent price for it takes the hit out of paying a premium for new tech (as is always the way with Apple).

Which store did you go to?

Thanks

Anyone who ordered after showing dispatch date: October on Store, what dates are you expecting to receive it?

Exactly, i'm suprised more people don't see it this way. My friends always give me stick for upgrading each year to a model that isn't hugely different but to me it just makes financial sense. I always buy my phones outright so I can stay on a cheap £7-10 a month tariff. Upgrading each year means I can sell the older phone for £300-400 and buy the latest at an affordable price. If i waited another year chances are my current phone won't be in the greatest condition and I wouldn't get anywhere near as much money for it meaning I have to pay through the nose to get the latest model.

Following on from my post back around Page 59, I received my 16gb Space Grey 5S from O2 this morning.

On Saturday, I phoned O2 and signed up for the Refresh tariff of the following:

Airtime Plan: £17 per month
Phone Plan: £169.99 up front, and then 24 months x £15

Received the phone today and I called O2 and paid off the Phone plan (24 x £15 = £360), and cancelled the Airtime contract too. There is no termination charge for this. While on the phone to them, O2 have said they will unlock 5S's as long as the Phone plan is paid off, and not at any time during the contract.

So, here I am, in total I've paid £529.99 for a phone that costs £549 from Apple. A few people earlier tried to say I'd have to pay the £17 x 24 months as well to cancel it, but O2 show it on their website that it's not the case and there is no fee to cancel it.

If you really want the 5S, I'd go down the same route I done, especially if you were ready to pay for the phone outright. I didn't even have to pay for the airtime charge.

Yeah I got told the same thing on Saturday which is why I waited until today. Cant believe I didn't go in yesterday. Yeah there was a wee queue there when i got there I was like in first 15 id have to say at like 8:40am. Was talking to some guy beside me until store opened, the queue went all the way round the corner by then, and when I turned round to look at front there was about another 25 scalpers just appeared from no where in front, was not too happy.

Just checked in the Buchanan Street store, still none in, no idea when to expect them, the usual stuff. I asked about the Saturday delivery and the guy didn't know anything about it, went to ask another guy and apparently they didn't receive anything and haven't sold the 5s since Friday morning.

I'm not sure whether to believe that though - the staff in Apple Stores never seem to be in the loop at all. You'd think they'd know something like this though.

Oh well, I guess I'll probably see you in line tomorrow morning!

Just saw that Handtec has stock of grey 5S in all sizes.
But at a big premium over Apple prices... Why so much more expensive?

Cheers!

Just to be sure, CPW phones lock to the first network, right? Not the first SIM.

Because I don't have a nano for my current 3 phone number. But I have a nano for another 3 phone number, so I can put that in, then later when I get a nano for my CURRENT number, I can just put that in. Thanks for any help.

it could matter for a dispatch from CHINA, air couriers are working 7 days a week and they do land 7 days a week in the UK as well.

i think the end of next week, we'll get our phones :)

But that has got nothing to do with the quoted waiting period. Apple quoted 7 working days, that means 7 days between Mon and Fri, and doesn't include weekends.

I understand your point, and that's how I was seeing it when I made my 5s order, but a 4s 32GB can currently fetch 170 on a recycle site, a 5 32GB is currently 250.

Spending 379 in order to save 80 quid next year is not necessarily 'sound' maths in my view; yes the ebay route gets you a bit more, but that works for the last gen as well, resale on iPhones is always high on ebay.

I feel bad.

I ordered from CPW 16Gb grey for £40 more than retail. I might actually take it back to the store (at least that's what I keep telling myself!) but I think when I see it in my hands, I won't be able to resist. I would have honestly paid up to £600 for it, I've waited for about 4 years to upgrade. Ah...

Bought 32GB from Carphone Warehouse, went with users here and placed a Three SIM and requested unlock (with no topup) and they called today to get my payment and my request has gone through and it should be unlocked within 72 hours.

Can't fault Three's customer service!

the dispatch comes from foxconn in china though and is shipped via ups (both who have business/working days of 7 days a week) and not from apple in us, uk or anywhere else.

check out the 'shipping'-threads that the americans started for reference.
most of their phones shipped from china via korea on the 21st and 22nd (sat. and sun.) and are said to be delivered by the 25th and 26th.
i dont see why it wouldnt be the same case for us.
foxconn always works 7 days a week, ups always works 7 days a week, so why hold back stock from paying customers?!

Sadly missed my call from three, but the voicemail said that they'll call me back and they just need to take payment - from the previous posts on here, looks like the payg three unlock route won't be a problem at all!

Same here, was at work so couldn't answer.

Call 333 (Free) and select option to talk to someone, say you missed a call and they will look at your account and see someone called re: unlock and process it for you!

You'll find that the ones that have shipped were on a 1-3 business days when they ordered (yes, people have complained about their 'special treatment' already. Friday was a business day, and when they were shipped it was likely Monday (another business day) in China, so it fits very nicely into that category.

Being pedantic won't get your phone quicker.
