Practicing for a folding phone?I've had a lot of iPhones and never in my life have I wished any of them to be thinner. What is even motivating this product?
MacBook Air. iPad Air… Some people like you asked the same question at that time and look, it seems they are not doing it badly.I've had a lot of iPhones and never in my life have I wished any of them to be thinner. What is even motivating this product? Wait for the Watch Air…
It’s a render based on a rumor, not a real product. Why does the iPhone 17 Air, with a single camera, go inside the elongated camera bump, but the regular iPhone 17, with two cameras, gets placed in no camera bump? Can someone explain that?
I agree; time will tell. Apple is having a hard time selling the Plus, so having an Air version that's thinner, lighter, and great battery life might entice people to buy the Air.Maybe. Time will tell. Personally I think most people will continue to buy either the cheapest model or the model with the biggest screen.
Remember iPad Air was top of the line, preceding iPad Pro!If only Apple had a history of products using the Air branding that were less capable/powerful than the Pro models, usually in the pursuit of reduced weight or thinness. 🙃
That was what jumped out at me. The charging port has been at the iPhone's center since the first model. Having it off-center seems odd (though if true I'm sure it was done for practical and not aesthetic reasons).Off center USB-C port is a deal breaker for me😒
The charging port on the XR and 11 was also off center. That was what jumped out at me. The charging port has been at the iPhone's center since the first model. Having it off-center seems odd (though if true I'm sure it was done for practical and not aesthetic reasons).
LOL, Go for it! Most people use Android already (especially on MacRumors). Use whatever makes you happy. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out… 😉Bro I am 5.5mm away from switching to a pixel
iPhone speakers are a lot different than iPad speakers, a lot smaller.
Interesting. Though I don't have any experience with recent iPad models, I do have an iPad Air 3rd Gen, and it's not much thicker at 6.1mm, so I should have put two and two together. The 17 Air is supposed to get a 24 megapixel front-facing camera, and maybe better/larger optics, so maybe that's added a little to the depth requirement, and/or maybe Apple will have a surprise upgrade for the rear-facing camera requiring the space provided by the bump, but then again, maybe Apple just decided having a wider bump would be seen as a distinguishing visual "design feature". If stopping rocking when placed on a flat hard surface was the goal, you'd think they'd be doing that with the base 17 too, but rumored designs show they're not.The iPad Pro 13” is thinner than the iPhone Air and fits both Face ID and front camera. So it’s not clear that this would be a major impediment.
Of course, but that means you can’t argue based on what is present on the iPad Pro.iPhone speakers are a lot different than iPad speakers, a lot smaller.
Yeah, based on current information, the rationale for the new bar design, and why the regular iPhone is excluded, is unclear. I guess we’ll have to wait for more info, or for the launch.Interesting. ai in 20298GB of RAM for support what?
My point was that thickness isn’t a factor because the iPad Pro is thinner than the rumored iPhone 17 Air. The only thing I can think of is that the battery is going to take up more a footprint, limiting the space for a second speaker. But it’s rumored to have a 120hz display, so they don’t seem too worried about battery life 🤷♂️Of course, but that means you can’t argue based on what is present on the iPad Pro.
Yes, thickness may not be a factor per se, but volume (space) may very well be. Looking at an iPad teardown, it has lots of space besides the battery. An iPhone not so much. Furthermore, thinner does affect the sound quality. An iPad is able to compensate to some extend by having larger speakers, but that’s less of an option on an iPhone. My point was that thickness isn’t a factor because the iPad Pro is thinner than the rumored iPhone 17 Air. lol. Wait, an offset centered USB-C is a feature?
While the so-called "iPhone 17 Air" is not expected to launch until September, there are already plenty of rumors about the ultra-thin device.

Overall, the "iPhone 17 Air" sounds like a mixed bag. While the device is expected to have an impressively thin and light design, rumors indicate it will have some compromises compared to iPhone 17 Pro models, including only a single rear camera, a single speaker, and an A19 chip instead of a more powerful A19 Pro chip.
While there have been some concerns that the iPhone 17 Air's thin design could result in limited battery life, the device might end up beating expectations. There are three rumored features for the iPhone 17 Air that could contribute to longer battery life than one might imagine, including a higher-density battery, Apple's power-efficient C1 modem, and the lack of an Ultra Wide camera providing more internal space for a larger battery.
Below, we recap 12 key rumors for the "iPhone 17 Air" as of March 2025:
