Am checking it first in store. The thing about prices is how to compare usefully, as it is effectively double the size of the air, an iPhone 6 Plus is almost as much, and for those with long memories , the apple Newton 2000 was 599 and that was in 1996. Of course it is overpriced as was the first MBA, the defining option for me is can it do what I want it to and almost as well as my Mac, and is the pencil really going to be a game changer. Questions I still need to answer.

Fair point, I think the iPad Pro is going to be very useful but I don't think it's going to be for everyone. I also think the Apple Pencil will be the best stylus on the market! From what I've seen with online videos the Pencil is getting early praise, I think the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil is going to be a game changer when it's released.

Looks to me like the dilemma will be between the IPad pro or the new MacBook.
The prices are almost on parity once you add the keyboard. Adding the keyboard and surely the new super small laptop is a better bet although the screen won't be as good - there's the connectivity and much discussed file system.

People are really on about the Surface and Surface book. Good products they may well be, but the thought of going back to Winblows after 15 years on Macs makes me feel physically sick. Not sure any device is worth that.

Went to Apple Store today , Kingston. They have not heard yet when the Pro is coming in, nor the pricing, so who knows how long we will have to wait or if the Macworld prices are correct.

They wouldn't tell you even if they had. If the 11th is the date it goes on sale then Apple will probably announce something soon considering the 11th is a week today.

Well not even to announce the pricing on their website seems to say that they are not ready yet, so will wait patiently and see.

Personally, I find the proposed pricing quite ridiculous. For a relatively uninspiring product, I'm not prepared to pay notebook-level pricing. From my research, at the very least I'd expect a much more solid offering from Apple on the software front than what is being offered.

Clearly you don't need to buy one.

Can I put my 2p/2c in?

So I am keeping my iPad mini for the time being. That said I'm a gadget lover and I do change my devices frequently so... you bet there will be one in my future. I'm ok for now. With that out the way here is my point.

A Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ is released at a UK price of £599 A PHONE!

One Apple iPhone 6S+ is £620.

I find an iPad a way better device for everything. My phone is what I use when my iPad is not with me. Oh yeah and the call and text rarity.

Now you get it? A PHONE is not a netbook or a laptop yet most pay silly money for those. An iPad does most of what you need. For the rest there is for me at least my full size laptop and my Surface 3.

~fin~

I'm expecting the iPad Pro to top out around A$1500 so the sounds about right.

I'll wait for them to shrink it and call it the Air 3 next year. If the air 3 doesn't have decent specs including the improved 4 speaker system, I may consider the Pro, and the wheelbarrow needed to transport it.

I'll just use a bag. Instead of my MacBook when I want to use the iPad.

Well done for waiting though.

Clearly. I'd hazard a guess that applies to most people, actually.

P.S. A forum is for discussion. I offered my opinion to the OP, as requested. Clearly, you missed that and felt it necessary to needlessly attack my contribution. Perhaps refrain from doing so in the future.

I like all things Apple and may buy the Pro just to try it. I have an Air 2
which has been superb but I can't resist any new Apple product. Not a
major iPhone fan so am quite happy with my 5c with the Sports Watch.

Just bought an ATV4 and love it. My ATV3 was more than adequate before
but you have to move on!

Will put in a pre-order as soon as they kick off but at the moment not sure
if there will be any pre-orders. Two local Apple stores so no real problem.

Apple's product launches seem to be all a bit weird since the Arends woman joined!

In the same way 'most people' won't need a professional SLR to take some photos. Some people do. Just not most.

What is it about new Apple tech that makes people feel the need to take such a myopic viewpoint.

Everyone has their opinion but it's all largely irrelevant if you would buy one and I wouldn't.

If yo don't need it, don't buy it. Just because it's there, doesn't mean it HAS to be purchased. It's perfectly acceptable for you not to own every new Apple product that comes to market.

If 1000 people said they would get one would it change your mind if you weren't getting one (whatever that may be?) if it's not what you want then it's a simple concept not to purchase it.

IF this new iPad saves me time- and therefore I am freed up to work on other projects then it's worth it.

Does it happen with other tech?

I'll be watching and waiting for the real user reviews from YouTube etc and like others having a play with Demo Models.

The price is high which may shock some but many know  charge a premium price. Right or wrong is one's own opinion.

Personally I don't mind paying a premium for Apple devices, I believe Apple make quality and it's worth paying for.
For example you can buy £100 tablets from budget supermarkets like Aldi or Lidl here in the UK, BUT they are not well made and at that price I wouldn't expect them to be. The iPad is the best tablet device out there just like the Mac is the best computer out there, this is my opinion and not everyone will agree, but I believe you get what you pay for.

Well Samsung do actually make some good products, the S6 is a good phone but it is not much cheaper than the iPhone. I don't know how good the tablets are, problem with Apple hardware is that being well made it lasts a fair time and so we will not have to change so often. Even my iPad3 runs reasonably well (on ios8 anyway).

Not all the well made products by Apple have had good press, remember the Cube, well overpriced too but a beautiful design object with matching display but who wanted it when the iMacs had similar performance for half the cost. I hope the Pro doesn't go that way and becomes a viable forward looking device.

I don't know if most people are going to buy the iPad Pro like they do with the normal iPads (Air, Air 2) however i do think the iPad Pro has the potential to be a game changer, apps are going to be important and we are already seeing updates to apps before it's even come out. Adobe have updated their photoshop apps and even created new ones for the iPad Pro (as mentioned in the Apple keynote). I do think people are underestimating it at the moment, i also think price will be a factor in a lot of people deciding to not buy the pro and just get an iPad Air.

What is about some people that they can't accept any single opinion is as valid as another? There's an awful lot of words to your post that are really not required. Re-read the OP. The question posed was who is buying this at the proposed prices and wider thoughts on pricing. That's what I contributed.

There's nothing myopic about my original comment. As I said, and I'm not sure what part of this simple concept you don't follow, I think that the iPad Pro is overpriced and doesn't represent good value, in its proposed form at least (assuming reported UK prices are accurate). That is my response to the OP, end of story. I would not change my mind regardless of the opinion of others.

If you feel that a larger, more powerful iPad Air 2, with largely the same software represents good value and a worthwhile purchase, then great! Go for it and have a blast!

Yes. All down to personal opinions, that are all as right and wrong as the next. I think too many people talk with authority here liking their own voices and believing them to be the only correct view. It isnt, in subjective manners :)

Is ipad expensive? Hell yeah.

Is it value for money? Do i mind paying for it? Dunno. Not really. It is blumming expensive. But im paying for it and its my choice. For me, its quality goods.

It's an over sized and over specced regular ipad, with some added extras. Uses ios (not osx thankfully) and is staying a tablet not a hybrid. Awesome. Long may it last. Lets just hope app devs embrace it for us.

But i cant talk for my fellow man.

Agreed.

I might be more interested if developers do something more with the software than what currently exists. I use my iPad as a laptop replacement 99% of the time, but I've not seen enough about the Pro to convince me it'll be any more capable (beyond size and power) than my Air 2. I'd love to be proven wrong.

I'm trying to work out what it might cost in NZ, since our prices for most Apple hardware have risen considerably recently. It looks from comparable products that the ipad pro plus pencil will be NZ$1599 for the 32Gb and NZ$1899 for the 128Gb. (That's equivalent to US$1040 and US$1240, or GBP699 and 820). I don't think I can justify the extra NZ$300 for the increased capacity, when I will be using it almost entirely within wifi reach of mass storage. But in GBP terms it doesn't sound like a great deal...

Prices I mentioned are for the wifi-only including the pencil, just to repeat.

Any idea if iPad Pro will be available to buy from carriers (e.g. Three) like with iPads? Often eases the initial cash flow!
