But Iphone would benefit from it and split screen multitasking as well...

Also we know how these 3-4 year old Iphones are and it's not that fast, they slow down and alot of that has to do with little ram to manager the bigger software Apple puts in them.

Why apple had to throttle to preserve the battery.

Not that fast really? Used a iPhone 6s and 7 recently, still work amazingly well, where do people get this throttling nonsense from. 🤦‍♂️😂

My iPhone 8 Plus was nearly as fast as my iPhone 12. I was amazed how good it still was to be honest. It never gave any impression it was slowing down before I upgraded either.

I played with the S21 Ultra at Best Buy today. Honestly, the phone is kind of meh. It feels a lot less premium than I thought it would, I feel like the matte finish on the back is too plasticky feeling where as the iPhone's 12 Pro Max matte finish is very "frosty" feeling. The aluminum sides on the S21 feels like tin can levels of metal where as the iPhone's stainless steel sides feel like a tank.

The S21 lagged in my hand already, just switching through apps, typing was terrible and the narrow screen sucks. The wider iPhone screen is much nicer for keyboard and viewing videos in portrait mode on youtube while reading comments. The screen is also way too damn blue, I'm so glad Apple gave us True Tone because yeesh, it took me back to the iPhone 7 Plus days.

There's no polish with that phone and I'm a little bit disappointed. Honestly, I'd get a OnePlus 8 Pro over the S21 Ultra because that phone is much nicer. Camera be damned.

Surprise surprise, it’s the same old story with Samsung every year, big specs, yet still trash, 16 gig ram, 120hz screen, massive battery, yet still performs like garbage, people that already have the exynos model are getting overheating messages when recording in 4K for a short period time. 😂

Samsung hardware and software = trash and gimmicks.

Ummm yeah we should know better than to rip on prerelease software on display units by now.

Have to disagree here, pick up a iPhone at a retail shop and you don’t run into any of these issues.
LOL I literally had an iPhone reboot in my hand at a Best Buy last year. You can boast about iOS all you want. Their chips are great. Not doubting the A14, but comparing with a display unit is just laughable.

I switched from Android to iOS back in 2012 and i’ll be honest I don’t even compare iPhones to Android devices anymore. People might think that is insane because I’m no longer clued up with what the grass is like on the other side of the fence. However, I’m happy with what I use and still don’t use many of the things on my iPhone. I’m also of the opinion that I’d still be happy with an LCD screen. Having used OLED for the past 4 months, I still can’t see what all the fuss was about as the screen looks as good as my last phone .

Cpu matters a lot, already exynos s21 ultra owners complaining about the phone overheating, when their doing 2 task at once they get booted out of the app and have to wait for the phone to cool down. 🤦‍♂️😳

A14 Bionic has no competition.

Relax, you’re not on Apple company time right now, so you can pause the sales pitch for now.

There are countless overheating complaints about practically every device made, and that certainly includes iPhones. And how do you know the issue is the processor?

The thing is iPhone doesn't need that much ram, hardware and software work together brilliantly on a iPhone, did I say snapdragon 888 is a crap processor no, just not in the same ball park, universe, when it comes to apples A series chips.
Good grief, do you work for Apple? I made a joke about this in my previous post but now im beginning to wonder.

And please explain how the current Snapdragon CPUs are ‘not in the same ball park’.
Also, yes you did imply that the Snapdragon 888 is crap, with the statement that “Samsung has crappy CPUs”. Well the S21 Ultra uses the 888.

Also, as a developer myself, I’d love your technical explanation on exactly how the iPhone manages ram use as compared to Android, both from a hardware and software perspective. You seem to have very strong opinions here so I’m just curious.

s21 ultra is a great phone and camera but where it struggles is portrait mode and obviously 12 pro max is better still for video. S21 Ultra zoom is amazing and I hope we get that on the iPhone next year as expected.

photo quality is very close some areas the ultra is better and other areas the iPhone.

Even with all the reviews still they don't cover photos of their kids and pets and of course moving objects areas where iPhone 12 Pro max is great at. Thats more important area for me than just stills of amazing buildings shots.

also this is Samsung's 2021 flagship so will see how it compares to the iPhone 12s pro max lol when thats out

There's a reason camera reviews never cover moving subjects. I discovered that reason last year after getting lured in by all the note 20 "best camera ever!" reviews and had a rude surprise when literally every picture of my kid was a blur. No matter what camera settings I tried, everything moving and indoors looked like a watercolor. I could take neat zoomed shots of the moon though 🤷‍♀️ I don't hate android, but I've had tons of android phones from 2011-2018(all high end flagships) and not a single one had a camera that could handle movement.

To be honest, the last 3 phones I've had have been identical in my hands (no games) performance-wise. I went from an iPhone XS Max to a Pixel 4XL now a 12 Pro Max. Opening and using the apps I use every day (admittedly non-heavy duty tasks) I really never noticed any delay or lag on any of the phones with one notable exception.

My Pixel 4XL was perfectly zippy with everything, until I tried taking multiple portrait photos in a row. Taking like 4-5 portraits in a row would temporarily freeze the camera app and bog down the phone to the point where I had to wait 20-45 seconds before taking more photos. Happened while I was trying to get a nice family photo of my two kids and dog. It was hard to get them to all look into the camera at the same time, so I ended up taking about 10 portrait photos as fast as it would let me. 12 Pro Max has zero slow-down in this scenario.... and I honestly never tried this on XS max so can't compare.

As for the Snapdragon 888 coupled with 12GB of ram... I'm sure it would be more than fast enough for anything I do. For me I just had bad experiences with Samsung and their slow update cycle + bloatware in the past otherwise I'd have considered the S21. Also, Dual-sim being disabled in US is a dealbreaker for me. Other than those things it looks like an awesome phone! I wish the iPhone had the 100x zoom gimmick as I would find it more useful than wide-angle.

Notions about iOS devices being slow messes after 3-4 years are completely untrue now for all but the most intensive users. Average consumers can get by fine with 6S, 7, 8, etc. Many still use 5S-6 phones with out of date software. Try using a Galaxy S4/S5 today without hacking to get more modern versions on it (no average consumer will figure that out) and you will be sorely, sorely disappointed.

iOS has much better RAM management than Android. They might refresh apps/pages on websites more these days, but the older devices still get by. It's not like using a 4S on iOS 9. This, along with iOS being a more solid OS overall (and not from Google) are why I stick with iPhone still. I'm not the techie anymore who is willing to buy a new device every year-other year, I have no time for such nonsense. Give me something that works and doesn't get in my way and I'm good to go. I don't have the financial luxury these days to buy the shiniest thing all the time...

yeah my experience with note 20 ultra too. great for normal photos so basically stills but for people/portrait mode/pets and kids it does struggle. big issue with note ultra was shutter lag speed which helped cause the blurry photos. Its suppose to be better with s21 ultra though so will see if that area is fixed.

I think iPhones and pixels are great for these areas of photo taking.

I don’t think the specs even matter when it comes to iOS. I can’t stand Android and the way its updated and that they have to spec the phones out so they work better.
I think the OP was meaning the camera specs like the 108 mp lens. I do think a better zoom lens would be nice to have. The next iPhone will probably have better zoom capability.

Wait, what? What’s wrong with how Android is updated as compared to iOS?

And... “spec the phones out so they work better.” Again, what? Unlike iOS, Android functions on many different devices, and that’s also why it’s more of an open system than iOS.

I use both iOS (iPad Pro 2020, iPhone SE 2020) and Android (Pixel 3XL, other tablets and devices) every day for work, and I can’t see how one is better than the other. They both perform similarly when using apps like Adobe Lightroom, Premier Rush, LumaFusion, and other similar apps.

I have a feeling here that many of these harsh opinions against Android are the result of lack of actual experience with it, especially in its current version. The differences between iOS and Android are much more about preference than actual performance.

Because Samsung and android will always be garbage, this is from a s21 ultra owner, what a joke of a phone, can’t believe Samsung held a event for their exynos chip. 🤦‍♂️😂😂

The chip is useless.

Lol I don’t understand why some people on this website can’t handle criticism of a competitor’s smartphone? Apple is always under scrutiny 99% of the time from all perspectives to a completely obsessive, toxic degree.

But pointing out Samsung’s smoke & mirrors-style of marketing and how their entire lineup are always half-baked, rushed trash? Completely illegal. 😂.

If anything, this is a good thing because you can steer Android lovers to superior phones like OnePlus if they want to stick with Android.

I was with you for a second there, like "oh, finally someone saying that there's constant sensitivity on both sides"! But then you took a side.

After wailing Apple for years on a lot of stupid and annoying decisions I say it’s fair to let the pendulum swing the other way.

Is it not possible just to agree that if you own either of these phones, you’ve got a really good phone?

We’ve known for years and years that when comparing phones you’ll ultimately find certain aspects that are better on one and others that are better on the other. A lot of the user experience is subjective too. Nobody ever wins lol :)
