It will be interesting to see what happens with the data service if the majority of people go over the 200Mb in the first month. Actually, maybe they're expecting that to happen for the first few months with the novelty factor, so it might take longer than that for them to make a statement on average usage.

It's annoyingly ambiguous but I can't see how they'd communicate between the two companies in order to add up the cumulative data downloaded via the two different limited methods in order to calculate whether you'd reached your limit.
!

i doubt they will communicate in this way. the 200MB limit is just for o2. and whatever the fair use policy is for the cloud is totally separate.

they only explained it in the weird joint way to justify matthew key having said at the launch that 1,400 pages a day would break the fair use policy. he should have just said that there was a 200MB fair use policy for EDGE but i guess he wanted to spin it in a positive way.

I think anyone willing to shell out £35 a month for 200 mins, 200 texts and 200Mb of data needs their head looking at. And after raping you with that for eighteen months they also expect you to buy the hardware? No thanks.

As good as the iPhone is it's not good enough to make me bend over and take it in the arse from O2 and Apple. :p

Ah mate that cracked me up!

Sad but true though. Like someone said previously, T-Mobile offers 1GB of monthly allowance so why don't you just buy one from eBay from France, Sim free and join T-Mobile or something. Trading standards seriously need to get involved...

I notice you own a PS3 - Sony did some raping of their own when they released that at £425 in March. I know, I bought one too.

Google Maps will be a big issue. I have the Google Maps application for my Windows Media 5 phone... each time I use it, it uses well over 512kb (0.5mb) - and that's just the basic pulling of maps. I'd hate to see that when it's GPS tracking.

:(

im using my iphone on 3 i get a 2gb allowance a month for jus £5 it runs off oranges edge network which is the best edge network around - o2 arent even covered everywhere yet so its gonna be a pretty crap deal all of you but oh well if you want to waste £35 a month on a crappy tariff! im happy with my phone on pay n go ! :-D

i thought three SIMs would only work in a 3G phone and that three's data only works over threes network?

Three have an EDGE network??? Orange have an EDGE network!? news to me.

I'd love to know more bout the data rates! Is it exclusively on contract or PAYG too? 2GB limit you say for £5 a month!? I'd be reluctant to go with Three but with prices like that it would be mad not to consider...

I established that now, I was just going through the motions of transcribing my thoughts of surprise to words :D

I'm gonna investigate Three's data plan me thinks.

Yeah so I've heard from everyone. You get routed to India but thats pretty standard nowadays. But to be honest, I am a cheapskate so it may not stop me yet...

Its not just that mate, I had a nokia E61 and the network would drop calls ALL THE TIME I maybe got through 1 call in 4 without a hiccup.

I complained and I complained and I complained some more nothing got done, they offered to look at the handset (even though when I used an older 3 handset the ****** network would still drop calls). They just wouldnt listen. I eventually got a lawyer involved and got out of the contract 3 months early as they were not providing the service set out in the contract - therefore breach of contract. I had the lawyer instruct them not to contact me with any offers or deals on my number (transferred my number to orange) and I STILL GOT PHONECALLS ABOUT MY ACCOUNT!! They kept pestering me for weeks until I had yet another letter sent out to them.

No, safe to say that no matter what handset comes out on 3, I will NEVER go back.

Another possibility is to complain to the Advertising Standards Authority. As I understand it, however, the adverts won't start for another week or so.

When O2 start running them they are bound to be claiming 'unlimited data' whilst hiding the fair usage limits in very small print.

http://www.asa.org.uk/asa/how_to_complain/complaints_form/

Another complaint submitted. I cannot believe the ******** O2 are trying on this one... They should state clearly that it is 200MB LIMIT, not UNLIMITED.

Completely misleading...

Damn straight! I've complained and hopefully everyone else will.

So please guys get complaining now! :D

Indeed, although I'm not so bad as I bought mine with Resistance, Motorstorm and a Blu-Ray movie for £425. The movie was Click however, eugh.

I do feel bad for launch day buyers, they got completely screwed over. When MS did something similar with the original Xbox they gave out free games and controllers to those who bought on launch, I think Sony should have done this.

Not sure why people are bothering to complain about the supposed small print. Go to the O2 website and choose Tariffs. All the iPhone Tariffs are down as being unlimited but with an asterisk after them which says "fair usage policy applies".

Given what ISPs are allowed to get away with under this sort of thing, I don't see why O2 will be pulled up about it.

Has anyone contacted O2 to see what they are saying about the 200Mb limit?

I think the main problem is that the iPhone is touted as a 'revolutionary internet communication device' and with things like google maps, and youtube - the data limit can be used pretty quickly.

Plus the fact that other mobile companies have a much higher 'fair usage policy' it just seems daft that something as revolutionary as the iPhone gets stuck with an old school tariff which belongs to 2001 or something!
