I'm running iOS 11 PB5 - installed it yesterday, and I must admit, everytime I look at my phone this morning I see 4G where i'd normally see 3G so fingers crossed this is fixed in iOS11

Hi everyone

I have been following this discussion since day one.

I purchased the iPhone 7, on 3 since the day of release.

Have had problems on and off. No proper fixes I can see yet.

3 mobile now have given me £6 off my monthly bill for the rest of my contract with them.

Disappointed with Apple.

I think this comes down to the Intel chip and it not being configured properly with 3.

This article pretty much sums up the issues with it.

https://9to5mac.com/2016/10/20/iphone-7-qualcomm-intel-modem-cellular-performance/

If you do not have time to read it all, I have pasted the conclusion below.

Conclusion

After testing, the conclusion is that the iPhone 7 hardware with the Qualcomm-powered modem has a significant cellular modem performance edge over the Intel variant.

As to why Apple has sourced two baseband suppliers after years of using Qualcomm hardware exclusively, it likely has much to do with broadening its supply chain. In this case, however, it looks like supply chain diversification has resulted in a measurable performance difference between the two models in a lab-controlled environment.

Of course, controlled tests differ from real world usage and scenarios, but these findings are nonetheless interesting. I tend not to read too much into this data, because Apple has no-doubt tested both models, and found that each performed satisfactorily in real world usage.

Also worth noting is that the iPhone 7 with the Qualcomm modem is only being sold in China, Japan and in the United States, which means that Apple deemed the Intel version to be good enough for every other territory.

That said, if you’re buying an iPhone 7 for full price in one of the aforementioned territories, then I highly recommend going with the Verizon/Sprint/SIM-free version. Not only does this version seem to perform better from a cellular modem perspective, but it’s also capable of working with most cellular carriers in the US and abroad.

I hope IOS11 will fix this in someway?

When receiving a call why does it always divert to 3G? When 3 mobile now have 4G super voice? This is meant to improve call quality?

I noticed it this morning on iOS 11. It looks like a bug to me.

This has been the case with me since having the phone. The voice and data option has been selected. But never get calls using 4G signal. 3 claim this should be the case. My area has strong 4G reception.

I have had problems the whole time I've owned my iPhone 7+ where every couple of days or so even though I was "connected" to 3G or 4G it didn't actually work and I had to switch airplane mode on and off again in order for it to load anything. I installed the final version of iOS 11 eight days ago using beta profile and the issue hasn't occurred for me yet.

Just an update, I’ve upgraded to the 8 plus and I’m having way better signal than with the 7 plus. I’m also getting a lot more 4G too.

My 7 plus would often show no service at work but with the 8 plus I get service constantly!

I think it may be because of the modem on the 7 plus. iOS 11 didn’t improve anything for me!

same got told, no issues what so ever... which department did you speak to ?
[doublepost=1539092382][/doublepost]I’m so fed up with Three and 4G, that I’ve decided to pay more and switch to EE.

It was bad on the iPhone 7, it is still bad on the iPhone X (I’ve had it for a year).

Everyone I know with and iPhone and Three is totally fed up.

we have ipad air 2, ipad pro 9.7, ipad pro 10.5, iphone SE, iphone 8 plus all on three with zero issues. Also huawei mate 9 and mate 10 pro on three.

samsung s7 edges on EE was right nightmare, 2 phones both crap. So bad EE agreed to end contract at no cost to us if we returned the handsets. Which we did.

Where are you based?

SW cornwall UK.

My issues (and my friends') have always been in the London area.

I bought an EE sim yesterday and I have not had any issues yet.

I didn't really want to leave Three as I was paying very little and made massive use of their free roaming, but I could see no point in staying with Three when 4G wasn't working.

I can agree with that but surprised issue where you are though.

Still few dead spots down here where no coverage by anyone due to hills/valleys etc.

Cornwall not known for being very flat!

The issue is not coverage per se. The phone shows coverage but the 4G connection becomes unusable or just stops working altogether.

is it network or device issue?
could you say try the same sim in another device?

or another network sim in same device if it's unlocked.

I have changed sim and it made no difference. As I said, I know of several people with the same problem. I had problems with the iPhone 7 and now with the iPhone X. Same for MOH's iPhone Xs.

The issue is a combination of Three/iPhone, probably related to the poor Intel modems.
