I love how everybody assumes Apple products are over priced, right up until they try to make their own and then sit there scratching their heads going, "how the hell have they managed this?". Just look at what happened with the iPad, all the other companies ended up with tablets that were just as expensive and quite as good.
I think most people given the choice between a MacBook air and say toshibas version for (near enough) the same money, they would choose the MacBook Air every time.

I thought that is what we wanted? Don't we want Apple to rule the world and all others to go by the wayside so we can feel superior and high five each other? Then since we are all so different for choosing Apple, one day soon we'll all be the same. What goes around comes around.

Who said we were different for choosing Apple products?

Why don't they just give up like HP? Pathetic.

Honestly if you're the competition you have to put your best foot forward and commit, goddamnit! Don't be ******* like HP.

Exactly. All other tech companies should just give up. No more HP, Samsung, Dell Sony, Asus, Acer, Toshiba etc etc. Then that would kill Microsoft and make all Appleonians happy. World domination, total monopoly. That is what the goal is.

That image is incredible. The windows machines are so UGLY. That picture should send all of the PC guys back to the drawing board, and win a nice pat on the back for the design team at Apple.

If I wanted a Windows ultra book, I'd still buy the air, and just install Windows.

Cant say i find the Samsung or Toshiba ugly, not at all really. Think im gonna ask if i can change my MBA into something else.

My take: all of these manufacturers are going to fight over Apple's table scraps until they grit their teeth and go with a one-device strategy. Apple owns the profitable market of "mac for these tasks, iPad for this, and a phone for that." Consumers are paying for Apple's products and manufacturers are not going to be able undercut Apple on any one device (pc, tablet, phone). They must cannibalize their own product lines and in doing so Apple's.
Something like the Motorola Atrix (but not underpowered), that you pay $200 on contract and can buy an external keyboard, mouse, and monitor as accessories. It can't rely on proprietary docks. If Ice Cream Sandwich delivers this, maybe real desktop software will make the Android market take off.
I believe this is also in Apple's roadmap to unify iOS and OS X. They are usually the ones to cannibalize their own products. I just am not sure who will have the guts to pull the trigger first, Apple or the PC makers. Probably Apple since they do not rely on Google or Microsoft for an OS.

this remains to be seen. unlike say HTC everyone one of motorola's phones is a new project with different CPU's, graphics, radio, etc. to make it cost a bit less they sell these overpriced accessories. like the Asus transformer and the $150 keyboard.

ARM is too weak to run real desktop software

Most people (really) would give up after 5 minutes of trying to find the start menu, and take the toshiba home with them thinking of how weird that other pc looked and behaved.

W8 will run on ARM. Maybe youre just holding it wrong?

i thought Macs were the most expensive???

In this category of PC all the Non-Apple ones are struggling to make a decent product that is roughly equal to the MBA at the MBA's price. They are cheap junk or reasonably good with a hefty price tag.

I agree 100%. The MBA makes sense. Air = light. And it's a Mac and portable like a book. Makes sense.

Yup totally agree with this, the names are ridiculous and there codes mean absolutely nothing they dont hint at the products nature and since they already have hundreds of different models with similar names it makes it extremely frustrating to look up the model you want.

At least with the name Macbook air... it sort of hints that its a macbook but possibly lighter due to the "air" in the title

Cheap junk? XD

Yeah If I were to invest the money on a super thin laptop it'd be the Macbook Air for me as well.. But it would be nice to see Apple enter that $500 market, but personally I don't think it'll happen..

I agree, ARM is too weak to run MOST desktop class software today. With plans for quad core ARM chips first half of next year and rapid iterations of mobile devices it can't be that far out. And also, in my opinion, the mass market doesn't rely on intense software. Production software will still rely on windows for several years but that will become more niche, aka "pc's are trucks."
For accessories I think people like accessories to match and will buy same brand as long as they don't feel locked in and are not grossly overpriced like the Asus example. Surely there is plenty of margin in Apple and HP's wireless keyboards.

That's what these companies do now. They just look at Apple and make cheap knock-offs, and then wonder why nobody is impressed by their offerings. It's almost sad to watch. Some of these OEMs had really impressive products, but now they all seem like junk that cannot resonate or generate even the slightest excitement.

That's just it. People used to buy computers to do stuff. That's all.

Now they want them to fit in with their lifestyle and people are thinking more about having something that not only works great but looks great too, Which is what Apple have been doing for years.

People don't want a plastic computer from Dell any more.

I'm hoping that all the other companies go out of business so only Apple will remain. I personally hope that one days soon everyone on earth will have an iPhone, iPad and a MBA. That would be so good!

I know your being sarcastic but, If they all go out of business then so will apple as we know it!!!!!

Apple will go the way of Ma Bell.

I'm not sure how baby apples would be.

Baby pod
Baby phone
Baby pad
Bay pro
iBaby (i need to trademark this one)

Considering they have had so long to emulate the MBA, they all look a bit chunky and messy to me compared with their muse. The MacHaterFanboys are gonna have a tough time defending the pricing by looks of things too.

I bought an 11 inch air to my wife.

This is silicon art at is greatest.

I wish there was an air model with graphic card, like the mini. I want hdmi 1.4 output to play 3D games/movies on my TV.
