Great that it will get the updated chips and hopefully a 32gb option, but disappointing it doesn't seem to be getting the 15-16" thinner bezel treatment. Still kinda hoping it does, but they weren't able to make it 14" so are staying with the 13" name even it it is say 13.85" now.
It has nothing to do with Apple not being able to make a 14" MBP. They have deliberately chosen not to for whatever reason.

My dream is a 14" MBP along the lines of the 16", with a scissor keyboard. Only other change I would wish for is an option to remove the Touch Bar, which I constantly hit by accident.

Probably in 2021. Maybe by then they'll somehow change the Touchbar to make it less annoying too.

I think Apple should make the smaller MBP with a 14" screen and leave the 13" screen size for the MBA so you'd have the following laptop lineup:

rMBA - 13"
MBP - 14" / 16"

This article is comparing a high end Intel CPU to the previous LOW END 13" Macbook Pro. The high end Macbook Pro uses an i7 - even the high end of the lower end - you can check this on the Apple store right now. So just because this i7 is faster than the older i5 is no guarantee it's faster than the older i7, and certainly no reason to say the new 13" is "12% faster". Anything's possible, but I'd be surprised if Apple put the new i7 in the slot previously taken by the lower end i5. Also notice it describes the 32GB / 2TB model as the "high end configuration" - that's only high end as of last year. If Apple follows what they did with the 16" Macbook Pro, that will now be the mid range configuration.

This would make more sense if we're talking about Apple increasing the LOW end of the 13" Macbook Pro to be 12% faster. That said, the most important thing is that a new one is coming out, likely with a scissors keyboard. It's been a LOOOONNNNNGGGGG wait... :)

I'd have to see the prices... I was thinking to get an MBA whenever my mid-2012 MBP (acquired as an Apple refurb in 2016, so on warranty through last year) finally croaks and I'm left looking at my spare, which is an old mid-2010 Macbook that was doctored to have more RAM and an SSD while its motherboard and batt were being replaced. Still thinking about the MBA, so far and may go there since not sure I could justify an MBP for my computing uses any more. But I'm still in wait mode after all those keyboard reports. I want to hear more about how newer kb designs hold up over time anyway.

"I want to hear more about how newer kb designs hold up over time anyway. "

I haven't heard a peep regarding the updated 2019 butterfly keyboards so far so they seem to be holding much better with respect to reliability.

Of course, my 16" MBP came today, just before I read this rumor. I'd love to have the guts of the 16" in the 13" size. But I guess I'll just keep the 64 gb ram and 4 tb ssd in the 16.
Nah I wouldn't sweat it too much. I can't even imagine what they would update it with this year other than just a 10th-gen processor. Maybe switch to Radeon 5700M graphics? But that's a pretty big if.

At the end of the day, your 16" SCREAMS in performance. Because I honestly think you would miss your 64 gigs of RAM, discreet GPU, and 6- or 8-core i9. No way the 13" will be even close to all that raw power. Not to mention an extra couple inches of screen real estate probably comes in handy more often than not. Only reason I'm still considering the smaller MBP is because I wouldn't be downgrading other than losing my dedicated graphics. In fact, I would see substantial improvement thanks to a more updated processor and double the RAM.

But if you're having second thoughts, you could just return it couldn't you? Or do you not have anything else to fall back on until the machine you did want was released?

Before everyone gets too excited, let's wait to see what Apple prices these new laptops.
The 16" didn't get a price hike when it was updated a few months ago, so why would this one?

I'm feeling like there's a 50/50 chance that either we see at 13/14" MBP update with the rumored March event, or we get a combined 13/14" update and 16" speedbump-style update during the WWDC keynote - promoting high-powered laptops with good keyboards to a big roomful of developers... target-rich environment.

All they have to do is put in the old keyboard and ditch the Touch Bar. I'd even be ok with getting a new MacBook Pro with 10.15 and not being able to use my 32-bit apps (I have my Mac mini for that, I just need something portable that doesn't have 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD)

15.4" => 16"
13.3" => 13.7–13.9"

So technically it's still 13" (Apple won't call it 14"), but with a bigger screen. So stop whining about 14", we will get what we want 😄

Unfortunately, no leaks = not happening. I think Apple will just update the 13" with new 10th gen intel chips and scissor keyboard. The display will remain the same.

Oh boohoo what a bummer you get that amazing laptop shortly in your possession.

I thought that's what you were supposed to do? Offer the declaration of the premise in the headline first, and then in the article explain what could or could not potentially happen regarding it.

I'm not a journalist tho lol. That's just what I've noticed in many news articles over the years. It's always been my understanding that journalists are trained to come up with the most eye-catching headline more than anything else.
But Only if the headline is accurate. By recent years I presume you mean click bait online. In saying that 80/90s UK headlines ignored the rule and were classics.

I’m in search of a new portable device , I wanted to get the Air model but it’s too outdated and expensive. Then I saw SurfaceBook 7 Pro ... I mean WoW ! A perfect touch screen and much more powerful than the current Air and Pro 13 models.
Hmmmm... I guess it depends on what you are looking for. No Thunderbolt 3 and all of the peripherals that TB3 supports makes the Surface 7 Pro not particularly pro. Looking at the processor in the Surface 7 it seems underpowered, especially when comparing it to a MacBook Pro; compared to the Surface 6 it is an improvement. The Surface does have a touch screen with some seriously large bezels, if that is what you are after; not what I am looking for in a pro machine, though. Ouch, not good on the battery life.

It also runs Windows and you are pitching on MacRumors. How much do you get paid for that plug? Just curious, I have always wondered. Maybe I will quit my day job.
