i remember wondering how microsoft's marketing division could come up with such a bureaucratic name like "Windows XP Professional SP 2 Tablet PC edition 2005"...
When Apple instead had such a cool name "Mac OS X Snow Leopard".

Then finally it happened to Apple too.. bit by bit.

There's no chance Apple will use this branding. None.
It doesn't matter anyway this is the high-end smartphone everyone will desire and aspire to own. It will be the best iPhone Apple has ever made.

Yeah, cause the Quadra 660av as such an elegant name during his days. The IIvx, IIci, IIsi, IIfx, IIvi, IIx, IIcx..... all such elegant names that really distinguished them apart.

Quadra is latin and IIvx, IIci, IIsi, IIfx, IIvi, IIx, IIcx are roman numerals and are indeed used in a more formal/elegant context.

"Max" is cheap, sounds like a gatorade flavor or a large-sized chip bag. Which is not necessarily bad if it wasn't for the fact these things are sold in the $1000 range. They deserve a better name.

Personally I love the Xs or excess. When the TV spots roll and we tumbling, glittering, shiny gold phones we will know they are 100% embracing the Excess aspect of it.

Anyone who doubts Apple isn't spending millions on marketing research measuring the viability and potential outcomes of these names is kidding themselves.

The 6s and 7's will be gone....the 8 will stay.
And the LCD will be called 9

Apart from the price drop being way too good to be true, I now think on a technical level it make sense.

$349 - iPhone SE 2
$449 - iPhone 8
$549 - iPhone 8 Plus
$699 - iPhone 9 LCD 6.1"
$899 - iPhone XS 5.8"
$999 - iPhone XS 6.4"

The beauty of this lineup is that apart from SE, all of them gets wireless charging and no 3.5mm jack ( Not that it is a good thing but it is standardise ) iPhone SE 2 also gets the A11 chip, same as iPhone 8.

The whole product line now includes GPU designed by Apple. And as promised in 2017 Apple to withdraw all PowerVR usage within two tears.

Than again, getting an iPhone 8 Plus at $549 this year is just way too good to be true.

So the Plus will cost 240 euros more then the standard model, and the difference between the two will be less then the previous standard and plus models?
That’s £216, currently the iPhone 8 Plus is £100 more then the standard 8 with more extra features then the rumoured XS and XS Plus differences.

iPad Mini
iPad
iPad Pro

iPhone Mini (5.8)
iPhone (6.1)
iPhone Pro (6.5)

Idk, it doesn’t work well because 5.8 isn’t exactly mini by phone standards. Plus the 6.1 is a mid-ranger in specs but not screen size. The 6.1 throws things off.

The Airbus 737 MAX sells for $96 million. It's not cheapened by the name.

Why can't apple just do the bleeding obvious and call the two products "iPhone" and "iPhone Pro" like every other product line?

Yup those prices don’t stand up to any basic scrutiny.

The gaps between the XS and XS “bigger version” are odd.

There’s also storage size tiers to take into account which would push the top price even higher.

How on earth is iPhone Xs Max any less of a mouthful than iPhone Xs Plus?

I was really hoping Apple would decide this year to finally abandon their increasingly cumbersome iPhone numbering scheme. Instead it looks like they’re going to make it worse!

You’re not saying it right. Xs= Excess, so it’s iPhone Excess Max.
