N-stocks: Is your screen LG or Samsung? You should definitely demand that you keep your current laptop until a new one is made for you. You could ask for it to go to the apple store and then just swap in a couple of weeks. Seems fair to me.

----------

Also, the screen does't seem that bright to me either. Not as bright as my 2009 imac.

I've emailed the Apple rep images and asked here about when will it be built in relation to having the damaged one collected...

How do I find out the screen manufacturer? What brand is yours?

----------

Are you 100% positive these are actual scratches? Back in March when I bought my iPad, there were what genuinely looked like scratches on the back, even felt like it to the touch. I couldn't remove them... Initially. With a little saliva, and rubbing much harder, they started to peel off. It was actually dried up glue. The aluminum was in fact perfect. This happened twice in a row at the store, I figured it out the second time. Give it a try if you haven't already.

Yep, definitely scratches. I will upload them on here soon. I've tried iKlear and nothing works for the marks either, which is more like a scuff...

Type this into Terminal:

ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

Well...... I originally thought mine was LG but now think it's Samsung, due to different advice given out online! My code is LSN154YL01001. Is that Samsung or LG, anyone????

----------

After a bit more searching, I am pretty confident I have a Samsung screen. Awesome!

LP = LG, LSN = Samsung.

Mine is: LP154WT1-SJA1
So it's an LG I guess?

Just received a reply from apple. The Rep said that they are processing a new order and I have received a new order reference. (like you would if you just bought one) It says "shipped" and the order Ref is the same but I was told to ignore this...

It's showing delivery as 29-31 August, however the Rep said ignore that as I'm "at the front of the que and it will ship much sooner".

Once I receive it and everything is good, I will also receive the £50 gesture...

I just hope it's a good screen because scratch or no scratch, I would no be keeping this one! It's very dull... compared to my previous 2011 17" it's like 5 bars down on the brightness. Has anyone changed their profile so it's brighter? Is the possible because last time I changed mine (2010) it just changed the colour temperature.

Now time to sell this EDU giftcard on the marketplace!

EDIT: 1920 x 1200 resolution is insane! In a good way but I think 1680 x 1050 will be better.

I didn't realise you could change resolutions. Have just tried it - wow! I like 1680x1050.

Mine has just come and I am in love. It's my first Mac so I'm just playing around at the moment. No issues that I can see but I'm certainly not going to go looking for them as I will get paranoid. Samsung screen.

I know, I find myself visiting Apple's website to see what Mountain Lion can do as I forgot! (I thought they made changed to dashboard but I don't see any) The biggest text resolution seems quite blurry but I'm not going to use that... It just seem when you look at screenshots, the images seems much more detailed. Even now on macrumors, things seem slightly blurred. I guess macrumors isn't retina ready?

Great! I'm pleased for you :). Did you change the processor or anything? Which model do you have? I find it strange how I have an LG and 2 other people have samsung... when they all shipped the same day.

No it's the base model... who knows. Hope yours is sorted asap!

I bought my Mac with the NUS discount and I know that is eligible for 3 years warranty; it says so when you order. However, when I checked my warranty status online it only said one year (typical). Has anyone else got this? Is there an address I can email?

Image attached is the one you get when selecting Applecare through the education store. Note how next to the screwdriver it shows three years complimentary cover.

EDIT: Phoned up, apparently it won't show online for up to four months but anyone who ordered through the education store does indeed get three years repair cover :)

Yes mine says that too. It takes a while for it to update but you can also request Apple to change it if you some proof that you are eligible. I'd give it at least a week though...

Finally got mine, nothing missing and in perfect condition. Samsung screen also :) Very pleased!

Sorry to hear about problems other peeps are facing :(

She mentioned it but the system wasn't updating fast enough or something... Collection is 2-3days but I'm not sure they will start building it until it's collected... I have to say that I'm not even impressed with the screen colour/brightness :( It's a dullish warm colour. The clarity is excellent, it's certainly "retina"

Please can you post the photos of your scratch online? It would be interesting to see - mine came and it has a few scratches on the left of the trackpad which could only be seen in sharp light - I didn't risk changing it as everything else is perfect.

As with all things made partly by hand, there is a risk. But it's hardly visible so didn't want to risk it for a bigger issue on the next machine!

Sure, I posted them in a different thread but forgot to post in here.

This is the main damage, I won't bother with the others.

Oh, jeez. Sorry to see that. Hey, don't worry - you've got a new machine coming at least. Mine (attached) are hardly visible - only in sharp light!

I know, I just hope it's a good (brighter) screen too.

I'd probably just keep your unit, they seem quite light scratches. Hows the other aspects? Everything good?

Let me know if you figure out any more cool tricks! :)

Yeah, they're really minor. That is me being very picky - I imagine I could find that on nearly any machine!

Loving it at the moment.

God this is doing my head in. Apple said the parcel was in transit to customer around midday, yet exp.o has only just recently updated to show it was out for delivery at 3:06pm, despite release from customs at 10am. So one of them is full of ****; I vote Apple. Every single time I think progress is occurring, it's just a bloody mirage.
