So I just switched from my XS to the 11 Pro Max, and aside from the battery and camera, and obviously the size (my XS was the regular model), I can't really tell the difference.

Obviously the changes were not that big, and I went with the 11 Pro Max because I have big hands and wanted a bigger phone (and a MUCH better battery life), but otherwise it's hard to tell the difference. Which, I guess, is actually a compliment to the consistency of Apple's hardware and software design, but still it feels a bit lackluster.

I think the biggest problem is that I just switched to the new one using the set up from my old one, so everything was copied, and all the apps were in the same place, which makes it feel like I barely switched.

Smartphones are in a great place now, and it's hard to justify the need for a "pro" model, since a $400-500 phone can do basically everything, but still, I just want that "new car" feeling, at least for a few days.

I understand that this is such a first world complaint, but did anyone experience anything similar to this? Would like to know your thoughts.

With everything known, what were you expecting?

I said I understand that the changes were small, I just wanted a clear feeling of a new device being superior. Like when I buy a new car, the whole experience is what matters.

So it's not about the device itself, it's more about the whole experience. Which I think is due to, again, copying everything from the old phone on set up. Just something I think Apple can possibly improve in the future.

So this really isn't about the objective differences between the phones... this is about your subjective emotional relationship with the phones. You should consider asking yourself why you depend on having such a strong emotional tie to a phone.

What's wrong with that? A lot of people relate emotionally to cars. Not everyone is the same, this is basically just my 2 cents. Not to mention that all ads that sell phones, cars, real estate etc., are based on emotions. Very rarely are humans 100% logical, no matter what they like to tell themselves..

Not this again.

Not this again.

It's a great phone and I needed the bigger screen&battery, but the whole experience when you copy everything from the old iphone to the new one, while great, feels a bit flat.

Still a great phone and improvement for me, I just wish there was a bit more it. Think of my complaint as if you just got the phone handed to you in the store, without the box or anything. Obviously, if buying new, the packaging is important to the whole experience.

Again, the phone is great, but for the money one expects just a bit more. Which is standard with products in the premium category and a reason Apple invests so much into retail. I don't know what they can add, again, just my two cents.

Now a days generation to generation the changes are less pronounced. Certain mobile technologies have hit somewhat of a saturation point.

Given how expensive premium phones are now, it does make that annual upgrade a bit harder to stomach with the more iterative upgrades

if the upgrades you value were worth it, like battery life which is a significant one for some people, than it was a good upgrade to make!

Here are some things you will or won’t readily notice. A13 chip, better gpu, WiFi 6, matte finish on the back which I love with logo now centered and the iPhone wording gone. Double the water resistance. U1 chip, faster Face ID . Double the screen contrast ratio, brighter screen. The newer space gray color which I like, same pricing as last year. And of course as you mentioned the better battery life and cameras. For me it wasn’t “underwhelming”

I had a similar reaction when upgrading iPad to iPad Pro. Don’t get me wrong, I kindalike FaceID, usb-c etc but for what I use iPad for the upgrade or improvements in performance just isn’t there. There’s so little in these processor/chips nowadays (between generations) it’s barely splitting hairs. I know it’s likely a stronger performer in demanding tasks but my uses simply do not utilise the horsepower, so essentially I have an iPad Pro that looks better than the last one on the face of it but both perform identically, speed wise in everyday tasks.

I ultimately didn’t need it but thought I did (Thanks MacRumors) and that niggled at me till I bought it then kinda regretted it when I realised it was pretty much identical, on the inside, to my much cheaper, slightly uglier previous iPad 😉

I switched from an iPhone X to an 11 Pro this week and the only difference I have noticed is the nightmode feature, which I’ve yet to test. I thought the battery was going to last much longer, but I’m charging the 11 Pro twice a day, just like I did with the X. Probably should’ve waited until the 2020 iPhone cycle, but I was excited about the camera and battery.

this is honestly such a bad year to upgrade and you should only upgrade if you have a 6 or 7. if you looking to be wowed wait til next year. where they are redesigning the whole frame.

Oh yeah? I won’t be wowed. I don’t need 5g. Redesigning the frame won’t change how you use the phone. Oh by the way, you shouldn’t wish for the hardware features you want because the price will go up. I promise you when they reveal the pricing you’ll be crying, bitching, and whining like never before. I can’t wait! 🤣

This is why I don’t upgrade every year. You don’t so easily see any difference if you come from last year’s phone. I went from an 8 to the 11 Pro, there‘s a significant difference between the two.

So aside from two huge changes, nothing has changed.

If your having to charge an 11 Pro twice a day it’s faulty or setup wrong. What’s your battery usage? Post up some screen shots of your battery screen...

i don't need 5g either, but i'll be happy they finally going back to qualcomm, if they charge too much i just won't buy the phone and stick to my x. buying an iphone this year is like buying a toyota camery before they do a face lift on a new model. either way you spin it you still spending $$$

I’m just happy I can almost make a whole day on one charge now, on the XsMax I had to use the battery case just to get through the day.
