Just want to share my experience. I am with AT&T.

I walked into apple store and bought the only phone left - 64gb verizon. I told them I wanted the device only. I paid and walked out.

Before turning the new phone on , I swapped my att SIM card in since the one in the phone was a verizon. Booted up and everything works like a charm.

No tricks and very simple.

Thank you Satnam1989 for posting all this information.

I was with AT&T but have decided to switch to Verizon for the 5S. This is great news for people who travel between USA and Asia. Instead of switching sim cards, I can just pop in my Hong Kong sim card and take it out when I'm back in the states.

just pop in your SIM and don't stress about the rest because all 3 you asked about are major carriers - they are official carriers of the iPhone, therefore are pre-programmed all you need to is activate the service with them (SIM from AT&T / T-Mobile or CDMA on Verizon)

Does AT&T LTE work?

Just to confirm, yes it works completely. See the images below. The only thing I am noticing, which i'm almost 99% sure is supposed to happen - is on phone calls, the phone switches from LTE to 4G, but goes right back to LTE.

So - I found an iPhone 5S that I wanted in-stock at a local Wireless Zone store. My friend has a VZW upgrade available and agreed to "sell" me his upgrade. He goes to the store to get the iPhone, but they tell him that VZW requires the phone to be activated in store to purchase. And that it must remain active for 6 months.

Anyone else experience this? I've purchased many phones on contract but never activated, and sold them to other folks countless times on US Cellular (and Verizon in the past).

Somewhat aggravated about it at the moment. The only "policy" I can find is in regards to release day iPhone sales.

Yeah, that should be correct. When you're on a phone call, it switches to 4G for simultaneous voice and data. I see the same thing with the Z10 I have from work.

I'm thinking of switching to Straight Talk from Verizon. Is there any disadvantages on Straight Talk over major carriers? I heard that on Straight Talk I cannot make Facetime or any kind of video calls? Because that would be a bummer for I use Facetime a lot. So MMS will work with the correct manual settings setup right? No automatic setup? I also heard about data use being throttled if over data cap? I do a lot of video streaming so I hope there would be an option to be able to use large amount of data. What do you think?

Thing is, don't expect to get $130 worth/type of service from straight talk, I think FaceTime will not work over Cellular Data, and if u abusively use Data to stream video's they will cut you off and/or throttle your data. Basicially you can't be a pig and use ton of data while paying $45.....their "Unlimited" is mainly for folks that use it for browsing etc, I mean I use about 1.5-2GB data/month so its perfect (When I was on ST, will be back on starting next month now that they have LTE), My Data breakdown:

- Emails (4+ accounts/30+email per day with attachments)
- Apps (Twitter, Pulse News App, Whatsapp and couple more that I keep open all the time)
- Safari (browse quiet a bit)
- Stream music (Pandora + iTunes Radio - about 15-30mins just about daily)
- update small apps
- Google Maps (10-30miles daily guidance)

Total = 1.5GB-2GB....never been over, so it works for many like me

If he went to an indirect VZW store, they may have him sign the 180 day active on account compliance. But, if it's a VZW Corporate [ direct ] store, no such conditions apply.

Virgin Mobile offers iPhone 5s contract free for $100 less

So Virgin Mobile is now selling the iPhone 5s contract free for $550, $100 less than others:

http://appleinsider.com/articles/13...virgin-mobile-for-100-less-than-apple-pricing

http://www.virginmobileusa.com/shop/cell-phones/iphone-phones/

I understand Virgin uses Sprint's network and is CDMA. Is there any reason, however, you couldn't take the contract free phone and go to another carrier like Staight Talk or AT&T? I know there is some concern with T-Mobile phones being flagged as such (which may impede using some other carriers) while Verizon phones do not carry such restrictions. Are there any similar restrictions on phones purchased through Virgin contract free?

Thank you.

It would be certain that since virgin uses sprint, it's a sprint locked CDMA device just like what sprint sells. You cannot unlock those for domestic carriers, only sprint. That's pretty much what this whole thread is about

Verizon iPhone 5S/C with AT&T sim and multitasking

This is an excellent post that explains well many answers that I was looking for. However, I am still struggling to understand one thing. As we know, on Verizon network we cannot use voice and data simultaneously. But if we put AT&T or any other GSM SIM in a Verizon iPhone 5S or C, will that enable it to have voice and data at the same time because now we are not on CDMA but on GSM?
Thank you all in advance for explaining this.

Yes, that's exactly what it will do. The Verizon 5s is identical to the AT&T version except that it also has a working CDMA radio in addition to a working GSM radio.

made a quick video on Youtube today - http://youtu.be/y1QwHU-GS20 - my first video ever - made via iMovie on OSX - will make future ones better as I learn more

have a look - just showing my 5S running Straight Talk LTE and Working on Verizon.

Note its a Straight Talk AT&T SIM as LTE is not available via Straight Talk T-Mobile SIM's.

Speeds are on par with AT&T GoPhone (which is on par with PostPaid) only difference being ST has higher PING (the only 1 location I did multiple tests at had around 160 vs 40-80 on AT&T GoPhone)

Good vid. But what do you mean by tmobile lte not on the phone? It should support all bands of lte right now

Gotcha. I think you get lte on go smart and simple mobile though right? Do they use the roaming towers on tmobile

I watched your video - Thanks!!! You said in you video that the ATT and T-Mobile 5S' will work on Verizon's network, but only on LTE and not 3G. Whereas, the Verizon 5S' will work for both 3G and LTE on all 3 networks (T-Mobile, ATT and Verizon). Is this correct?

Yes 100%.

Note using AT&T/T-Mobile iPhone 5S on Verizon is not going to be all that great mainly because the phone will have trouble at times as normally its suppose to drop back down to 3G(CDMA) when needed. So I do not advise people try/waste/spend time attempting. As stated above, if one is buying the iPhone 5S/5C outright at full price, go grab a Verizon model because you might as well get best of all worlds since its not costing anything extra.
