As I'm heading off back to University on the 20th, I'm really praying that pre-orders are available this time around so that I can (in theory at least) receive it on the 19th. I remember having received confirmation of my iPhone 5 pre-order a good five minutes or so before they were even supposed to have been available, so a similar experience would make me a very happy Apple customer! Also really hoping that the 16GB 4.7" does not exceed £600, otherwise this will be a very sad day for me. Anyway, let the fun and games begin!

Apple store - big line, could get day of release
Apple online/Apple Store app - delays - earliest shipping about 1 week -2 weeks after launch in stores?
8-10 hours queueing, or waiting 1-2 weeks...

If they drop the 32GB completely and the 128GB is a similar price to the current 64GB (£709) then I will be going with that.

I don't think anything less then 64GB will suffice these days especially when you take 1080p videos/apps & OS getting larger too.

But highly unlikely that will happen, let's hope Apple surprises us.

For people that have went to the Apple store on day of launch, have you been to the Sheffield or Leicester store? Wanting to know what one people know of that tend to be busier or better to go to on launch day. I usually go to the Glasgow Braehead store but because of work I am down in England and technically in-between those 2 stores. Any local knowledge?

Hoping there's pre orders too. Looks like they've ramped up production this time round so hope there will be. I will be buying the phone outright this time from Apple.

I bought my 5S from a business owner in West London who had like ten upgrades due from Vodaphone. He took the upgrades got them each Vodaphone unlocked for £20 and sold them on Gumtree for like a £100 discount on full price.

Will only upgrade if I can find a similar deal this time.

16/32/64 configs apparently.

Rumoured 128 for the iPhone 6 Plus.

I've been to the meadowhall (Sheffield) Apple store for the last 2 launches. Queue usually starts at around 10pm the night before but you're good any time before 3am really. Nice bunch of folk and even got free coffee.

You are moved into the shopping centre at around 4-5am as happened the other year due to the cold.

Been happily using the iPhone 4 since the day it was released, well apart from with iOS 7.0.x, those were dark days! 4 years usage for a phone, all with the latest iOS updates, you can't ask for more than that really, here's hoping the iPhone 6 will last just as long.

Was at the front of the queue in Tesco's for the 4, that was the first release they stocked them. I'll probably order an unlocked one direct from Apple this time.

I tend to buy a phone outright from Apple, every two years, when the hardware undergoes a significant change.
Looking at contract prices over 2 years, there isn't much to be saved, but if EE do a special deal I'd think about it.
Currently with EE and happy so the plan is to get the 4.7" iP6 and give my wife my iP5 (she's using a 4 at the moment and I can't believe how much slower it is!)

It would be good if they did pre-orders tonight, they did with the iPad 3. However I don't think they have done same evening pre-orders for the iPhone before.

O2 are hinting that they will be the first UK carrier to offer pre-orders but I can't see Apple letting them offer them before they do.

chances of apple releasing pre-orders after the event?

Slim. Pre-orders from Apple normally start the Friday morning after the announcement.

So, most likely if there will be a pre-order it will be on the 12th.

I'll be buying from the Apple Store.
I've been using O2's Simplicity plan for the last few years, so nearer the time I'll upgrade my Simplicity tariff (as I'm still on one with only 3G data).

Same here. I will preorder and leave the hassel to UPS. Getting it delivered to work as we get UPS deliveries everyday.

For those who are buying outright and going PAYG like myself, I can't recommend Giffgaff highly enough if you are not already with them. Best value for money and service by a country mile, :)

My current EE contract is up, so I'll be getting the iPhone 6 on a new contract.

Looking at moving to Three unless EE or O2 drastically change their data on the plans.

The Apple Store always goes down before the event. It is certainly no indication that they may start taking preorders soon after the announcement.

Tonight, I would expect to be able to see details of the newly announced stuff but no orders will be available. That is generally how it works.

I have vague memories of preorders being opened up next day once, a few years ago, but that may just be my memory playing tricks. As stated above, the standard these days seems to be Friday.

Hoping to get a 5.5 iPhone, worried about the price, expecting a 16gb to be £649.

Will be buying online regardless if there is pre orders or not.

Having a iPhone 5 and being with o2, i can't wait to finally have 4g :D

....I'm also on the 5 and with O2 so will be good to finally have 4G on the iPhone 6! Gonna be upgrading through O2 though on a new monthly contact - not sure I can afford to slap £600+ up front on the counter for the new phone!!

:p

For info, what worked best for me last year was buying a 5S outright from Apple, and then going with a SIM-only contract from Tesco Mobile.
Tesco uses the O2 network, but at lower cost than going through an O2 Simplicity contract.
Plus, they recently made 4G free, so I'm now on a 4G 30-day contract, with 2GB data for £12.50... which I think is pretty good.

[Especially when I hear how our US cousins are paying $80-100 a month!]

.....can you provide your sources? I wouldn't believe that for a second!
