Is there a special option to collect from store when preordering? I've never seen that as an option before.

I can't remember to be honest but I think I just selected it instead of having it posted to me. I obviously needed to collect from a shop as I wanted to join the upgrade program (which can only be done instore).

I didn't know you could do that, something I'll definitely look into next Friday. Did anyone question you at the Apple Store when you asked to join the upgrade program?

When you say did they question me the answer would be no, other than the required details and i.d (Drivers License) to enable them to perform the credit check to enroll me in the program.

Hope this helps,

Andy

Did you do the order through the Apple Store app or on the website?

You can order through either although for preorder day and for a while after, it's via a separate page than the usual preordering. It's all a bit manic on preorder day so would suggest keeping an eye out on MR forum and twitter.

Does anyone remember how payments worked when upgrading? The situation I'm in right now is this...
my monthly payment is due on the 18th. If i technically don't have the new phone until the 22nd, (like rumors say) then i will have just paid my 13th month literally 4 days before the new phone is purchased. I tried calling apple and they weren't sure and told me to call Citizen's One, but Citizen's One said to call apple.

Would i be pro-rated the remaining balance of the 13th month that technically went unused, or given a credit towards the next (new) phone?

I just checked in my local store and the same story. Reserve for in-store pickup, go in, hand your phone back (no accessories), pay the up-front and sign up for a new finance deal.

I asked about paying off the finance instead of handing back the phone (if you are selling on or envirofone etc) but the Apple chap said it gets complicated then as you have to pay off the finance etc. Sounded like a ball ache.

How does paying off the finance cause an issue - the finance agreement is ended and in any case, you sign a new agreement whether you upgrade or pay off the finance and get a new contract.

I think because you have to do that with Barclays directly .... it's not something Apple can process on the day. So probably delays

Doh yes! So if you are going to pay it off, best do so a few days beforehand to give it time to filter through and of course buy as a non-upgrader.

Can someone detail how to actually reserve a phone for pickup in store via the app? I've never done it before.
[doublepost=1505161296][/doublepost]For example in below screenshot, it says delivers on Wednesday or pickup from store. But how do I chose to pick it up? As it's just waiting for payment at the bottom.

If you proceed to the next screen by choosing a payment option you get the option. Don’t worry you won’t get charged

Ah fantastic thanks! And will this be the same for a brand new launch product? Just select pickup in store and then nearer the launch time we'll know if we can pick up on launch day or not?

It will indeed. That’s the approach I took with an iPhone 7 last year

Last year I bought the phone outright, got it delivered, and then went back to the store, got it refunded and switched over to the IUP. Was the only way to do it for the JB as the store never had stock.

Looking forward to trying to reserve one for pickup this time round and doing the upgrade.

I think I may go iUP this year (have always bought my iPhones outright at launch).

I can't quite get my head round the order process though...

Last year I reserved one to pick up I store. I like you used to buy my iPhones outright but when they asked me how I was going to pay for it I asked about the iUP and took it there and then.

I’ve been to the Apple store on Regent’s St this afternoon and they have no idea how it’ll work this year and said that there might be an option on the app but until later we won’t know.

So there's now an option to reserve your iphone via the upgrade eligibility section of the Apple Store app. When I go through that and choose iPhone 8 it says pickup in store on 30/9. When I do the same configuration iPhone 8 for normal new outright purchase it says pickup in store on 22/9.....

I did want the iPhone X but the upgrade programme has effectively scuppered that idea. I am not paying an extra two months of payments, which realistically could be several more months of payments before it is actually available for collection, to then hand over my 128gb 7 Plus out of pocket of approx £100 plus.

As I am only using 60GB on my current phone I pre ordered the 64GB 8Plus and its coming in cheaper than the current price plan for my 7plus for pick up on the 22nd.

Going to wait until next year for the 2nd Gen OLED as chances are many people will not get the X until next year anyway !

Does anyone know if the £54 cost of the 256gb X includes AppleCare plus? Last year you had to have it. I currently pay £49 for my 7+ 256. The X would be only £5 more but AppleCare plus included?

Thanks for clarifying.

Did they say that the app would be updated to potentially reserve one on there? The app seems to fare better when ordering anything on day one.

Apologies for all the questions - Apple should really be a bit more upfront regarding this.

The app didn’t fare better last year, website was online at 8.01 but the app didn’t come live until 8.04.
By the time I could get my details in my iPhone 7 Plus jet black was well out on delivery.
I was not happy, I later changed my order to Matt black and got my new phone 10 days after launch.
I’m hoping we can use the upgrade program on the website as well, I’ll Get the wife on one and me on the other!

I did this also

The information above the table you took the screenshot of says it doesn't include AppleCare+:

Isn’t iPhone payments different to the iPhone upgrade program?
