Yeah hopefully it's a bug. If you turn it on, it stays on, but if you dare to press the 'zoom out' button it turns off and does not turn back on when you zoom back in, or switch modes and back, or exit and re-enter the camera app - you have to turn both back on yourself.
It's defo a bug will put in a feedback to apple. I know it's not a beta version but at least it's logged. If you change the zoom to disable centre stage and come out the camera app and go back in as you say it's still off. however if you kill the camera app and reopen it fresh it's back on by default. So its definitely a bug.

mine showing the same.

Tracking shows package at delivery location and then package at depot, both at the same time, guessing driver ended shift then.
DHL now removed those 2 entries and replaced with shipment back at delivery depot at 11pm and expected delivery date being yesterday :)

I'm not sure why but I had it in my head it was meant to default to on when you opened the camera app. I'm sure I seen that somewhere but I can't remember where.
It's a setting, no? - you can have either camera use last state, or return to default state

Click gate is a thing on 17 pros. You get a click sound when opening camera app and it’s not the lens. Probs haptic engine.

Automatically zoom or rotate the frame with Center Stage for photos

On iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air, the camera frame can automatically zoom and rotate when faces are detected in a group selfie.
Tip: For best results, make sure everyone is looking at the camera and within 10 feet of it.
  1. Open Camera
    71ce3044f246f5f1f828b819f1c395b6.png
    on your iPhone.
  2. Tap
    the Camera Chooser Back-Facing button
to switch to the front-facing camera.
  3. To make adjustments, tap
the Chrome Auto Smart Framing Label On Off button
, then turn the following on or off:
    • Auto Zoom: Automatically expands the frame when a face is detected at the edge of the frame.
    • Auto Rotate: Automatically rotates the frame to landscape to accommodate more people in the frame.
  4. Tap the Shutter button, press either volume button, or click the Camera Control to take the selfie.
When you first use Center Stage for photos, Auto Zoom is on and Auto Rotate is off. Changes you make to these settings are saved.
Note: If you tap
the Selfie Zoom Zoomed In button
or
the Selfie Rotate button
to manually zoom or rotate the frame, the Center Stage settings you selected turn off. To turn them back on, repeat the steps above.

Don't know if this helps (or not?)

Mine's due for delivery today between 16:15-17:15pm 🙂

Efficient pickup at Apple Birmingham. At 0845 must be 50+ waiting outside for store opening, maybe 70+ by 0900. Got inside sent to queue up and staff were proactively pulling people out the queue with no reservations.

I was at the back of the queue at 9 when they opened. I walked out at 0905 with my pick-up, can’t moan at that. Just an hour train ride home now before I can set up! 😁

The “gate” thing died about 5y ago FYI. If this does actually happen it’s a bug, it’ll get fixed in 26.1 if not before.

Literally every product I’ve had for over a decade has done it or when in an Apple store and they are charging has done it. So either they are all defective or it’s just like that or maybe I’m just a very conductive person 🤣
same here, more than a decade too.
I find it odd that someone has never had it happen 😂 I think most people might not notice because it doesn't do it if you're gripping, it does it if you're maybe using only one finger to touch a surface.
My MacBook Pro 2012, the MacBook pro before it, my surface book pro (1st gen), even two work laptops in recent years. And several iPhones, a Samsung Galaxy S, though can't remember if my OnePlus does it.
All across various cables and power adapters.

I've not noticed if my 17 Pro Max does it on the frame yet, will plug in soon and try whilst phone is on the desk.

This screen thing is a new one for me though, don't recall hearing it on previous phones. Maybe it's just because of how quiet the room was at the time, though I'm sure I've had it that quiet before.

That many queuing today, really? Surprised!

Just received the Air MagSafe Battery and surprised how thin it is. Set them both to dual-charge now to 100%.

Really looking forward to seeing how this works in daily use. Plan is to have the MagSafe battery in my jacket pocket or bag and just clip it on when the battery hits the red.

like many others in NI I have had a disaster with DHL. Got the message on DHL that it was handed to a 3rd party so no tracking. Had to nip out for half an hour and of course the taxi with the phone came when I was out. Spoke to them through my doorbell but wouldn’t leave it. Have left a card to reschedule but because it’s marked as delivered on DHL I can’t reschedule delivery. It also shows as delivered on my order with apple. Apple are telling me it must be delivered and to take it up with DHL. Last time I will be ordering direct with Apple

Ive placed a new order as well. One of the Oranges I received yesterday had QC issues. I returned it in my local store yesterday. Unfortunately they had no stock to offer.
