Sometimes it's not that easy. If the genius can't see it you have that issue. If you do get another there is a good chance it's going to be the same or worse. Tough call.

True. That is why I never exchange. I return within 14 days and then buy another a little later. But you're right, these decisions are never easy and on the next try you may get the same, worse or one with a different issue. I would never recommend that someone keep a device they are unhappy with however.
A separate problem here is that many don't see uneven color tints or if they do, don't care. Derogatory comments are made towards those who do and also leave the impression that most others are getting perfect screens.

I could definitely see that others would not see what I see. I am quasi-picky. My family, none of them are picky at all and couldn't see what I was talking about. Haven gone on the wild goose chase to find the perfect iPhone screen or laptop screen before, I have tempered that to a degree.

Would really appreciate any help-I don't have back light bleed and trying to decide if I should exchange

Why does someone else need to tell you how your screen looks? You're looking at it in real life. Only your opinion matters.

Sometimes it's nice to get confirmation or more information from people who own similar devices.

What do we think of this screen? New 13" TB 2017

It seems perhaps slightly pink but you can calibrate the colour profile. Also, I've noticed it's actually the iphone camera making areas of the screen appear brighter than others and changing the colour, as seen when i take a photo to the left of the screeen on image 1 as opposed to the others
I do however have amazing blacks to the point i couldnt differentiate from the bezel earlier

Looks like pink on the sides and a yellowish vertical stripe right of the middle. The best way to test this is a website with white background and black or dark text. Scroll around and see if the colors changed. Shrink Safari into a square about the 1/4 the size of the screen, move it around. Does the color change?

What screen to do you have? System preferences/Display/Color/Open Profile, Line 17.

Here we go. It's hard to notice but it's there. The center right portion of the display is slightly warmer than the left side. I immediately noticed this in the Apple store but didn't feel like dealing with it at the time. I thought maybe it wouldn't bother me once I got home and started using my new device but it just makes me mad that for $1500 the colors/tint aren't evenly distributed. Also, I apologize in advance for the potato IQ and the reflection but even with these elements the difference in screen uniformity is still pretty apparent.

For those of you who have the 2016 MBP, does your screen exhibit similar properties? Use the link below to spot any differences in color/tint.

Did you ever resolve this?

I'm not saying this cases don't exist, but I do think everyone taking pics of their screen and effectively viewing their screen through their iPhone's camera is making this a lot worse than it is. Coming from a mid 2012 MacBook pro, what I have noticed is the angle you view this screen at effects the colour the most, perhaps due to the anti glare coating? I think it's a case of just not being used to it.

I shall take a photo of the two laptops side by side

Update:
Here's a comparison between my 2012 and 2017 macbook pros. The 2012 is exactly the same, but yellow tinted.

The left image looks pinker on the right sides, the right image has warmer/yellow bands on right and left. That is what I see.

And I have found although pictures don't represent the actual quality of the screen, many times the screens are worse than what can be photgraphed.

I have a 2015 15" Mac Book Pro and the screen is near perfect. White point across the screen is very uniform. I bought the 2016 version and right out of the box I noticed the tint shift (warmer on left cooler on right). I packed it up and bought a new one. Same thing. I said screw it I'll stick with my 2015. I was hoping Apple would have fixed the issue on the 2017 release. Nope. I received it in the mail yesterday and it's the exact same issue. I expect better for $5000.00! I also expect better from Apple! I'm a photographer and this is not acceptable for me or my clients. Yes I have a proper desktop monitor that's calibrated but I want to be portable as well from time to time. This is called a MacBook "PRO". It should be at a pro level. Not standard consumer crap. I miss the old days of Apple severely.

I agree. I also believe whatever this problem is should be fixed.
I hope so too! It's a common problem with screens today across the board. Some worse than others. My brand new 32" BenQ has the issue but it's not as obvious and much more liveable. Is Samsung supplying all of Apples panels these days?
[doublepost=1511921967][/doublepost]The screen is the window into everything you do on a computer. They shouldn't cut corners here. IMO ;)

Have you ever seen how thick an Eizo Screen is? They go through a lot of effort to place the back light the right distance from the panel and also have a film gap between the screen and the panel. I am actually surprised they have not teamed up with anyone to put one of their screens in a laptop. Though it would probably cost more then the laptop.

update on my screen: still huge shift from blue to pink. no update there but did decide to let GF have it; i just cant look at a dodgy screen. picking up something different for now.

Uneven tint is a cool issue. BUT. I had stain gate with my 2013 early rMBP two years ago. I was very carefully after the change and I sold that this spring when I bought the new version of MBP with touch bar. The old one was perfect and factory condition. In my new MBP I have had two display replacement due to uneven tint, plus one top case replacement regarding keyboard issue.
It was OK so far, but I have noticed that the stain gate issue is appeared in this machine: the keyboard can cause that. Nice. So there are uneven tint, keyboard and stain gate.
I wrote an email to Tim in order to get a new machine, no answer :p:p:p

Late 2018 now! We're still having these uniformity issues. I returned my last macbook pro 5 times back in 2013.

I finally needed to replace it and now have a new top of the line 15".

The screen is about as good (maybe a little worse) than the best of the screens I could find back in 2013, at least with regard to color uniformity. I had hoped things would have gotten better in 5 years!

I'd say the attached photo does a pretty good job of representing how it looks. The photo does seem to make it look like a worse problem than it looks in real life because it's of course smaller in size than the real screen and darker.

I'm not sure if it's worth trying to go through replacements. Probably isn't!

LG IPS panels are ******... It's their manufacturing process trying to cheap out.

All the LG IPS Panel exhibit similar problem across all other brand as well. The way it have uniformity / tint shift are identical.

The sad part is even if you get a good uniform panel, you could have back lighting spotlight issues at the bottom of the screen warranting a replacement, because of a cable going bad, or bad design, etc.

...thats what happened to my 2016 nTB and fortunately the replacement display is almost as good, ive seen so many ugly ones in this thread, etc.

but these laptops are so poorly engineering longevity wise (imo) and apple products in general these days, that they arent really built to last. just built to make it through the standard warranty

Hi guys,
this is my first message here. But I have to say I also have tint uniformity issues. It happened on my 2016 MBP without touchbar after less than a year. My local apple store replaced the screen. But now it is happening again. Some areas are more blue and some other more yellow. I think it will be my first and only mac. And the worst is that they tell me this is not recurrent issue...
