Vodafone user here. Ran speed tests on my iPhone 8 Plus just before upgrading to XS MAX and after and saw no difference 36 Mbps down / 17 Mbps up. Calls work fine.

However my Max has the chargegate issues and Wi-fi issues where it will simply not lock onto the faster 5ghz Wi-Fi signals. It wants to use the slower 2.4ghz all the time.

My Max also has hard crashed (black screen and reboot) twice when using my AirPods & soundcloud and just walking down the road with the phone in my pocket.
Have you tried to reset the network settings. I was only getting about 100 mbps on my home WiFi when I first set up my max. Not an issue as it didn’t effect streaming but I reset network settings and now I’m getting 200+ mbps which I was getting on my old X.

Thanks - yes that was the first thing I tried. Unfortunately it didn't help. I notice the same "not wanting to use 5g" at my office network as well... so it's not isolated to my home network.

I was able to semi-fix the issue by doing some custom band steering tweaks on my home network.. but the issue is still there on other networks.

EE fine for me, travel a bit around the North West. First couple of days I saw the reception bar pulsing a few times (never seen that before), but a carrier update appeared and it’s been fine since.

At home, I get over 200Mbps.

I have Virgin BB, but have their crappy router in modem mode, connected to an Apple Time Capsule.

Even upstairs, at the opposite end of the house, I get over 100Mbps.

I use 5Ghz.

I used to connect like that. Updated to the latest super hub, and do find it drops on occasion (on all devices!). Wonder if I should get a separate router again.

I have an old one here. Can’t remember why I stopped using it.
Get it deployed ASAP. ;)

My LTE speed is faster in my max than it was on my x and it’s the same speeds on my hone WiFi as it was before.
My test at work was

122MB download xs max
105Mb download on my x

On WiFi looking at a good 5-10 Mb better on my max...

So good enough for me. Signal wise it’s one bar at home but that was the same on my x. Just the area I’m in I guess.

Vodafone network is all fine using my XS Max.

Speed test check of my 4G signal in central London:

170mbps download speed
47.7mpbs upload speed

Happy with that.

Xs Max on O2.

Both my Xs Max and my wife’s iPhone 8 shows 3/4 bars 4G and 2/3 Wifi, the speed results are virtually the same!

I sent my Xs max back, LTE was worse for me on EE. 1 bar vs 3 bars on my X from the same spot in the house. 7mb download vs 27 on the x across a few tests. Sticking with the x for another year.

I was getting worried seeing all these Max units on Vodafone with 100+ Mbit/s tests so I ran one today in Twickenham...

192 Mbit/s down
16.8 Mbit/s up

Faster than my iPhone 8+ And better coverage on train into London.

I’m only about 20 mins from you... ;)

I am having big problems with O2 reception on my Xs Max it keeps dropping if I go out of my area.
Just checked my 4G speed and getting less than 2mbps used to get over 40 with my 8 +

WiFi is great no problems at all with that.

Think I will go to my local O2 shop tomorrow to see if they can do anything if not it will have to be back to Apple.

It’s a shame i love everything else about the phone.

Could this be the issue then???? Im on O2 and same experience, same spot in house and nobody can hear me compared to no issues on the X

No issues with wifi, just mobile signal

FULL SIGNAL ON THREE.

Yet no one can hear me on the line, saying its very poor quality! GRR

On Three with an Xs. Took my case off earlier on while just around my house for a few phone calls.

One call i was on hold to a call centre so i put it on speakerphone while i waited, then when i actually got through to someone i went to pick up the phone and a few seconds later a call failure happened. Called back, was put on hold again so went into speakerphone mode again, then when i finally got connected i went to pick the phone up and got disconnected again.

Then, just a few minutes ago. I received a call from my sister and after a few seconds of holding it in my hand against my ear i got the call failure message appear and it cut out. Tried again several times and i kept cutting out after only a few seconds.

I put my phone case back on, and called my sister again. This time call didn't cut out after a few seconds, and everything was back to normal.

I've had the Xs for 2 weeks tomorrow and always had a case on it so never had any problems. This afternoon i was just trying it out case-less (but only around my house though) and started getting these problems.

Anyway, i have until tomorrow to return my Xs and cancel my new contract, so i'm just going to go ahead and return it.

There's something not quite right with it without a case on it, and even though i tend to always use a case anyway, i don't want a gimped phone that only works if a certain criteria is met.

I might just wait for the Xr, or a i may rinse another year out of my 6s Plus.

Don’t think so.

Major network outage on O2 today
Where?

Can anyone else in Europe (the UK seems to be fine so far) let us know whether they are facing the lte wifi signal issue?

I returned my Xs because wifi issue, connecting and disconnecting, that with 2.4GHz. Almost impossible to connect to 5GHz unless you were very close to the router.

I will wait an see if problems get fixed.
