I use Skype a lot, so I'm right now restoring to 4.1 using Tiny Umbrella, and then I'll update to 4.2.1, install Skype first, and then jailbreak again.

Will report back soon...

How do you keep your baseband at 1.59.00 after all the restoring back to 4.1 and 4.0.1 and stuff like that?

Making sure to run Tiny Umbrella's TSS server. You can then restore to 4.0 and 4.0.1.

Update - now at 4.1 again with 01.59.00.

Installing Skype and upgrading to 4.2. Report back shortly. :)

I was going to smash my iPhone 4 if I didn't upgrade to 4.2.1 because of my proximity sensor issues.

All of what you wrote is why my first question to j0nblayz is, "Why do you want to upgrade to 4.2.1?"

BT was fixed, but the Skype issue is not fixed, it's a hokey workaround as is the iBooks 'fix', i.e., don't use the current version of iBooks. That's why people have to be very careful when someone says "iBooks is fixed." Too often it's because they are using the older version of iBooks or they have not tried with a DRM protected book.

Well, we'll see what happens with Skype. Currently in process of upgrading to 4.2.1 again from 4.1 01.59.00.

Hope it works! :D

I can report that Skype now works on 4.2.1 at 01.59.00. :)

You really do just need to make sure you install Skype before the jailbreak. I installed Skype at 4.1, then updated to 4.2.1 and jailbroke, and it still works. :) You can probably install Skype at 4.2.1, but I did it earlier. W00t! :)

Thanks for the tip!

But how are you keeping your baseband?

When you get on 4.1 do you simply "upgrade" 4.2.1 and get the error (1013) then have tiny umbrella kick you out of recovery mode?

I know updating to 4.2.1 keeps 1.59 baseband only with the iPhone 4 NOT restoring.

Yes, I simply "update" (not restore) to 4.2.1 from 4.1 01.59.00, get the 1013 error, and then load Tiny Umbrella to kick it out of recovery.

When you downgrade to 4.1 from 4.2.1, you start Tiny Umbrella, start TSS server, put iPhone into DFU mode, then option/shift + click restore and point it to a clean version of 4.1? How does the downgrade process work?

To downgrade, I was sure to start Tiny Umbrella, start TSS Server, and then just hold down ALT and click Restore so I can pick 4.1. My phone wasn't in DFU mode at all. Just sitting on the home screen.

But you really want to, as far as I'm aware, make sure TSS Server is running before you Restore to 4.1.

All right, I'll see if I want to downgrade. I don't use skype or iBooks (for books anyways) so I don't think I'll go through the hassle of restoring and what not. Thanks for all the help and I want to know if you try reading the winnie the pooh book, does it give you an error? It gives me an error when I try to open it.

Give me a sec. I'll load iBooks and try it...

"There is a problem with the configuration of your iPhone. Please restore with iTunes and reinstall iBooks."

So I guess it doesn't work for me, either. :)

Not that I care. Reading books on my phone? No thanks!

Exactly, and even opening PDF's from e-mails in iBooks is a pain. When I load it into my e-mail all the pages are ready to be looked at (i can't think of the word) but when I load them in iBooks each page has to wait to be completed so it's not blurry and only 3 can be looked at at one time. For example, you load the first 3 pages and you can go back and forth between them without the text being blurry but when you go to that 4th page you'll have to load it. Once that 4th page is loaded, page 1 isn't so you'll have to reload it. I think iBooks isn't all that great especially on an iPhone so it's all good.

I need to just jailbreak my iphone 4 4.2.1...I dont care if its tethered, so were can i get the best version of redsnow to do this? Ive google searched and cant find the latest version.

it's the first link on google when you search redsn0w 0.9.7 beta 6

Some people were talking about using an OSX DVD or something like that for PC's I don't really know what that is but I think it was trying to get an untethered jailbreak for PC users using redsn0w. I could be way off though.
