And as others have said, I have no connection to these characters. Nobody looks like their real-life counterpart. In Pirates and even Jobs, you could connect with the actor as being THE person you expect them to be. This movie, I don't even know who that guy is. I mean literally, I've never heard of him before he got the part.

And forget about the fact that this saga dragged on for so long, the people who are not Jobs fans who would have seen this movie years before, probably won't now.

You are talking about Fassbender? You must not have been watching that many movies in the last number of years.

Plenty of people who aren't specifically Jobs fans or really follow tech are the same ones who aren't Zuckerberg fans and don't really follow tech and yet plenty of them saw The Social Network.

None that he was in. I had to go to IMDB to see what he was in, and I see I did see one of his movies, Inglourious Basterds back in 2009. I see he does X-Men. I'm no comic fan and haven't seen any of those. Looks like he's doing video game movies too, which I also don't watch.

I'll form an opinion after I see the movie, in my experience trailers can be quite misleading. Any issues regarding the appearances and resemblances of actors are likely to remain in forums. The general public won't notice or care, it's just a movie meant to entertain. No one outside of Apple die hards will be bothered.

From what I saw, no reason for anyone outside of forum-goers to see the movie. It just doesn't seem that entertaining if you don't already have an interest in Steve Jobs. And if you DO have an interest in Steve Jobs, what I saw from the trailer doesn't connect. Nothing about Fassbender's portrayal is reminiscent of Steve Jobs (not his appearance, not his speech, not his mannerisms, not his physicality, not the things he is saying). Nothing about Seth Rogan's portrayal is reminiscent of Woz, either, and the things his character is saying are completely antithetical to what we know of Woz.

Following an initial teaser earlier in May, Universal today released the first official full-length trailer for the upcoming Steve Jobs movie.

The two-and-a-half minute trailer provides the longest look at the Danny Boyle-directed biopic that anyone has seen yet, balancing focus between Steve Jobs' various behind-the-scenes product launches and his intense personal life regarding his relationship with daughter Lisa Brennan-Jobs.

The trailer also gives more in-depth looks at Jeff Daniels and Kate Winslet, especially, as John Sculley and Joanna Hoffman, with various through-the-years glimpses of Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs. After various casting calls and set photo leaks earlier in the year, excitement around the somewhat troubled film has only been steadily building. Fans can expect to see the full movie in theaters October 9.

As well as plenty of other movies.

Well, he wasn't in 'The Theory of Everything' or 'The Imitation Game'. I'm sorry he can't be in all the movies I watch. I didn't know he was such a great actor it was your duty to watch all of his movies... He's no Steve Jobs that's for sure.

I didn't know there were Fassboys around these parts!

I really liked Fassbender as the cyborg in "Prometheus" but as Steve Jobs, not so much from that trailer. Nothing he did reminded me of Jobs in any way. James Taylor makes me think of Jobs more than Fassbender, lol. Except James Taylor is always smiling ;) I don't know if Jobs liked listening to James Taylor but every time one of Taylor's songs plays on my iPhone I think of Steve.

My god, that looks awful. I never understood the fascination with Jobs. Did he solve world hunger? Did he cure cancer? No he just remarketed a freakin electronic music device, heck he didn't even invent it. I'm sure there are thousands of prickly, genius CEO's around the world who have fascinating personalities, it's almost a requirement for such a job.

The casting is awful. I'm a Fassbender fan, but I'm just not feeling it with him. I keep expecting him to pull out a gun, or foil an assassination attempt. Seth Rogen looks awful as well. Why do they keep casting Wozniak with comedic slob type actors? He was a genius and a keystone of the company and deserves to be cast with a real actor.

You made it a point to imply something about the actor by saying that you didn't even see anything with him in it. I was just pointing out that when it comes to something like that it can say more about you than the actor.

Considering your association of Jobs with the iPod, I suspect you are too young to remember using computers before Macs and then Windows. If you HAD been there in those dark and painful days, you would understand why those of us who WERE there have such high regard for Jobs and the people he ingeniously assembled and led. He may not have personally invented and/or built every single thing Apple has ever created but his influence is all over every single thing and without his leadership and perseverance in getting the best out of everyone who ever worked with him, Apple wouldn't be as great as it is today. And may I be bold enough to state that without Jobs, Apple's competitors wouldn't be as good as they are today, either. All you have to do is look at smartphones pre-iPhone to know that's true.

Actually I was around, gah I'm old. I agree with you 110%, he deserves a hell of a lot of credit and was a genius, a master of his craft. But just as much as he influenced others he was influenced as well. The competition he created was largely in part to, well to compete with others on the same or a better level. I don't see many if any movies about the ones who influenced him.

Not everything is a good thing though IMO. IPads dumbed down the computer market, a somewhat necessary dumbing down due to hardware limitations, heat, battery life, weight, etc. But a dumbing down that isn't needed anymore, yet it sticks with us. Same for the iPhone, a dumbing down. I rather liked windows mobile before the iPhone, yes the OS was clunky as hell but at least they understood the relationship with a full computer. Now while Apple still is stuck with a prehistoric OS, other companies are shifting towards your smartphone eventually being your desktop, and removing the need for a laptop, tablet, desktop, etc.

Anyhow don't mean to get off topic. While I think Jobs is a genius I just don't get what makes him worthy of so many movies and adulation. Was it because he was such a polarizing figure? Because he was such an a hole? Was it because he abandoned his daughter or screwed over his partner? Was it because he parked his Mercedes in the handicap spot? I suppose it does make for a good drama, but I'll bet you see that kind of drama in any boardroom around the world.

Obviously, you have your biases, as do I. But my life experiences with Apple products doesn't match yours in the slightest. It mystifies me when you say a phone could EVER replace a desktop computer. wtf? What non-Apple phone could replace the need for any other kind of computer for anyone with more than the most simplistic of computing needs? Name something significantly advanced any other company's phone does that would make it closer to being a computer replacement that an iPhone doesn't already do.

Yeah, it says I don't like video game or comic movies.

I don't know if that's Fassbender or Taylor... good job if it's Fassbender.

Here is the bottom line. I'm sure almost everyone here has seen Pirates. Many have seen Jobs. I've seen both, so I'll have at least two to compare this new movie to. Granted Pirates wasn't just about Jobs/Apple, but a large portion of it was and certainly the stories of Apple/Microsoft intertwined during the decades. So I'll see it. Will I see it in the theatre? Probably not. But who knows. I am not excited about the movie from that trailer though. I could really connect with the actors in the first two, for good or bad as it were. But I just don't get that feeling with this one. Sorry to the Fassbender groupies on MR in advance.

See, it completely and utterly baffles me how anyone could say a phone wouldn't make sense to replace a desktop, I mean really baffles. Have you read about windows continuum feature in windows 10? When docked your smartphone will act as a regular desktop PC, just dock it into a mouse/keyboard/monitor. That's a FULL windows computer, not a watered down version of windows. Atom CPU's have already demonstrated just how powerful they are, there should be no issue running PhotoShop, MS office, etc etc. There is more than enough power there to drive desktop type programs easily and then some. This is even more amazing in countries in which the only computer some people have IS their smartphone.

And to specifically address your question what non-Apple phone could do a better job? Well, all of them. Heck even Android has mouse capability and Google gave it some desktop power. iOS simply blows itself up to fill up the monitor, but the OS does not change at all, you still get that grid of icons from 1998, it's easily the poorest solution to replace a desktop, by far. But that's by design, Apple stands to lose a lot of money if you only buy one device, but this way you are buying a desktop, laptop, tablet and phone from them, smart company.
