Was waiting for new iMac update to buy my first mac but pull the trigger and I am buying the 15" MBP base for my first ever mac on Friday . Pumped is an understatement ha any tips? Anyone else using one ? Thoughts and opinions on it , please .

So far ... a perfect machine. Amazing screen, lovely keyboard, super quick, light and thin. Only thing I could add to it would be some £15,000 speakers but then I am a bit picky when it comes to sound. All in all, get one!
Now I'm told it was delivered to the consignee at 5:27pm. Can someone tell me for reference what time theirs was delivered to the cosignee?
What point is yours at? I have a feeling mine has missed the schedule that would have it delivered tomorrow by a few hours, forcing it to Friday. I wish they'd get out of the goddam stone age and update status as they happen, not many hours later..
Mine was released at the same time as yours. Apple have still to say who the courier is... My estimated delivery is the 20th. It will be shocking if it does arrive on the 20th as that would mean it has taken 5 days from China to LHR and 5 days from LHR to Aberdeen. So is your estimated delivery tomorrow? I'm sure it could still deliver for tomorrow as they do work overnight!
My estimate is on or before 17th (Friday). I don't know how many people's arrived before their estimate. The annoying thing is it jumps on to the next step and I'm all like "WOO YEAH PROGRESS" then it'll sit there for absolutely ages doing nothing, like sitting in customs for 2 days.
I also can't believe Americans get the option of paying $15 for expedited delivery and are receiving them in 3-4 days!
All UPS shows so far is "origin scan" at 0:23 this morning at tamworth, and says its "in transit". Does UPS update their status' slowly or is nothing really happening? It would be odd that it is in transit since tamworth is the facility closest to me so it shouldnt be moving anywhere. UPS doesnt show estimated delivery time either

When did apple give you the UPS code, yours went through merging very fast! Well done on Bristol, that was my backup choice. Which course are you gong for?
Don't know sometime during the night I imagine, I saw it when I got up at 5:30 this morning. There's still zero progress with UPS, and still apparently in transit. Seems it'll just mooch around all day and deliver tomorrow.

Oh I have a degree already (biology) and blagged a first so my offer to med school is unconditional, which takes off the pressure a bit. Some poor buggers are still writing up their PhDs! It's a graduate-entry course.

It's fantastic! The pixel density makes everything look perfectly clear, although it doesn't make other displays look disgusting from a normal distance like loads of people claim (my 1280x800 13" still looks OK). The whole thin, light, big screened and powerful package is just magnificent.
There's a chance that they just aren't updating it and it is out for delivery. The only thing UPS tracking said origin scan at 0:24, until a few minutes ago when it finally says updated, so they are definitely not great at keeping up to date. Hold out for it, but you'll definitely get it tomorrow at the latest I'm sure!

I got mine last week, loving it. I've changed the HD to a Momentum 750g and added 16gb of memory and its a flying machine. Oh and I went for the higher res screen as well.
Love it, far better for me than an iMac in the way I'm going to use it so very happy with my decision.
I have to say, from somebody who's been used to the 13" MBP speakers, these ones are outrageously beautiful to experience!

Yeah they're not bad but they are still laptop speakers. Obviously there have to be limitations somewhere but I can't wait for the day that 1" laptop speaker cones can pump out sounds like a Linn sound system.

Have you got a Linn sound system? My grandad had this incredible and expensive system from some Yorkshire company that handmakes them, can't remember the name.
Make macbooks that run on cold fusion. There you go, problem sorted.
I wish I had a Linn system. They cost a bomb. My parents have a dope system which I appreciate when I come home. I make do with a half-decent system, with a KEF subwoofer.

I'm typing this on my new 13" MacBook Pro, which arrived yesterday; a replacement for my old 2007 MBP which has gone to the big Apple Store in the Sky.
I got a free upgrade to Mountain Lion which I downloaded from the AppStore and installed this morning; install took about an hour, and I just left it going and came back and it was done.
Loving the unibody design and the battery life!

You were pretty spot on though! Shipping estimate was for Tuesday but once it reached UPS in Tamworth it fell back to Monday, so woop for tomorrow!
Also I had a question so I can avoid further disappointment and waiting - when you get some new phones/laptops etc, they advise not to use the product for 24~ hours, you should just charge it.
I know that's not mandatory ANYWAY, but I'd prefer to do everything by the book with this laptop, etc. Is this one of *those* laptops?
I haven't heard that advice for many years. Battery technology has moved on a lot, especially MacBook batteries. You're fine to charge and use it however you like.
