Haha yes thank you - I learned the hard way :(
You were pretty spot on though! Shipping estimate was for Tuesday but once it reached UPS in Tamworth it fell back to Monday, so woop for tomorrow!

Also I had a question so I can avoid further disappointment and waiting - when you get some new phones/laptops etc, they advise not to use the product for 24~ hours, you should just charge it.
I know that's not mandatory ANYWAY, but I'd prefer to do everything by the book with this laptop, etc. Is this one of *those* laptops?

No, not for lithium-ion batteries (i.e the one in your rMBP). I always let it charge to full before switching on. I think I read on Apple's website they recommend that, too.

I got a £40 refund to my card, as they were 2 days later than the estimate.
Hi,

I am wondering how you went about doing this? My estimate was for today, however UPS have now said that it will be delivered tomorrow (21st). What I find truly unacceptable is that someone else on this forum whos rMBP was on the same flight as mine arrived on the 17th!

Another thing, why do apple use "UPS standard" which has taken mine 5 days to ship from china to pass through LHR customs and then 6 days to ship from LHR to Scotland!!! This is extremely poor for a 2k laptop....

Just like defects, shipping time has nothing to do with the price of the product. I don't understand the logic.

Ring the customer service number on apples site, tell them your order number and that it's over it's estimated delivery date. Mine was 2 days late and I was offered £50 to spend on apple.com or £40 refund.

I ordered the non retina 15" MBP with an upgrade. Surprised that the delivery estimate is nearly two weeks (even with the upgrade and student gift card). Do they all come from over seas when ordered? Thought Apple would at least process orders quicker, particularly when they're in stock!

I'm now tracking my Replacement rMBP using UPS. My original order didn't allow this, but because Apple are shipping it "faster" UPS are using "World Ease standard shipping". World Ease is so that a whole lot of items can be cleared through customs at once, rather than individually. (I think this is the different of exp.o.expiditors.com do, hence faster deliverey)

I'm astounded by how many destination this thing goes. (I doubt each stop is for diesel)

Firstly Shanghai, China
Secondly: Incheon, Republic of Korea
Thirdly: Almaty, Kazakhstan
Fourthly: Warsaw, Poland

Then I can only assume it will be on destination to the UK.

All of these events including the original billing happened in 24 hours/ (although time zones probably make it more than 20th - 21st August)

Do you think this is "nothing to do with Apple's own supply chain", but is just logistical logic by UPS. That is, making several stops to several countries to collect more packages? I had the imagination that on one UPS plane was loaded with just Apple products from one Apple (Foxconn) Factory...

Anyway, it's on schedule to be delivered to me by Thursday 23rd - exactly 8 days after Apple ordered the replacement!

I am about to order a MacBook Pro with Retina, 2.3GHz, 16GB and 256 SSD.

Are you provided with a specific day in which you'll receive the laptop (or know within 24 hours)? Can they deliver to an Apple store for someone to collect?

Yes but you won't find out the date until it's near you... Depending on which shipping info you receive, you may know 4 days beforehand (like I did). But my original order, I knew 2 days beforehand.

As far as I know, you can't collect from Apple as it's coming directly from china. (and takes 3 days to build)

Just in case it helps anyone looking to figure out how long deliveries might take at the moment, I ordered my 2.6/16/512 rMBP (plus a couple of accessories) on Monday 13th AM, and it arrived late afternoon today, so it took 7 working days in total.

The original estimated date I was given was tues 28th / Wed 29th, however that dropped to Friday 24th when it was first shipped. Did not get much in the way of updates from expo (it appeared to be stuck in customs for several days), and finally got my UPS tracking info this morning, at which point my estimated delivery date was brought forward 2 days to today! (nothing like short notice....)

I've just received my replacement and it's perfect! Straight away the screen seems brighter. Only after setting my preferences etc. up that I checked and it's a LG screen.

I guess some are good, some are not so good... I may look at a cooler profile, just because I prefer that, but in terms of brightness, even screen colour, it's great!

AND Apple just released 10.8.1... Perfect timing.

That's really bizarre. I've just tried ordering a MacBook online and it said my payment details were incorrect. Rang them up and he tried twice to no avail. I have no idea what's wrong here? The funds are in the account, payment details correct - very weird!

Try contacting bank instead. it may be fraud flagged as suspicious.

Ring you bank, I tried to pay with a visa debit card and I couldn't because theres a limit on them(I never knew) so that stopped me from paying had to do a slow ass bank transfer.

Ah, I had that problem. Turned out that the name on my account didn't match the name on my card exactly

My middle initial appears on my card, but the details on my Apple account only have my first and last names - there's no box for a middle initial. I fixed it by appending my initial to my first name, then it went through fine.

I've never had that problem before on the Apple/App/Mac App/iTunes stores so I guess it was due to the high value that they do a full check.

Hi there

Ive asked for a replacement - retina macbook pro faulty crackling, popping speakers-. How does the replacement work ? Will I get the replacement laptop at the same time ? Anyway TNT is arranging the ship now.

I think only business customers get the replacement before they send it out. Yo'll have to wait until they confirm reciept then send you a new one.

Good (Physical) shop in London (Cheaper than AppleStore)?

Hi!

I haven't read the whole thread so sorry if someone may have already answered that.

My question is:

Where in London can I buy Macbook Pro Retina (15") cheaper than at Applestore? I don't live in the UK, so I can claim VAT back, so I need to go to a physical store which can provide me with the form to get the VAT back.

Any suggestion? Please.

Cheers

You won't find anyone who sells a new rMBP less than Apples normal retail price, as it is against Apple's reseller conditions. Apple stores can provide you with the documents you need to be able to reclaim the VAT.

That's not true... I don't live in the UK but here in Canada Best Buy, Futureshop and Staples have Mac sales all the time.. so does Amazon. Am I missing something?

Yep you don't live in the UK :) Occasionally you will see Mac's discounted in the UK, but these are normally prior generation stock. I can't remember the last time I saw someone selling a Mac cheaper than Apple in the UK.

Actually if you are happy with the prior generation Retina MacBook Pro's you may find a reseller that will have a discounted one for sale. The recent spec bump was pretty minor.

You aren't looking in the right places then, Ebuyer and a few other stores regularly have current Gen devices for slightly cheaper prices. It's hardly worth bothering though for the small savings you will get, you might as well shop directly and get better after sales support in the event of a problem.

No use to jfbaro though as they are online stores only.

Time to awkenn this thread...

so the 8GB/256Gb 13" is £1074 in the Edu store. Sorted. Covent Garden. Tomorrow after lectures. Might pop into shakeshack for a cheeky burger as well.

god save the queen!
