I cringe every time I hear some one say the beats by dr. dre are quality headphones.

Seriously, bass isn't everything people. I want to be able to hear all the ranges in my music. I rarely use headphones anyway, but I was pleased with the new earpods for it quality in sound and definitely in the improved comfort factor. I have yet to actually take a call with them though so I'm not sure how they sound in that aspect.

Used the Apple pods in the first 3G I had. Never again.
Apple aren't audio specialists so you can expect an average sound. Their pods aren't awful by any means. They're average. If you want something that will give high performance I have the Sennheiser MM50 ip Sound Isolating earbuds.
They deliver excellent bass, have a mic for taking phone calls and do a very good job of cancelling out external sounds, so great if you're on a noisy plane or train trip.

They even come with 3 different sized earphone surrounds so you can pick the best ones to fit your own ears.

They're also only £40, so if you do lose them whilst travelling, it's not the end of the world.

I love mine. Wouldn't be without them

Really? Complaining about stock apple ear phones? Lol. Did you really expect noise canceling earphones? Seriously, the headphones are multi purposed for taking calls and being able to listen to media when needed. They aren't beats by dre. If you want bass, dish out for some beats. :)

I have prefer to not have noise canceling headphones on when I'm on the phone because I can still hear my surroundings. Talking to someone on a noise cancellation headset makes me feel like I'm deaf and not aware of anything around me.

An HTC (and some other droid phone) has Beats By Dr. Dre with it's bundle, that's why I'm complaining about stock Apple ear phones. Yes, I'm expecting more than this, and yes, I'm expecting Apple to be the best. Not this, this is unacceptable.

IMO, I listen to music... For the joy of listening to music.

Really don't see why people have to be so technical about bass/EQ/ranges etc etc etc. Yes, I know, to 'appreciate' it better, you would need HQ headphones - but the stock earpod ones aren't THAT bad. I mean, I dont know what kind of music you guys listen to but for the genres I enjoy, it covers them very well. Bass isn't the be-all-and-end-all of the situation.

Meh.

I heard they aren't as good as wired, that isn't an option for me.

I don't use Bluetooth headphones but I do use a Bluetooth adapter with my B&W P5's and there is no difference between using them with or without the adapter.

I don't bother buying aftermarket ear buds. Waste of money as far as I am concerned, and the Earpods are a huge upgrade, so I am pleased.

You must have pretty low expectations then as bundled headphones are always very poor compared to a decent set bought separately.

Too little bass. I need to turn up the equalizer to make me dance. When I turn off the equalizer, though, I feel like I'm listening to cheap earphones.

In layman's terms, it's not good enough. The beats (not the headphones) aren't really booming.

And did I mention how horrible it sounds in public with noise? They aren't even trying to isolate the noise.

They should have taken Apple's In-Ear, boost the bass a lot, then bundle it. That's just perfect.

What are your thoughts?

They ARE cheap headphones. Sorry you had higher expectations from an entry level product as the Apple headphones are.

Unacceptable? As in you're returning the iPhone and getting an HTC? Just wondering how deep your level of commitment really is. Talk is cheap just like the Apple earphones are! :)

The earbuds are great for something thrown in with the phone. But I agree, people actually use these things? ; ) I use Bose IE2's myself, the difference in audio quality from a cheap pair of buds is staggering, and the little earclip that comes with the Bose make them the most comfortable buds you can find.

not everyone listens to dubsteb and wants dr dres headphones. boom boom boomm boom boom.

The quality of these are so much better than the last. doesnt sound muffled or monophonic.
works for me.

I'm not getting an HTC. The iPhone 5 will always be the best. I'm just disappointed, that's all. They should have gotten better stock earphones.

Still makes a better stock earphones than EarPods.

I am a part time sound engineer so sound is important to me so I got some Grado GR10s. Not cheap but very good all around sound and bass thanks to the moving armature.

Finally, a Pro Audiophile! Now tell me how horrible EarPods are, so these people would know.

I absolutely agree with this statement. I believe the old ones were borderline usable (if not simply bad), while the new ones I'd say are "pretty good", especially for being bundled with a smartphone.

And I'm glad they didn't include the in-ear ones. In-ear earphones for some reason don't work with my ears :). Normally I use Sennheiser MX 980 earphones which I carry around all day. But I must say, these EarPods get pretty damn close to what the Sennheisers are. I'm impressed.

Oh, and Dr Dres? No thank you.

I think the new earpods are WAY better than the old buds. I'm no 20 something that has hours on end to just listen to music, so perhaps I'm not the typical user, but for the couple of songs I tried the new earpods with, I thought they actually sounded good. I'm still not going to use them much, other than for when my era bt headset dies during the day (when used for calls, not music) or perhaps on the plane listening to music or movies and in these cases I'm glad Apple did improve on the old (which never stayed in my ears).

Yes, not everyone want a BOOM BOOM BOOM, but at least add some BASS with the EarPods. I can't even hear a beat. They should make it stronger, even just a bit.

And some good cases too, the ones it comes with sucks. It's so hard to put it in there.

And some noise isolation! I can barely hear my song when I'm in a noisy environment.

Hmm. At this point I'm starting to think that these EarPods don't fit everyone's ears (just like the In-Ears don't fit mine). Because I certainly hear a lot of bass with the EarPods. But if I move them even slightly out of place, the bass is gone. Couldn't it simply be a positioning or "ear compatibility" issue?

OH GOD, YOU'RE RIGHT!

I pushed the EarPods a bit more into my ears and I can hear beautiful bass everywhere! There is even a point where equalizers can have too much bass (too much bass, I never thought I'd say that).

But there's a complaint right away:
They should totally make In-ear to avoid this problem again.

Have you tried the new jaybird freedom headphones? They're apparently smaller which was a complaint I had with the originals.

I saw them but the battery life is I think 3.5-4 hrs which I didn't like. I don't mind the bulk in the ones I have now.

I don't think I have ever actually used the apple headphones. I stick them in my gym bag for the day I forget my real headphones. I have had bang and olufson headphones for about 4 or 5 years that I love. They stay in my ear when I go running and the sound is good. The wires are strong and the headphones are in as good condition as when I bought them:

I also have these Monster Turbines in-ear that I use on the airplane or when I am not moving a lot. I picked them up for about $60 two years ago and I really like the sound:

Last, I bought the s4i a few months ago, but I am not impressed.

I think the EarPods pretty good. Definitely good enough for me to use.

I can't stand in ear headphones. Whenever I put those in I can hear every movement I make. Like if I move my arm or swallow, I can hear it loudly in my ears. It's weird and creeps me out lol.

Wirelessly posted

Lol @ Bose and Beats in the context used in this thread.

It's like telling someone who only eats at McDonald's that you eat at Applebee's and considering yourself sophisticated as a result.
