Am I the only one that shops where ever the closest place is, without trying to research their payment options?
Everyplace I go virtually accepts apple pay, except Walmart and there I pay cash for small purchases only. Most newer readers have the chip and pin (wifi symbol), meaning tap to pay. I've never payed at one of those that didn't have apple pay.

If i did that i would be over paying for 9 out of 10 items.
You've misread that, he doesn't say the lowest price options... just different payment options..

For what it's worth its absolutely hilarious that folk will boycott a shop because they don't accept a certain payment option, it's too much hassle to whip out a card.. but less hassle to drive further away and pay more to be able to use Apple pay and impress the hordes watching in the queue with their mouths open at the magical site unfolding in front of them lol

Not talking about major items. Just day to day home items (food and supplies). I’ll also always buy generic vs name brand for such items so price isn’t that bad. Just pointing out that some here are far too concerned with Apple Pay support. There’s still a ton of places that don’t support it (especially at the mall and when going to restaurants).

Lol, yeah. My thoughts exactly.

No one around here is amazed anymore with Apple Pay. It’s just here’s your receipt here you go.

Exactly. Also there are some good stuff to buy from there...so i don’t know why all the hate. I rather save money..not pay more.

Let’s be real, it’s because Wal-Mart is associated with poor people and we have a lot of classist BS going on here.

Malls I think have the most support for Apple Pay. Every store I walk into has Apple Pay (Scottsdale fashion square)

Talking about the small (non-chain) shops. Point is there are plenty of situations where Apple doesn’t work. Gas station pumps is another one that comes to mind.

Some stores still want control over data/analytics from their shoppers (like Walmart, Target and Kroger for example), others don't care so much........simple as that. Everything else just boils down to personal preferance (and that's a whole other issue unto itself).

Those are the best. Those tiny little Verifone card readers that face the cashier? Those have Apple Pay. Square? Has Apple Pay. The problem is the layman doesn’t know what to look for.

Again, POINT is that they’re rare. Restaurants don’t have them either. Sure there’ll be some rare ones that have it, but most don’t which means Apple Pay can’t be the only thing we can rely on.
Exxon also has Speedpass+ app. It has Apple Pay within the app.

I see more places that have signs saying they take WeChat pay than Apple pay in my area

Doesn’t matter if the device is ApplePay capable if the shop doesn’t accept it (ie, Walmart which has NFC capable readers everywhere, but accept/use them nowhere).

Walmart is obviously different. But the little stores do accept it if they have the right equipment. Now some employees may just not know how to run it (in which case tell them it’s the same as a regular card) and they just lie to the customer and say they don’t take it to move the line along., in which case I call them out on their lies and usually walk out with free gift cards from the manager instead.

Look into the Verifone Vx520, and Ingenico iCT250 these are the most popular “small store” card readers- both with Apple Pay enabled.

Not saying everyone should put up a fight but knowledge is power isn’t it. I Don’t put up with liars.

You sure make a lot of assumptions. If someone tells me they don't take it, then I swipe my card and move on. Not going to accuse anyone of lying or not doing their job. It’s simply not that serious.

Ive been in many situations where they have just *LIED* simply because they don't know how to run it. But for you to say that these small stores don't have Apple Pay is inaccurate. Apple Pay is everywhere. Now of course in most cases, they do have it, and in most cases its no trouble at all. Its one off instances where they lie because they don't know what they're doing.

AGAIN, you seem to assume to know what’s going on in other peoples heads.

Is old fashioned cash or bank cards not cool enough anymore....

I use my card way more then Apple Pay. It’s too easy to do as I don’t have to think about wether the terminal in front of me accepts Apple Pay or not. I know with 100% certainty that my card will be accepted.

It’s not that they’re not cool. It’s just pockets seem to be at a premium now. I do what I can to not carry as much stuff with me. Among other things I’ve done, a Viper SmartStart to start the car and a garage door controller to open from the phone.

Can we make this a weekly feature, where MacRumors shames B&M stores that don't accept Apple Pay? (Publix, Kroger, Lowes, Home Depot, etc)

Then you'd have to shame them all. Because the vast majority of stores don't accept Apple Pay. let's not confuse NFC with Apple Pay. The promise of Apple Pay was that it would be treated as a non-NFC payment, not subject to the $$ limit of typical NFC. That is not supported in most stores. Sure, I can use my phone or my watch to pay instead of my card, but I'll still be subject to those limits.
[doublepost=1543159011][/doublepost]
That's depends on how much you spend. Anything over 100 dollars (here in Canada) will still requires you use chip card. A trip to Costco can easily over that 100 dollar limit.

Costco's NFC limit is higher because of that. It's at least $200.

US Contactless has no limit. I tapped my card for a $500 car repair bill. That was the physical card too, not an iPhone.

No. Costco’s NFC limit is 200 for Capital One Costco MasterCard. All other MasterCard or debit cards limit are 100

Interesting I never knew Costco has adopted Apple Pay since August. I'll have to check next time I go.
