Consider that if your 13 has an higher resolution than the X, it's possible that some images appear "sharper" on the X screen, just like my 8 is sharper than my 13 Pro when I look at Instagram posts. This must be particularly true with the Max, as it's just like the 13 and Pro, just bigger
Or if you haven't changed the background, that it's blurrier since it's being stretched to fill the new, larger screen.

I just got my iphone 13, and I hate the screen. I have been using iphone X for 4 years. I have never hold any other iphone during this time. And now when I got the 13, I'm so disappointed! It feels inferior to iphone X. I compare the screens side by side and the 13 screen looks, weird. When I read texts etc on the screen, its like the text is bleeding somewhat? It looks a bit blurry? Something is seriously wrong with the glass Apple has used on iphone 13!

Also the feel of the phone in ones hand is bad aswell, I hate it so much! The design of the phone is so, flat. The iphone 5SE was flat like this but that was a small phone, the 13 is so much bigger and the flat design/screen just does not look or feel good, how did they even believe this was a good idea?!

I was suppose to give away my Iphone X to my mom (she is on iphone 5SE). But now I have doubts. Either I have to return this 13, or give it to my mom. All my dreams of a newer phone is shattered?

I felt the same way. Ended up returning it and stuck with my iPhone 7. I'll probably end up getting the new SE when it comes out.

I came to the 13 from a 7 Plus and have had no issue with the display, but I also switched from a matte/anti-glare plastic protector to a glossy tempered glass one so that might by part of it. I've had no brightness problems, and certainly nothing wrong with the sharpness—maybe you got a bad unit and just need to get it replaced?

Gotta disagree with you on the design though, the flat sides are a million times better than the rounded design IMO. So much easier to hold.

If I had one complaint, it would be the insane post-processing they do on photos. It really ruins a lot of the shots I take with this phone and there seems to be no way to turn it off.

What's wrong with the X? I have mine for over 4 years now. I went to the store multiple times, checked the 13 and said mehhhh... will keep the X for as long as it works. Yes, the camera may better, etc. but the X is a solid phone even in 2022.

Have I previously participated on this thread? No? Ok

If I had encountered a thread like this one during my first few days of having the 13 mini, I would have agreed, because I am so used to IPS LCD screens, that the change was noticeable (specially, that green tint when shifting the angle).

However, after several weeks of use, I can say it is one of the best screens I’ve ever had, and I want the same technology on my iPad Pro. Even on the MacBooks.

It is a different technology, and it takes a bit of time to get used to its colors, but if the PMW doesn’t affect you (I didn’t notice anything), I think it is vastly superior, for color reproduction, black accuracy, and the low power consumption that this panels from the 13 lineup have.

If your experience is very negative, just ask for an exchange, because maybe it is defective, is all I can say

Never was impressed with iOS screens I have the 11 max and the screen isn’t all that compared to Samsung maybe I’m just use to how Samsung phone basically look darker but more colorfully.

That is such a catastrophically sad start to the new year. Looks like Apple lost a customer if they do not improve their screen to how it was with the X. They keep tweaking and tweaking. If an average customer can feel the difference, I wonder what Jobs and Ive would have felt. One of them is six feet under, and ought to be spinnin' like a high-speed rotational disk!

Now, that said, I assume you know that screens can look wildly different owing to the base color temperatures they are set at in factory and if True Tone is enabled or not, and even so, how True Tone is configured? If memory serves me right, 12/13 series had some issue with color temperature and True Tone, that might or might not have been resolved. Also, the 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio difference between the two (1,000,000:1 on X and 2,000,000:1 on 13) ought to make its presence felt, no? Plus HDR.

Yes, increase the contrast and colors pop, but image is no longer natural. But, at first glance, that pop is addictively attractive.

I understand what you are saying, although, my problem was/is not about the tones at all, I see a a weird "cast" (fuzzyness, ghosting many names) looking at the screen, strains my eyes and almost made my dizzy at first, I had my X on side by side and thats how I was certain, along with the 13 being very much more reflective then the X. However I will just sign it off as a quirk of the 13s screen, glass or whatever (and the excess reflectiveness is now gone after I put a zagg shield on it, yay).

I am not alone I have seen similar complaints when I googled it, about the cast.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I need to learn more about the tech behind our screens!

Edit; I forgot to say that I really appreciate the humore aswell lol!?

Yes I loove my Iphone X! Four years old but battery still on 90% and I have dropped so many times on asphalt (1 meters hight), no cracks no nothing! It does not even have a screen protector (many micro scratches though).

My mom is on Iphone 5SE that seems to be loosing some of the supports on some of her apps IOS wise, not sure. But she asked if she can get my X if I am gonna get a new phone, as she did not wanna get a brand new phone herself (she is clumsy plus my niece drops her phone from time to time during visits). I thought, since my phone is in great shape, she should enjoy it before the phone dropps to much in performance. I believe it has atleast 2-3 years more to give! Maybe even more! Lol sorry for my long reply with totally trivial info? but there you got it

Yes it is I believe due to the high saturation Samsung screens has (as macintoshmac also pointed out). As a photographer I like more neutral colours as a baseline

Thank you! I'm really glad for every input! What is PMW? Never saw that in text before?
I have started to see the good sides of the screen now when I have been using the phone for two days and have putten a zagg shield on it. I do enjoy the phones form now!:p I'm a lot on insta for my account (photographer) and its so much nicer screen format for scrolling down on insta or looking through galleries.
Yes I have to learn more about the tech behind these screens, maybe I will be able to pinpoint what exactly my eyes were reacting on! Maybe it is a default. Come to think of it I have a friend who has the 12, I will compare the 12, 13 and the X side by side to see if its just my phone (Nearest Apple store is too far away)

Its not disturbing me as much now, I have accepted it

There is nothing else for me at this point. I'm to used to iphones. So its either my X or no phone I guess.. I'm more curious if someone else have issues with the screen? It is seriously blurry and gives me an eye strain. The X is Oled screen aswell and never had any issues with it so its not Oled related
I'm still very happy with my X Max. Gave two 13s as a gift to my wife and son and see no major improvements or a reason to upgrade:)

I can definitely see what you are talking about in the pictures you posted but cannot see anything like that on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. It displays pictures sharp and with great colors, just like it should. If you have any stores near you where you can try out the iPhone 13, you can try to compare these against yours. If not, either return it or have it replaced. I personally wouldn't want to keep a phone with such a defect.

Thanks to this thread, I turned off true tone and auto-brightness. Now my 13 looks as good as my 13 mini.

I'd like to understand what differences you are noticing, and from each/which of the two setting changes.

What difference did turning off the true tone make?
And what difference did turning off auto brightness.
I'm new smartphones and am trying to understand the changes that the settings make.
I can read what the manuals and instructions for the settings say (and I have), but I'm interested in the real world visual differences they make.

I always felt the 13 was darker, harder to read, now the mini and the 13 are essentially the same to these old eyes.

The best thing i can tell you is try them out. Everybody sees things their own way. For me, turning off the auto brightness and true tone made the difference. They may, or may not, work for you.

What you are describing sounds like what PWM does to some people. It might be that on the 13 its a frequency that gets to you whereas on X it doesn't. Let's do some experiments if possible for you - how does the 12 fare? Is that screen easy on your eyes?

I was finally able to figure out what PMW stands for (google) and yes! I was thinking to my self it seems like a "flickering" aswell, more noticeble in a dark room. Does this mean a 13 "pulsates faster/more often then a X?

I don't have a 12 in house but I have a friend who has one, I have to wait for her visit or me visiting her to check our phones side by side
