OLED is junk. Not sure why people like it. It suffers burn-in like crazy. It's crap, but it looks good.

WiFi 7 is not the end of the world. Most people still do not have decent internet, and in the UK, the average is only 30 Mbps.

I have 1 Gbps internet, and still can't max out my WiFi 6 connection with it.

If absolute speed (and let's not forget latency!) matter, then you'd be wired - no question.

Not sure what the problem is.
The problem is paying 4000 to 5000 €/$/£ for a M4 Max MacBook Pro and not getting WiFi 7

I will give 200$ to anyone who has sold his WiFi 6(!!) router for a new WiFi 7 device.

(Mine is still a WiFi 5 from 2021)

Do I get also some money if I upgraded to WiFi 6 and don't need it? 🥺 I didn't even sell my old WiFi 5 router and need the money even more. I rather keep it. Since a Thunderstorm killed my router about 12 years ago it's always better to have a second one.

I wonder if the MacBook Air M4 will get Wi-Fi 7 (if it gets released in late-winter/early-spring 2025).

Why don't they just release it today? 🤔

I hope the new Studio will be released soon, because the Mini in my wished configuration could be the same price.

Why don’t they put 5g/esim in MacBook pros?
Ok but can someone explain to me how Laptops still don’t have a mobile data chip for 5G in 2024?

Because it's expensive for limited benefit. Most people already have a phone and can hotspot to that. Do you really want to pay for another mobile SIM/subscription?

But then again, with the new Apple baseband chip coming soon, who knows? Maybe they'll finally do it!

Why are they offering it for iPads then? It could also be optional.

Might be different where you live but here you sometimes just get four SIM cards for one contract for free if you want and can use them all at once.

Also plans for data only SIMs are much cheaper than phone SIM cards.

But there are also cellular modem sticks. I hope they got smaller in the meantime and just work with a Mac. I'll just buy a cheap one and try it. It's always good to have a fallback. I could get a card without contract for it and just charge it with money when I need it. Or just put one of many lying around prepaid phone cards in it.

I have a SIM card that is completely free with 250MB every month and I only charged it once with €10 because I needed to write some SMS the many years before and after that I never paid a single cent for it. Even the shipping costs were free when they sent it to me. That's my main iPhone card at the moment again because I am mostly at home. It's even unlimited data but after the 250MB is used it's 64Kbit I think. ;)

They sent very rarely SMS ads in the first years and the email ads that seemed to fund it mostly went to an address that I didn't use anymore and also doesn't exist anymore since a long time. They don't send ads to the new one I entered. Maybe they have enough paying customers now too.

I just wanted to say that card isn't good for tethering with my Mac if I have an Internet blackout. But I could buy a data package if I put some more money on it.

I always use Ethernet on stationary devices, so not a big problem for Mac Mini and iMac imho. MacBook Pro however…somewhat of a bummer. Oh well, if you really need WiFi 7, I guess you can hold out for the next release, it will most likely have it

Yeah this. One of the reasons I want to go back to a desktop is ethernet. WiFi is bloody terrible. I live in a large apartment estate and there are so many APs it's unusable sometimes.

I sometimes even use Ethernet for my iPhone. WiFi is turned off for the most time of the day. Because I am doing almost everything on my Mac.

It’s shocking and it’s about time the macs come with LTE 5g
They don’t do that because they have to pay Qualcomm a percentage of the entire product cost if they use their chips. It’s why the price increase for iPads with cellular is so high. This won’t happen until their own chips are ready for consumer use.

I wonder how many end users actually have a WiFi 7-capable router? It generally takes years for routers to be upgraded.

I wonder how many end users have an internet connection capable of supporting the full bandwidth offered by WiFi 7?

When it comes to networking, there are many, many factors involved, not just the edge connection. Chances are that Apple has done this research and determined that most users would not be taking advantage of the more expensive WiFi 7 capabilities, and those that need it are often plugging in a hub that has an Ethernet connection.

Not the end of the world for things like this. 99% of users likely wouldn't notice the difference. WiFi 7 is very new.
I recently upgraded to the eero 6e system. I only have 1gbps speeds and the price for a WiFi 7 system is to high. They will probably be on a new so c by the time I upgrade again

In some homes the Mac and router aren’t close and running Ethernet lines is impractical.
Please tell me where I said wireless wasn’t an option?
Pretty sure I said wired is a better option, not the only option.

They don’t want to pay Qualcomm the large percentage they get from every device with their cellular chip. Macs can cost substantially more then an iPhone those royalties aren’t cheap

There are several 4G USB-Sticks for about 15-30€ on Amazon. 5G is rare somehow. But most people here use only 4G anyway. I just found expensive 5G routers with a quick look.

Isn't internal normally not even cheaper than external?

But it's not only Apple. There are some Laptops with cellular, but not many.

That is disappointing not to have 7. I recently upgraded my WiFi 6e system to WiFi 7 when Amazon had its last Prime Day. I picked up TP-Link routers for 53% off. WiFi 7 is a major improvement over WiFi 6e even if a device doesn’t support 7. On my previous system, my iPad with 6e would get about 400Mbps over the Internet (I have a 1.2Gbps plan). With 7, that same iPad gets a tiny bit over 1Gbps. The range is also improved with the far corners of the house getting improved reception. We have only one WiFi 7 device on the network, which gets 1.4Gbps Internet speed, the same I get for wired Ethernet. As an aside, my max speed is supposed to be 1.2Gbps, but I guess I’ll take 1.4Gbps.

I don’t have anything to test internal network speed, though I do have a 2.5Gbps network. I’m guessing a WiFi 7 device would be able to reach that fairly easily since YouTubers report getting 7-9Gbps internally with their devices.

Fortunately, I don’t plan to upgrade so it won’t matter. I already have an M3 Max machine and an M4 Max just wouldn’t be worth the expense.
I updated my routers during this sale as wells unfortunately it really made no difference in speed and I feel like I lost range from my old eero 5s

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised considering they released the Vision Pro with only WiFi 6 and it relies so much on WiFi… and they released HomePods with wireless N🙄🙄🙄

I almost bought that one too on Prime Day, but I upgraded to 6E just a few months before. And decided to wait until I have a faster Internet line. Because the first upgrade already didn't make a difference. But I was attempted to try a different brand. I always had FRITZ!Boxes for many years and I am looking for a Router that might have better options to use third party firmware.

My Ethernet cables are now all 40Gbit/s. I don't know for what those even exist, but they were not much more expensive than 1 or 10GBit. 🤔

Oh no, no WiFi 7 because I have 48 Gb/s switches and Ethernet adapters in my servers what do I do now…

WiFi 7 is mainly fun for stuff that needs extremely low latency like VR equipment, not for internet/data transfer. It doesn’t yet have practical use for users over WiFi 6E. If you think you need WiFi 7 for a device like this, then you’ve already put fiber throughout your home and will just use cable anyway because wireless will then never be good enough for you and money is no object.

If you had 6E and upgraded to 7 and notice a difference, you simply have no idea what you’re doing. No one with a degree in network technology would experience the same. Should have looked at placement and band usage and gotten proper equipment instead.
