I was tempted to pick up a sim free 5C, until I read the price* - it's a no brainer to get the 5S instead - though I'm not going to I'll stick with the 4S for a while I guess.

*I didn't think it would be that cheap, just cheaper than it is.

I'm not sure that's always the case. Generally, yes, but for instance I am on The One Plan with Three on an iPhone I bought from the Apple Store unlocked. It runs £25 a month and if the prices remain similar, that would be a £10 premium for two years (£240) with a £29-£69 up front fee. In my case that would be an additional cost that's half the price of a new iPhone outright.

I'm on the same plan and noticed that the price for new customers has dropped to £18 (one month rolling). If you phone them up and ask to be given the lower price, they'll do it. Worked for me!

I think the iPhone 5c will have sold out by then and will be on the 2-4 weeks schedule by the 20th. If you visit the Apple store on the 20th, you'll probably see a delay on 5c's, but next day delivery on a 5s. That is, if the store is up and running without falling over.)

Yes I will take my chance ordering online. I don't HAVE to have it on release day, as long as it arrives a few days after. Although queuing is fun, they are starting to get ridiculous now. Last year I walked past the Birmingham bulling store, and by 8.30 the line was at least 300 people long!

Does anybody think the 5c will outsell the 5s on release day sales? And will the 5c eventually be apples biggest seller? Will be interesting to se. How the public reacts.

Could you expand on that one? Just for my interest.

Are you saying that 3 do the iPhone 5 for £69 up front, on a £25 contract. With terms that are equivalent to a £15 sim-only contract. Making the iphone cost £300 over the 2 years of the contract.

Cos yes, that would be a deal worth taking.

Further price gouging. I long for the days when an iPhone was just under £400. £709 for a phone is an absolute joke. Its daylight robbery. Also no pre-order. I'm sorry but i'm not gonna queue for a phone. Especially now that fall season is upon us.

Seriously considering just sticking with my iP5. But i'm outgrowing the 16GB storage and want a 32GB phone.

I'm seriously thinking for buying one. I have a 64gb IPhone 5 on T-mobile and my contract runs out next year. But I have owned every IPhone since the first one came out. So I feel as if it's tradition to buy the new one lol.

I must admit £700 is a lot for the 5S and the 5C prices are just ridiculous sim free. But like always people moan at first and then give in and buy one. I reckon selling my iPhone 5 on eBay will help a lot especially If it's unlocked. I am guaranteed £300 plus surely?

Probably between £300 and £330 for a 64gb iPhone 5 in good condition. 16gb were going for around £260+.

I wonder if the USA version of the 5S will work on the UK networks LTE this iteration... From Apple's literature, the US version's only missing channel 7 compared to the UK's...

The price difference unlocked is massive(over £100 more un the UK), so if the bands do actually match, it's a no brainer for me...

...even after you've paid UK VAT?

EDIT - no import duty on iphones.. just 20% VAT

iPhone 5S - 32GB sim-free

US - $749
UK - £629

US
---
Assuming you're over in New York anyway..

Buy the iPhone for $749 + 8.875% state sales tax (not refundable to tourists)
=$815.47

Declare the phone to customs on your return..
They will convert to £ at inter-bank rate..
today that -> £517.10

and charge you 20% VAT = 103.42

Therefore cost of US iPhone back to UK = £620.52

Pretty close to the UK price...

well. i thought i'd be buying the 5C but this has gone out the window for me, I will never buy a sim-locked phone ANYMORE. but will see what pop's up on eBay.. if I can take advantage of the lower price of the phone like the iPhone 5 which is currently on there, cheaper then the Apple store's pricing..

I haven't had an iPhone since the 3Gs, decided to try Android out and got a Galaxy S2. My contract is up now and have been waiting on the 5s to make my decision and after what I've seen I'm definitely been getting one.

My problem with Android is the fragmentation, even the XPeria Z1 isn't being released with the latest version of Android, and then you have the manufacturer skins to make even more of a mess of things.

The new camera looks great if it works as advertised, and the finger print scanner should take the hassle out of unlocking the phone so now it's just a case of seeing which carrier does the best deal. 3 sounds good but have read there is some issues over signal deadspots.

Anyone on EE and knows if they block the WiFi hotspot from settings?

I'd probably get it from a state where I can get my US taxes back, so, it'd still be a saving for me, and be that as it may, I still wonder if the US phone would be fully functional on UK LTE networks...

Anyone any past experience of early upgrade on Orange?

I have had every iPhone except the 3G model and would like to get a 64gb 5S in gold.

I got the 5 on launch day at a Orange store last year on a 2 year contract (grrr - hate that no 12 month contracts anymore!). Until the iPhone 5 I was on contract with O2 and I recall in the past they offered special deals whereby they discounted their normal early upgrade fee to allow upgrades to iphone for a limited period.

From what I can understand from the Orange website I can have an early upgrade if I change to EE (which I don't mind doing too much)
".....we'll let you upgrade onto a new pay monthly price plan on EE with a new phone if you pay an early upgrade fee."
plus
"The early upgrade fee will be calculated as a lump sum equal to the total monthly line rental due for the remaining period of your minimum term on T-Mobile or Orange (on a pro rata basis if you're part way through a monthly billing cycle). We’ll then apply a discount to that amount to get to your final early upgrade fee."

Does anyone know how they calculate this discount to the early upgrade fee? I have had a good look around the site and can't see!

I just got off the phone to Vodafone (my current provider) as my plan is to sell my 32gb 5 (eBay looks to be selling for £380-390) and use the money to pay off the remainder of my contract. As I am only on a 12 month contract with Vodafone and only have a few months left it's not gonna cost me too much money to clear off and start again!

The lady on the phone said they are stocking both the 5c and 5s and I can pre-order a 5c from 13th (no thanks) or I can pre-order a 5s from 20th. I asked if I could walk into the store on the 20th and pick up a 5s and she said 'absolutely' so it would appear I can go straight to my local Vodafone rather than getting a sim free one like I normally do.

Thankfully, Voda still offer 12 month contracts so I'll take one of those out. Even though I will have to pay a bit toward the phone I get 20% on my line rental with Voda through work so I always choose the top tarriff which makes the phone cost the cheapest it can be!

Hopefully this all works out!

Hey guys i've just bought a 2nd hand iPhone 4s.

I was wondering if you guys had any tips for setting it up. I had an iphone a few years ago I assume i'll get my apps back?

Bells and Whistles

The 16GB iPhone 5c form Apple UK website is £469.00 and the iPhone 5s 16GB is
£549.00. Then you get all the bells and whistles of the iPhone 5s for an extra £80.00.

So the 5c is not exactly value for money given the high costs for both the 5c and the 5s.

It will be interesting to see how many of the 5c iPhone's sell. If i was spending money on an iPhone, then I would pay the extra £80.00 for the 5s. On the grand scale of the price, the 5s it's not much more.

Maybe in time Apple may cut the price for the 5c as the price does not make sense, especially if they are trying to increase their market share.
