Not sure why people are bothering to complain about the supposed small print. Go to the O2 website and choose Tariffs. All the iPhone Tariffs are down as being unlimited but with an asterisk after them which says "fair usage policy applies".

I'm complaining because 200MB is by no means "fair usage". It's barely "normal". Usually, fair usage has a limitation which is above and beyond "normal" use, and hints more at "abuse" of the service.

To say a service is unlimited, when normal usage from the majority will likely go over the 200MB fair usage is misleading, irresponsible, and down right tardy!

Yes, but they're not breaking any rules in their advertising. Write to O2 themselves, but I don't understand what the ASA can do about it.

Why don't we all wait and see what happens when the phone is released and people start using it. If everyone is going to use as much EDGE data as they seem to believe, the current limits just aren't going to be workable for O2 so they're going to have to address the problem somehow.

As for the "unlimited" claim in advertising, like I've said before, until the ISPs get taken to court over it, companies will continue to use it as they know they can caveat it with "subject to FUP" and get away with whatever the hell the like.

Yes, the stance right now might be that the media companies can happily always put a disclaimer, however that doesnt make it right... The more people complain to the agency that controls this, the more aware they are of the problem, the more likely they will decide "Hey, you know what - the public are being mislead, these needs to stop".

Writing to O2 will fall on deaf ears - they wont care.

So please guys get complaining now! :D

Done. This is getting damned annoying. I am trying to work out whether the iPhone is worth getting vs the new Nokia N95 8Gb (which O2 say they will not be carrying - wonder why) and it is so difficult when you face misleading claims.

If they can get away with 'Unlimited' they might as well say 'You are also guaranteed to win the lottery with this phone' as long as that little asterisk is there with a buried condition that states somewhere 'as long as you pick 6 correct numbers'!!

orange advertise their txts as being unlimited too but theres a fup of 3000 txts a month bit different i know but yeah

Yes, but 3000 texts is a huge amount isn't it? Equates to about 100 per day: Many times what I would use anyway! Same can't be said about 200MB of data.

Exactly... 200MB is rubbish, 2000MB would be more where I would draw a line for mobile data.
