Hey guys i've just bought a 2nd hand iPhone 4s.

I was wondering if you guys had any tips for setting it up. I had an iphone a few years ago I assume i'll get my apps back?

Probably not the best place for this question. If you go to the AppStore and sign in, it should have a section including your previous app purchases allowing you to download them.

So, so glad Apple made my option available. I've always personally wanted the iPod Touch as an iPhone since the 5 appeared.

Not sure what colour I'm going for yet (shame the pink isn't a bright orange); but I want to replace my horrible Blackberry Z10 phone ASAP. Wondering if going head first into the pre-order will get me a phone on release day...

I'm on the same plan and noticed that the price for new customers has dropped to £18 (one month rolling). If you phone them up and ask to be given the lower price, they'll do it. Worked for me!

Good to know! Though the 5S should be out by my next billing date and I think I'll do the two year contract. I'll pass the details on however!
Could you expand on that one? Just for my interest.

Are you saying that 3 do the iPhone 5 for £69 up front, on a £25 contract. With terms that are equivalent to a £15 sim-only contract. Making the iphone cost £300 over the 2 years of the contract.

Cos yes, that would be a deal worth taking.

The plan is £25 monthly on a one month rolling contract and the premium for a subsidised iPhone brings that up to £35 a month, which is what I meant by an additional monthly cost of £10 for 24 months.

Ah.

But the equivalent SIM only plan is £15 a month.. so actually it's £20 a month that is actually paying for the phone.

AND the SIM-only plan is for 12 months, versus the 24 month £35 phone-including contract.

It's a complicated business this, eh...

Looking to move back to iPhone after giving the HTC One a try.

Was going to go down the 5s route as its always nice to have the latest and greatest but been looking at iPhone 5 prices after yesterday's announcement and the prices seemed to have dropped through the floor and are very tempting:

O2 32gb iPhone 5 - £37 a month no up front cost
O2 64gb iPhone 5 - £37 a month, £69 upfront cost

Really tempted by the 64gb ip5 be nice to have all that storage.

O2 direct is looking like £37 a month with 159 upfront for a 16gb iPhone 5s. Seems a bit steep.

Hmm decisions decisions..

That's a fair point but the SIM-only plan can be taken on a one month rolling basis and that is what I do, for £25 monthly. The contract sans device has no particular appeal.

I love how Vodafone will still sell you an iPhone 5 but try and upsell you to a 4G tarrif- citing the wonders of Spotify and Sky Go as justification! They even tell you that you won't actually get 4G (if you ask, that is).

With the exception of 3 and the likes of gifgaf, good tariffs are few and far between these days. I'm on O2 with a sim free iPhone 5. Still have one of the old 30 day 'simplicity' tariffs. Unlimited data and more minutes & texts than I know what to do with- £19.

I'd love to go to 3 for faster data but their signal where I live in SW London is non-existant. I keep a payg sim in a drawer and try it out once in a while, never gets any better. O2 isn't blazing fast but I get around 7Mbps where I live and up to 14-15 where I work in Central London.

4G... meh. Not if you have to bend over and let them all screw you!

are uk carrier stores getting stock on the 20th of the 5s so you can walk into a store and buy?

Hey fellas,

I've got a 1 month old iPhone 5 locked to EE and looking to sell to fund for a 5s.

Where's the best place I can sell it?

I was thinking eBay but they have. 10% sellers fee don't they?

I'd be very happy if I could get £320 or so for it.

Still got 2 month warranty (as it was a replacement) and not a scratch.

Its really annoying they aren't offering preorders for the 5S and you have to wait until the day of launch and try and get one online or in a store. I sure don't want to or have the time to wait in line for one. I'm hoping I can get a silver 64GB ordered online on the 20th. I guess if I'm not successful I will just keep trying until I do. At least I have a 5 at the moment so its not that big a deal.

Haven't seen this posted:

Looks like I'll be asking for my PAC number and going with either EE or 3, as I can get 30% off an EE contract with work and 3 tend to be quite competitively priced with no data limit.

Appears to have been removed. Twitter reps saying to wait for pricing to be released.

Though I found an article reporting this that says" O2 has revealed that iPhone 5S and 5C buyers won't have access to its 4G LTE network immediately, saying this will be switched on when new settings are sent by Apple. However, those who pick up a handset on a 4G contract at launch will save £5 on their bill." Why?!?

The link is still working. Here's the main bit on prices (16GB only):

iPhone 5s 16GB

Unlimited texts, unlimited minutes & 1GB 3G data: £37 a month with a £119.99 upfront cost

Unlimited texts, unlimited minutes & 5GB 4G data: £47 a month with a £119.99 upfront cost

iPhone 5c 16GB

Unlimited texts, 600 minutes & 750MB 3G data: £32 a month with a £49.99 upfront cost

Unlimited texts, unlimited minutes & 5GB 4G data: £42 a month with a £99.99 upfront cost

That might be worthwhile, if you're happy with a 2 year contract...
=£1008 over 2 years

The equivalent SIM-only (12 month) contract is £21/month.. plus sim-free phone from Apple at £549
= £1053 over 2 years.
..So £45 more expensive, AND the up-front iphone cost, rather than 24 monthly instalments.. but you do have the option of leaving after 12 months, and flogging the phone to pay for the iPhone 6....

Guys, I did start a thread in launch meet ups etc but I've had no response so cheekily I thought I'd ask here.

Has anyone ever done the queuing at Norwich Chapelfield? I'm travelling from an hour away and normally pre order for delivery so it's my first queue! Excited but a little nervous as I've got to go by myself and I like to plan.

Think I've got parking sorted but I'm not sure what time to get there, what enterance would be best etc so anyone that's 'done' Norwich and could provide some advice I'd be very grateful!

xx

Will the carriers offer in on PAYG or sim free at launch?

I seem to remember last year that three offered the iphone 5 sim free for a few extra quid than apple and had stock for ages

I have done, but not for a couple of years so I'm not sure how the last ones have gone. Where are you thinking of parking?

I don't expect all the entrances to be open really early, so I think you might have to go in through the entrance on Chantry Road. That's what I've had to do before.

What might be worth doing is to email Chapelfield themselves and ask them how it might work - as I say, I haven't done one for a while so don't want to give you mis-information. You can email them on chapelfield.information@intu.co.uk. They also have a twitter feed that I think they post info on, but that probably won't be until nearer the time and if you want to plan, that won't help you!

The last queue up's I've done have been for iPad's and when they've opened at 6pm so I'm not sure about the best time for a morning launch...I'd kinda hope you wouldn't need to get there at 4am like some of the other locations!

Not sure how much use this post has been really, but thought I'd try and answer as best I could...

I know someone who lives off Dereham Road so I'm hoping I can park there. If not ill have to find a pay and display somewhere.

I don't have twitter (noone I know uses it so I don't bother), but I will send an email.

Thank you for replying to me! x

OK - if the friend thing doesn't work, you can always drop me a PM and I can try and help suggest somewhere to park, although equally if you know someone, they might be able to help anyway!

Hope it all works out and you get what you're after! x

Thank you. I've sent you a PM!

Emailed Chapelfield and they said they had a meeting with apple yesterday and the security team will come back to me.

Will update my other thread just so if anyone comes across it they will know too.

Thanks for your help! :)

I'm wondering what are my chances like to buy a 5S unlocked at the Buchanan Street store in Glasgow if I arrive at around 7:45am?

The only queueing I've done before was outside the Covent Garden store in London for an iPad 4, and the queue for that was very small (although I expect for the 5C/5S it'll be much larger)

So I have an iPhone 5 on O2 on one of the old 1 month rolling Simplicity deals that has unlimited data, 1200 texts, 600 mins for like £20 per month.

Question 1 - will I be able to use this contract with a 5s to access the 4G network or would it be limited to 3G only?

Question 2 - if I purchase the handset sim-free from the US, will it work on our UK networks' 4G bands?

Question 3 - is the only way for me to get 4G access in the UK to have to switch to an iPhone-specific 4G contract or are there any other more advisable contracts out there?

I'll be in Singapore on launch day. Looking at prices, I can get the 64 gig 5s for about £649, and the Singapore model looks like it has all the UK LTE bands and more. Any downsides to buying abroad, such as warranty?
