Why does anyone need a good web cam for zoom and teams it’s not like your in a meeting and you say dam that person isn’t in uhd quality lol
Does it hurt you, to let other people get access to (maybe even good quality) 1080p (25% information of UHD) instead of lousy quality 720p (1/9 the info of UHD)? You can always restrict your use-size to lowest possible quality; how about 480p, 360p or 240p, eh...?

Today 1080p camera's for notebook use may even be cheaper, than 720p (who wants that 720p crap today? Can't sell it etc. ;-) It may even be the case, that an accountant at Apple had insisted on 1080p to save cost!!

I'm old enough to remember, when SOME people did not need credit cards or mobile phones (in the good ol' NMT days) even computers had somewhat negligible use for many (and for some misers still these days - sigh ;-).

Who needs any of those new-fangled thingys?

I wonder if the people at apple really use computers? I want my iPhone front facing camera to be as good as my rear facing camera and I want my webcam to be a 4k HDR low light champ.
Maybe in about 10 years. I'm sure its on their list of features, but they just trickle those features out year by year.

Did the leaker say anything about a 15" colourful Macbook Air?

You know before the rumours ( especially coming from Kuo ) of iPhone Max ( The non-pro variant ), I always thought the next logical MacBook Air lineup would be MacBook Air 12" and the current 13" replaced with 14". This fit along with Screen Product strategy of iPhone, where the small screen being cheaper variant. And if you absolutely want large screen as in Max / 6.7", you have to buy the Pro, which is somehow the best selling iPhone Pro SKUs.

But now that Apple may bring a iPhone Max in iPhone 14 series, may be there is a chance for 16" MacBook Air. Although personally I thought smaller MacBook Air might much more sense.

Finally, the courage include a 1080p camera in 2021!

So very strange to go 1080p at this point. 720p is much thinner than 1080 and goes very against Apple's form over function prioritization over the past 3/4 decade. What's next? Adding magsafe? Or ports that most everyone uses regularly and are likely to keep using for the next 10 years?

Apple continues to fix Jony Ive’s arrogance.

Indeed. Another step in the right direction.

  • Flawed thin keyboard - fixed
  • Flawed aesthetically-symmetrical arrow keys - fixed (T-shape)
  • Cutesy design ashcan Mac Pro - fixed
  • Bendable iPhones - fixed
  • Flawed aspects borne from iOS7 - fixed (work in progress)
  • Removal of ESC key & tactile function keys - fixed
  • Unnecessary port embargo - (work in progress)

Wishlist:
  • iPhones designed for durability that also look good, and not as jewelry first and foremost
  • iPhones that one can read outdoors in the sun
  • an iPhone that retains a home button - it's really not necessary to keep removing at least one button/key every few years.
  • OS's that put intuitively and function first over blind dedication to a forced 2012 complete overhaul to follow his personal tastes
  • MacBooks that permit storage/RAM upgrades as their costs reduce

But still no face ID? I really don't underatand why it wasn't put in the macbooks years ago... unless it's because they'd have to make the screen thixker to fix the sensors, and we all know how much apple likes their products to be as thin as possible...

Why do apples most expensive products(macs) get the most garbage parts? All of these things should be 4k with Face ID as of years ago. Touch ID is a dumb thing to add to computers at this point in time

Remember Tim was in procurement before at Compaq. Master at gobbling up massively discounted borderline quality webcams that were sub HD quality and barely acceptable by today standards. Takes a while to get rid of that inventory. Now finally we reach 1080p years too late which Apple will claim is "our best yet" new mega detail ultra clear revolutionary retina webcam never seen before in a Mac.....but ...but....so late to the party ......and the guys at Redmond already have a better webcam....but unfortunately no MacOS so Tim gets away with it....another massive high volume low cost purchase not using the latest gen tech most likely. Master inventory controller indeed.

Yup, and I want a landscape webcam on my iPad. The portrait one on the latest version is a big step backwards for faceid compared to the previous one. You have to look directly at the camera instead of the center of the screen, and even then it complains about being covered (when it isn't).

The reason for not having this sooner is due to thinness of the screen. If this is true, either they found a way to solve this, or the lid is thicker (possibly due to rumored MiniLED display like the one found on new 12.9” iPad Pros)
Some part of you has to know this is BS, yeah? Apple has effectively used the exact same part for 6 years now. 6 years. How much have iPhones advanced in 6 years? How much more power has been packed into their relatively unchanged frames since the move to the X form factor? How much more powerful have their cameras become with each iteration?
No, "thinness" is just the scape goat. Lack of priority until 2020 is the reason Mac users still look like anthropomorphic potatoes in 2021.

welcome to 2021..because not many laptops have 1080p camera..so your comment is wrong and makes no sense
Not at Apple's price range tough.....most have full HD camera. Look at the Specs of a 2015 Surface Pro 4 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...features-e3a8ac71-4cee-9107-23bc-7bd08d47cf75

EDIT: In all fairness, I kept looking at the specs and indeed the Surface Laptop, which has a comparable lid, also has a 720p camera.

so indeed, space to fit a 1080p camera might be the challenge

Please list the services where you stream your webcam in 1080p. I'll wait.

Hint: none.

I fully understand you could conceivably use webcam for local recording, but people doing serious recording aren't using a built-in camera. The webcam is for streaming, and most streaming services are going to flux between 240p and 720p at an absolutely maximum.

I'm all for having a better image quality (better sensor, more light), but 1080p resolution specifically is absolutely meaningless for Facetime and all of your other video conferencing.

Sincerely,
Senior Developer for a major video conferencing company
