Here's one problem though: Which MacBook Pro is getting updated this week? The only MacBook Pro listed in this Canadian database is A2779. The various sizes of MacBook Pros in the past have their own unique model #.

Current models:
A2442 - MacBook Pro 14"
A2485 - MacBook Pro 16”

Are we getting 16" only perhaps?

So good to finally adopt Wi-Fi 6E when Wi-Fi 7 is almost ready.
I have decided to update my home Wi-Fi to Wi-Fi 7 this year and skip right over 6E. Apple should do the same except that there are no Wi-Fi chips to support it now. It doesn’t even officially come out for quite a while now. But at least one manufacturer (TP-Link) is releasing it in access points now. And I am going to have one, so that I have have to change it for some time now.

I thought they went back to 2*2 from 3*3 because increased interference made performance worse unless you were line-of-sight with the router
hmm or maybe they're just too lazy to implement a different wifi modem than that of the iphone's a14/15 lol

my previous lenovo laptop (600$) was reaching 1400mB/s , my ex mbp 16" (2700$) couldn't cross 800mb/s

but yeah i have the router in my room

Granted, Intel and AMD have released impressive products [including the 13th Gen mobile at CES], Apple will always have the upper hand on

1. General TDP
2. Unified RAM speeds [DDR6 at 6000Mhz]
2. SSD Speeds
3. Heat management
4. Throttle management
5. SOo much More.

As much as I do love the new 13th Gen Laptops with RTX 4090 mobile, the MacBook Pro 16 with M2 Max will still outperform.

"always" is a long time

I am still on the last intel edition of MacBook Pro 13'. Will wait until M5 hits the market. And 1 nm!

I am waiting on this announcement. I’m not in a hurry but I’m ready. I expect there will be a reasonable price increase. If the MBP goes to 3nm then I’ll go for it for sure for the better battery life etc but if it remains 5 (fake 4) then I will have to either save ( I assume) a few bucks on a quick purchase of an M1 or get the M2 if they can convince me it’s worth the cost.

Speed is only one part of the puzzle, I would argue latency and dropped packets are more important towards making things like web browsing feel faster and video conferencing a better experience

If the MBP goes to 3nm then I’ll go for it
it will absolutely not, and if it’s an ounce tomorrow, it especially absolutely will not.
Please people, read the date on this article.
December 30th.
3 nm production officially began around December 30.
That doesn’t mean Apple’s 3NM products went into production around December 30.
That means a process that affects one component of Apple‘s entire computer went into production.
Expecting Apple to have 3NM PRODUCTS all built in the millions, tested, submitted for filings and regulatory approval, and ready to go in 17 days is just simply impossible.
Expecting 3 nm things to be ready by March is close to impossible.
5NM went into production back in April 2020. Apple didn’t release new products with it until October. Six full months later. And the first product with it? The iPhone, of course.
The MacBook Pro wouldn’t get it until October 2021, 18 months after it began production.
It’s certainly not gonna get 3 nm in 17 days.
The iPhone goes into mass production around April/May, obviously it’s going to be the first product with 3 nm.
It’s their biggest product, it’s their most famous product, it’s their best selling product, it’s their most profitable product, and it was also the first product to get both 7 nm in 2018 and 5 nm in 2020.
Also the iPhone has the most to gain from the efficiency brought on by 3 nm.
The 16 inch 2021 MacBook Pro already gets close to 24 hour battery life.

I agree and unfortunately if it is a very minor spec update, the chances are high that the connectors will not be updated. Especially since Apple shipped the Apple TV 4k (Oct `22) with hdmi 2.0 support considering HDMI is the primary connector there.
The Apple TV 4K (3rd Gen 2022) did indeed ship with HDMI 2.1...as did the Apple TV4K (2nd Gen 2021). I think it's a good bet that the updated MBPs will have HDMI 2.1.

With regards to #2 (wait...which #2?)...the one regarding the SSD, I'd say SSD speeds in Windows machines are just as fast (with the fastest around 7000+ MB/s. And, they're cheap. $120 for a Samsung Pro 980 1TB.

Im nearly 37 years old and its been 20+ years since I got excited for Christmas, seeing the last couple of post about tomorrow has made me feel like im 10 years old again on Christmas Eve,
Your only gonna be let down by something so minor the press releases are kinda not worth it imo

I've been holding off on getting a new laptop till they launched one with 6E (I'm not even kidding, I have my 6E network set-up and ready to go).

I’m switching from intel and just got new work that starts mid February so it’ll be totally worth it for many of us. I also am very excited for the news tomorrow
