Unboxing and Disassembly Photos of the New Mac Mini

No...you're saying that. I'm saying the new prices may.... no, will scare off some customers. "In certain territories" as you even quote me. I'm evidently aware of the currency situation yet you redundantly bring it up again anyway. hmm.

It won't scare off customers, these aren't customers anymore. Loss of purchasing power is a fact of life when a currency is losing it's value. One day, you're a BMW customer, the next, you're buying a certified pre-owned Toyota.

Electronics are usually already on razor thin margins. Apple doesn't have the same volume as other manufacturers in the electronic world, so they can't afford to just drop their margins as much. As such, they have to weather the storm, and just offer their products at increased prices as currency devaluates.

Anyway, in this economy, is it really a good idea to spent money on gadgetry when you can't really afford it ? That's what got us into this mess in the first place. People that see the new prices and are put off probably aren't really in need of the equipment in the first place.

That's all over the place.

Apples profit margin is between 30 -50% according to various sources on this forum , hardly a razor thin line that couldn't afford a trim now is it.

Btw I'm in need of a new machine right now, just for basic web duties and the price isn't all that great tbh but it's still the cheapest option to get OS X legally on current hardware....so I'll buy one and so will many, many others.

Still want a minitower...

We've got 2 mac in the house, I personally have had a half dozen macs over the years, but currently I am running a winblows box. I continue to be frustrated by the mac lineup. A modest mini-tower allowing a real graphics card, and at least a couple hard drives seems like such a basic request...

Oh well. Apple has been, and continue to be a profitable small time player till they address the core instead of just the niche.

Smaller?

I give up. You do not and will not ever get it. No one ASKED for an ultra small Mini with ultra-low power consumption. What people HAVE asked for is a fairly priced Mac with some limited upgrade options. What is not to get? Compare spec for spec. Leave the size out of it as no person I know is complaining about the size and power consumption of their desktop. This is like talking to 1st grader.

I give up.

D

I care about smaller form factor and power consumption. I don't need some big tower sitting on my desk, and not the mention the noise that thing is going to make.

The Mini is just the right size to fit on my desk and its quiet.

Now I haven't read all the b&tching going on a $599 (US) computer that was meant for some one that already had a computer and wanted to switch over to the Mac. That user wouldn't been keyboard, mouse and monitor. What you people want is a real desktop which the Mini is not.

Face it guys, you're not going to get a xMac like you dream.

Those out of the US that have high Mini prices is I'm sorry that has happened. Maybe if the exchange rates where better you get (or close) the same price the the US gets.

I only want a reasonably priced entry-level Mac. The Mini is NOT it. It is low in specs and high on stuff that NO ONE WANTS (generally) such as size, power consumption and sound (although that is important to me - sound that is). If you think $599 for a low-end, low-spec'd Mini is fair you need to rethink your position. I always have Hackintosh (which I have gone to since Apple will NOT release what the actual customers WANT). You are in the MINORITY on the Mini. IF it was what the customer base wanted why did it take them 2-years to update it? Why did they not ONCE sell out of the Mini save for the G4 when it was first released (at a lower cost I might add)? This is a silly argument. Apple products (which I only own in my house) ARE over-priced and only silly apologists would disagree with that - and they are known NOT to give the customers what they want but what APPLE wants. Silly - and with the HUGE numbers of Hackintosh computers being built should show this.

Was there a HUGE clamoring for a low power consumption, ultra small very quiet mini desktop with specs that were outdated two years ago? Really? I have not EVER heard that - EVER, and I check the forums often.

I give-up - this is like arguing with a door. You just do not get it and I guess I should not expect you to as empathy and thought are two things that are severely lacking in today's world - it is always about me, me, me. Silly. No wonder the world is falling apart.

It is an entry-level Mac. However, I'm sure most people will get by with the Mac mini. People need to try it before do the talking.

An entry-lever you say?

There are lots of people like me who don't need more power - we love the small size, the quiet fan and low power usage as we leave it on all day. The Mac is very reliable, very virus/spam free, and comes with lots of excellent software. I will be buying the new mac mini in about 2 weeks. Our first one is a 1.83 2 core dual and I put 4 GB of ram into it. It seems to utilize 3 GB of ram which is great!

The mac mini is good but I prefer the iMac. I like everything in one (except keyboard and mouse). My family has an iMac and we are thinking of getting a Mac Mini aswell because it's really small and light.

2.26 Mac Mini

I'll be buying a new 2.26 basic Mac Mini tomorrow at the Grand Opening Celebration at a new downtown Boise Apple Store (MacLife). At the celebration, people can register to win a new iMac, macbook, and numerous other prizes. If you live near Boise, ID, come visit the Opening Celebration.

This will be our second Mac Mini so my wife and I won't be sharing our one computer anymore.

Our 1st one is a 1.83GHz (2007) model with upgraded 4GB DDR2 ram.
The new mini will be upgraded at a later date...

The 2.26GHz is Configure-To-Order, can't just get one in a store afaik. Took like 10 days for mine to arrive. The basic option at both price points is 2.0GHz...

You are right, but I ordered it a while ago and the store said they would have it ready for me to pick up today at the Opening Celebration.
