WiFi 6E is a worthy upgrade on its own. This will be a huge productivity boost for all MacBook Pro users.
We have devolo wifi 6 power adapters and they work perfectly , but for the last 12 years we've been stuck with copper lines for our broadband with only 50 mbps.

However in the next 2 months or so we are having full fibre broadband fitted with 500 mbps so im sure that would make any recent Mac feel faster.

Even in graphics? let’s see. Nvidia rules the roost, not to mention CUDA. 4090 laptop will likely be just slightly slower than a 4080/4070 Ti desktop. Will be amazed if the M2 Max gets close, but lets see. Granted, the 16in MBP will be half as thick as a 4090 laptop.
and have 2-3x battery life, and run 50% cooler. Even the 140 watt power brick is 1/2 the size.

Even if the Mx approaches that speed on benchmarks, in the real world it's different - if your workload isn't built natively on metal, but has native support for Nvidia or even AMD on windows, it'll run circles around the mac.

In my experience, most devices can't seem to stay on 6GHz, but fall back to 5GHz. I have a 6e network at home and my 6e devices never seem to want to use the 6GHz band. Do you have a different experience? I'm curious whether it's just me or if others have the same problem.

My house is very wifi hostile with lots of metal in the walls. Despite the house size warranting only a single access point, I have six access points. Even in the open less than 10 feet from the nearest access point, I can't maintain 6GHz on any device. I'll see the indicators flash 6e, then revert to 6.

Oddly enough, the only feature I'd look forward to is whether the HDMI port supports 2.1 or whether it's still 2.0. It's not something most people would care about, but the limitation of 60Hz is irritating.

Having dropped a lung on my mac studio, I'm no urge for a shopping spree, however I'm curious to see these updated chips.

Meanwhile, to this day, the intel mac mini lives on.
I'd really like apple to redesign the mac mini; something a little more creative.
I think presence of the Mac Studio suggests that Apple plans to keep the Mini design the same. Is there really any need for a new design? Some people have asked for an Apple TV sized device but that would compromise the functionality without providing much benefit.

I wouldn't have minded seeing a smaller Mac mini the size of an AppleTV. While the current case is fine, it's way too big for the innards with lots of wasted space. I can see why they'll probably keep it the same so Mac minis and Studios can stack on top of each other, but it seems like they could save a lot of space by making it a lot smaller. This is where Apple will probably err on the side of form over function whereas they've been putting function over form in their other products lately.

Pretty sure home 6E is close range only. I only get 6Ghz connection from my iPad Pro and Gaming Laptop when I’m on the couch 8 feet from my router. Any further than that and it changes to the 5Ghz band always.

Looking at today’s news I may have been wrong about Apple not wanting to do the work to to add HDMI 2.1 support. I will be interested in seeing how they did it.
Well, the official announcement said "Better than HDMI 2.0" so maybe they did some trickery!

But yes - we shall see eventually when these machines are in the hands of reviewers!

If they shrunk it to ATV size they'd have to lose most of the ports and that would be a downgrade. It's also got enough cooling for the M2 Pro chips. I think the Mini is good as it is.

I’m happy with the new M2. I picked up a 16” Max 64GB 2TB and two Apple Studio Displays. I’ll use it in clamshell most of the time unless I can find a way that it works well on it’s own but I think the two displays will be sufficient. Should be here first part of Feb. Hope the displays arrive intact. North Pole AK is often a challenge for even the best packed glass.
