This was a bit tough to get thru but …

He does a nice job of tying it together.
You can check the other videos of his channel. He sells his security products. But important part is that he explains why with verifiable and clean approach. People have a habit to look one foot ahead and cannot comprehend that corporations add system features to be expanded, not to be suppressed or forgotten. When Apple is investing resources in development of this type of policing on the device it is obvious that this must be utilized for future. When you can deploy server-side standard (photoDNA) used by industry, but instead choose to create NeuralHash to protect "privacy" (which is absurdity on another level) you will use this tech for your future benefit (politically correct partnerships, future control of user content, DMCA.2, etc..

Anyone remember this new China Hong Kong secuirty law that was brought in in 2020?

The details of the law's 66 articles were kept secret until after it was passed. It criminalises any act of:
  • secession - breaking away from the country
  • subversion - undermining the power or authority of the central government
  • terrorism - using violence or intimidation against people
  • collusion with foreign or external forces

If China was to decide that certain images, texts, documents and videos broke that law, China could get the hash values of what it wanted banned to be added to Apples scanning system. What is Apple going to do, say no? I doubt it and this is the problem that critics of the system are trying to point out, will Apple comply to the wishes/demands of governments when they request certain images, documents and videos are scanned to comply with the countries law.

Also, what about the Charlie Hebdo shootings

The images the newspaper produced are illegal in Islamic countries because it breaches Blasphemy and Morality laws. Therefore could Islamic governments get Apple to comply with their laws and thus have their system flag up the images that appeared in the newspaper and report them to law enforement.

That's what I've been saying over and over in multiple threads. It will get used for other more controversial things, as they've set the precedent.

But of course that makes me a 'tinfoil hat consipiracy theorist!'

Don't bother at all. Share your point of view for likeminded people. Partially I understand the reaction. Apple brand is so strong that people are refusing reality.

We live in transitional times, the internet of old is gone. Corporations and governments now control the information flow. It is over. We have to adapt to the new environment. Using "latest and greatest" tech toys is not mandatory, we have enough software and hardware tools to work privately.

The moment in which using VPN is outlawed and encryption banned I will shut down the internet and use it only in mandatory situations. I have tons of books, music on cd and Vinyl. The concept of ownership is made unpopular for the new generations by the billionaires. Who by the way are buying land as crazy. Gates, Brin, Tiel and company are prepared for the "beautiful" future.
People are victims of their own illusions. They always will need someone to "take care" and "protect".
Nothing new under the sun.

They will realize this, when social rating system cuts them off their illusionary virtual world.

On current situation: I am glad that Apple ignores all critical reactions. In this way we don't have a slightest doubt what is this all about. :)

Well … Google left China and it is still … So it is entirely down to Cook and Apple to collaborate or not with oppressing processes in favor of profits.

I think it is funny that according to American mindset the most unpopular company in the privacy context leaves the market of a totalitarian regime and the most popular does not … and …

Will see. As I’ve said before … what’s the actual Agenda here? This move does not make sense given its advertised purpose. That is a logical fact … reasoning explained in a previous post.

I should have been clearer. I was talking employees at One Apple Park Way….. Apple Store employees I have not seen anything concrete on their response.
But there are no known ‘Apple campus employees’ here - unless you have some real proof? Just Apple employees. That’s very very wide.
Are you uninformed? There is no paranoia. There are plenty of legislations in EU to break encrypted chat. Tim Apple will visit The White House to discus cybersecurity. Multiple corporations (including DuckDuckGo, for my surprise) had recent conference, including Apple. There are legislations in process. But I will not do your homework, boy. If you are so active here may be you can do your own research.

Please don't respond to my comments.
Did you just call me ‘boy’? 😂 good one. Respectful. Great argument.

Again - theoretically. Theoretically Apple could have introduced an unknown backdoor in their os for the past 40 years. Why on earth they would announce such a move to do it. It’s quite nonsensical. Maybe they’re planning on it, maybe it’s possible with this new function. But all is hypothetical until we know more and until we see the audits whatever form they may take, for ourselves.

Who are they to question Apple. Apple is lord god almighty and knows what’s best for everyone…
Apple follow through with this, will definitely move on to a different company and never will an Apple product be purchased in my household again.

Apple go through with this, and it’s goodbye from me. And no, I’m not a nonce FFS! 🙄
nobody is accusing you of anything to be against this move. However, it’s prudent to be aware of all of the information rather than relying on hearsay. As it stands now, all of these forums comments are based on hearsay. This is true. There can be no denying this.

No, there are official apple statements and "papers" to learn from what they intend. And there is a lot of scientific feedback from serious people that voiced concerns. The narrative we are just too stupid to understand has worn out.

It would be great if Tim could speak about it and how apple reacts to the concerns and what they maybe had missed in the beginning. I still trust them to turn around in time instead of going the surveillance route. I would hate to have to leave apple. I am still hoping for some good solution to this. Why would they ruin their excellent reputation?

No. There are official Apple statements and papers about what they intend. There are no public releases of the software. There are no independent audits yet. Everything else is rumour, including any from scientific professionals (sic). It’s hilarious that those frequenting a rumour site cannot see this. Judge, jury and executioner before the evidence is seen. I’ll bet most of you here would be adamantly against that in most other circumstances.

That is the biggest issue - Apple has once again retreated into silence instead of open honest discussion.
From the basic user to highly skilled individuals and groups are asking. However all we get is silence.

The product is not released. It’s just announced. There has been no silence from Apple- they have released several papers and faqs on the matter. For verification of the conspiracy-esque condemnation, we would need our hands on the software, amd we would need independent verification.
it’s not released yet, so until this is the case and both things are in our hands - you’re speaking hypothetically. Is is everyone.

It’s truly not that difficult to understand. Until you know- you don’t know. And nor does anyone else.
They haven’t just planted it on your phone. It’s announced is all.

I’m waiting for individually verified information, but so far in this internet thread of armchair bandits, it’s unsurprisingly unforthcoming.

… and that communiction has been lacking in detail including “how”, ”why”, and ”why now”.
Even after all the uproar, the questions, we still have silence.

This isn’t a function I want to get via “Surprise!!!”.

In a way, the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals set forth by the World Economic Forum. I'm guessing a lot on this but once the precedent is set, they will then go after other forms of 'bad people' such as those who saya anything bad about the government, oppose the 'green new deal' as it were, or other forms that they'd love to cancel out. It's quite scary if you read their site for what the 'Great Reset' entails. Digital ID, Vaccine Passports, a social credit system, and smart cities. I wouldn't be surprised if Tim loves the idea as Bill Gates does.

For me, a simple question is in order. For all those who claim the hash system is acceptable, safe, indeed a moral and societal necessity then using Apple technology in cars to report speeding is also acceptable.

After all, approximately 40,000 people die and over 4 million require significant medical care annually. Compound those numbers with grieving families and friends, and I assume more are impacted than by CSAM.

Apple can and does track routes, and knows when someone is speeding if its technology is in a vehicle. So, if with the introduction of iOS16 Apple starts reporting speeders to the police, obviously with an Apple employee reviewing the data, ALL of those in favour of the CSAM would accept this.

So, supporters of CSAM technology, would you support this? Yes, or no?

A simple question.
