While the so-called "iPhone 17 Air" is not expected to launch until September, there are already plenty of rumors about the ultra-thin device.

Overall, the "iPhone 17 Air" sounds like a mixed bag. While the device is expected to have an impressively thin and light design, rumors indicate it will have some compromises compared to iPhone 17 Pro models, including only a single rear camera, a single speaker, and an A19 chip instead of a more powerful A19 Pro chip.

While there have been some concerns that the iPhone 17 Air's thin design could result in limited battery life, the device might end up beating expectations. There are three rumored features for the iPhone 17 Air that could contribute to longer battery life than one might imagine, including a higher-density battery, Apple's power-efficient C1 modem, and the lack of an Ultra Wide camera providing more internal space for a larger battery.

Below, we recap 12 key rumors for the "iPhone 17 Air" as of March 2025:Bookmark our iPhone 17 Air roundup to stay up to date with more rumors in the coming months.

If only Apple had a history of products using the Air branding that were less capable/powerful than the Pro models, usually in the pursuit of reduced weight or thinness. 🙃

I hope the base iPhone 17 will start at $799, and I think it's fine if it comes with 128GB. I also hope the iPhone 17 Air will start at $999 for the 256GB model.

Why does the iPhone 17 Air, with a single camera, go inside the elongated camera bump, but the regular iPhone 17, with two cameras, gets placed in no camera bump? Can someone explain that?

A single speaker—seriously 😑

Maybe I can forgive no ultra wide camera, because the iPad Pro’s thickness was probably a factor for removing it. But if the iPad Pro can have stereo speakers, the iPhone 17 can too.
The single speaker rumor appears to only come from one source, back from November. I don’t believe it, or else it’s something that doesn’t quite make sense to us now, like maybe this front speaker is dramatically improved.
Maybe that’s what the big bar on the back is for?

Everything sounded reasonable until the last item. Can't imagine Apple doing an off-center usb port. Even without Jobs and Ive, that sounds like a big Apple no-go.
For an iPhone it’s not really much of an issue. I have lots of devices with off centre ports and I wouldn’t even think twice.

Its not just a camera bump anymore. They're using the internal space for components that won't fit in the thin body. They'll use the extra volume for a better speaker and better front facing camera.

Honestly ! Some of the missing features are a no go! Like the iPhone 16e in 2025 you can’t pretend to be leader in your field crafting the best phones with mono speaker (when my father Xiaomi 11 lite has Dolby Atmos) … just to name one (like no MagSafe on the 16e and a notch) … As Apple Intelligence it’s simply a joke (the cartoon likes images alone is a total joke) …
