I'm hoping John Lewis will stock the new iPhones from the 25th (because you get a 2 year guarantee for the same price), I gave them a call and he said they will be stocking them but isn't sure when.

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of when John Lewis are likely to get stock? :)

I've never known John Lewis to stick iPhones?

Why aren't many people going for carrier plans?

For me it is more expensive to go with a carrier. I pay £15 a month for my contract. I can sell my iPhone 6+ 64gb for £425 so just pay £275 for the new phone basically.

Why aren't many people going for carrier plans?

Over the last few years in the UK, there have been fewer and fewer contracts with iPhone 'included' that have saved money over the contract length, versus buying the iPhone outright and selecting a SIM-only plan.
Across all the UK networks..

I think it was 2 years ago with the 5S release that we really drilled down into the figures on this forum, and there was no contract option that could beat the outright purchase of the phone**, plus a SIM-only deal.. even '1 month contract' deals, allowing you to change network whenever, unlike the 24 month network contracts.

Of course, there may still be exceptions to this.. special offers, personal offers to good customers, or simply a deal that is right for you..

**(on a 0% credit card, paying it off in monthly instalments, if you really want to compare things exactly!)

[People who are sticking with their old iPhone]
Demand must be a lot lower for these phones..

[People who are buying the 6S or 6S+]
Apple have got much better release day inventory this time..

[Truth]
..probably a bit of both

Personally i think that last year was a massive year and lots were sold. So people that hadn't upgraded for the past 2-3 years upgraded. Plus the people who get one every year. So this year was never going to be a massive thing.

This is the first year I will be getting the S model. I have upgraded every 2 years since the 3G.

I've gone with a carrier plan (EE).

Seemed to me that buying outright + SIM only was within a knats whisker of an EE plan, especially when £97 cash-back is taken in to account.

Unlike most here (it seems) I never benefit from selling my previous iPhone as it gets passed down to my wife, who passes hers to my son, who passes his to become a SONOS controller. We've still got an iPhone 1 in the family!

I agree. Last year pulled in not just the upgraders who like the new exterior design iPhone every 2 years, but also all the non-iPhone users who had been waiting for a larger screen.

Also, there is a bit of a let-down for those customers who have preferred the 'S' iPhone releases.. the 4S and 5S have probably been Apple's best iPhones, but so far it is looking like the 6S doesn't make the leap over the 6 to justify inclusion in that little group.
I think there are people like me, who are sticking with their 5S, as they don't like the 6 series form factor, antenna lines, and sticking out camera!

Agree. I dislike the 6 form factor and size.

A shame Apple have deserted those of us who want to phone sized phone!

I'm still upgrading from my 5 though, as my wife wants it!

To be honest I was actually going to ask people what their favourite phone has been. I think mine has to be the 3G as it really was revolutionary. 4 was pretty good great screen and faster. 5 was horrible, the battery was such a pain I really wanted to leave apple because of it. 6+ has been so good. Great screen, amazing battery, very fast. Biggest annoyance is the RAM, having only 1GB means that it constantly has to reload tabs and apps that I have left for only a few seconds.

I think the best looking iPhone has been the gold 5S but to me I like the look of the 6 and 6+ even with the antenna bands and protruding camera. If you feel happy with your 5S then great. But I do think the bigger screen is a game changer. Thanks Samsung for taking the gamble.

Why aren't many people going for carrier plans?

Because its cheaper the plans are crazy.

Ive just phoned up EE, for the plan I'm on its going to cost an extra £5 a month and ill have to pay £170 for the phone.

Its cheaper to offset the price with my 6 then in November change to the same plan on a sim only plan for £28 a month.

Im shocked at the tariffs, i know the 6 was high when that came out but the 6s tariffs are ludicrous

Why aren't many people going for carrier plans?

I've got a £12pm with Three that gives me unlimited data. No way I'm losing that.

I'm only paying £840 over a year and only upgrade every couple of years, so it's way cheaper.

Plus Three usually send me an email offering the new iPad at a lower price, so I tend to refresh the contract on that and keep the phone sim only.

Welcome to the light side. Or is that the dark side. :)

Ha ha, thanks.... I have always, and always will like both.... But I do feel that every manufacturer that makes android devices has had a very poor year

I ordered the space grey from Vodafone this morning then decided to change my mind after 4 hours so i tried changing but they wouldn't do it as it was past the time frame or something so they cancelled it for me , it takes 72 hours... in the end i had to get someone else to take the contract out for me for the Rose gold one but hey it is what it is :)

Now its credit check time for that person it can take up to 24 hours i was told what a pain..

Now.. how long until I can cancel my order..?? i know it says in a few hours but it’s been a few hours already
