Maybe you could heat the metal up to make it more maleable as well

Yeah, great idea, apart that heating aluminum changes it's heat treatment state(or is it temper in english? not my first language) and will render it less malleable and brittle.

I have dent on my current 2009 lid. anywhere I can buy an OEM version? or even a knockoff? Not getting much help with google.

If it's a unibody design, you will need to replace the entire display/lid. The glass is bonded to the LCD, and it's all bonded to the lid. iFixit is a good source - tested and warrantied parts. Otherwise, eBay.

ive got a dent/bend in the exact same place as the op's. its not where near as bad, in fact its barely noticeable at all, my girlfriend cant see it even when i point it out to her. ive never dropped it, so it may have come like this and i just didnt notice, but it does look like an extremely weak point because of how thin the metal is

If you have this bent unibody issue, DO get it fixed! My girlfriend's was bent at the notorious Ethernet port just like the original poster's. We didn't do anything about it and now the problem is much bigger. Her screen cracked! Not the LCD display itself but the screen (thank goodness!). That's actually not too big a deal; it's cheap and a pretty easy fix. The bad part is the frame that the LCD screws to is broken in two places. And that isn't a part you can just find on ebay.

Basically, the spot with the kink in it was pressing against the screen whenever the lid was closed. Enough of that pressure over time and it finally gave. Bad news!

So I've got feelers out and may have located a guy who collects busted Macbooks and parts them out. I'm gonna replace the broken bits and try to unbend the bend. I'm pretty handy with tools so I'm sure I can do it. Wish I had done it sooner though.

All I'm saying is, if you have this problem, don't do nothing.

Take it to Apple, I did something similar. Stupidly tried to fix with a hammer and something flat behind but it just ended looking terrible!

Cost to be repaired Apple £160 for top case including service fee. I got a whole new keyboard , speakers and trackpad included in the price.
