Same here in The Netherlands, used to be 999 euro, now you have to pay 1039 euro, which equals US $1250. And in the US the price remained unchanged at $999.

Price variations are probably due to the strength (or otherwise) of the dollar. It is fair to say that even after tax is taken into consideration Apple's products are more expensive outside the US and that Apple (like everyone else) is quicker to raise prices that to reduce them.
A case in point is the speed with which petrol firms raise prices at the pumps in response to crude oil prices then take ages to lower them saying the two aren't related....
