It totally makes sense for Apple to make the regular AirPods without the separate tips like the Pro’s have. There are plenty of people who like the open feeling the originals offer, and it simplifies things too. Hopefully Apple will work on improved designs for the tips for the Pro’s 2, as I think they are the one negative aspect - beyond limited battery life. But I have been mostly happy with the Comply foam tips I’ve been using for a while now (version 2, as the 1’s did not work well).

It does give a better seal... which is exactly why I DON'T want the standard AirPods to have them. No seal means it's a lot easier to hear what's going on around you which is especially useful for taking phone calls as it's easier to hear yourself speaking + easier to hear cars around you in the city (transparency mode on the AirPods Pro is nowhere near as good as your naked ears). Additionally I find that AirPods Pro can actually build up pressure in my ear which is very uncomfortable. It's strange but standard "non sealing" AirPods are sometimes a better pick for me depending on my situation.
I will say, as someone who has regular airpods and AirPods Pro, it’s easier to hear your surroundings with the pros with transparency mode on.

It does, but if the rumors are true that it won’t have ACN then why bother with the tight seal?

eh? Loads of earbud-style headphones have a seal to stay in your ears and help sound quality by providing passive noise cancellation rather than active.

I personally don’t like it and agree with those saying they hope we just get the standard shape. If not I’ll probably just pick up a pair of second gens as my girlfriend has some and I really like them.

I suppose offering them as an option is possible? But then they wouldn’t fit as snug in the case.

I think the thing about the silicone tips is that it’s a different style of fit. For me, the lack of a seal from a tip is a feature, not a negative. That’s because I like the ease of placing/removing an AirPod or two.

That I can hear my surroundings is likewise a benefit (safety, feeling comfortable in various environments including situations where it’s useful to be able to hear a little of what people nearby are saying). I know this is dealt with by the audio transparency feature, but that’s something you have to think about and actively engage/disengage.

I’d be happy with Apple offering choice, so if you want something more utilitarian, basic and non-customisable, you opt for the entry level model. If you are willing to pay more, you get more features in return.

I really hope that bit about the silicon tips is wrong. I’d rather just have the all plastic design that’s worked so well for the earbuds for so long. I for one hate the silicone tips of the AirPods Pro.
For whatever reason even these clearly legit images wont stop people from thinking tips will be on these tings....how exactly is that even possible for them to have silicon tips looking at the case. TIPS ARE NOT HAPPENING

Its hilarious how dopes keep putting mocked up tips randomly in photos when there isn't one leaked photo that shows the actual tip nor any room in the damn case for it to fit anyway. Just cant get over it can they.....NO TIPS

Precisely how I feel.

I hate the almost “underwater” or “in my head” feeling with the Pro’s
I had the pros, it got very uncomfortable after 1-2h, and in-ears makes my ear canal itch and hurt after a while.

Over/On ears makes my outer ear hurt, can't wear more than 2h, too

I hope the new ones fits my ears better than the current AirPods, they are too loose.
But AirPods are the most comfortable Earphones i ever tried, sadly they sound so bad, but okay for work and light background music.

These look like bad clones, no doubt the Chinese market has already started mass-producing clones for AirPods 3

They already have them on the market!

Squeeze controls?
Nope. Done.
The useless squeeze controls on the Pro line is the biggest thing I hate about them, second only to the way they fall out of my ears if I am doing anything but sitting still.
If Apple ditches tap controls then the second Gen non-Pros will be the last version I buy.

Ah, no thank you. Especially since I already have the Powerbeats (4th generation) and have been pleasantly surprised at its excellent sound quality for spoken voice podcasts.

I wanted to buy some airpods, maybe the pro ones. My question is whether I buy the old ones or the "pro 2".
Any suggestion ?
I am not interested in "airpods 3" because it has no noise cancellation.
thanks :)

With the AirPods 3 rumored to be launching as soon as this month, we've been seeing an increasing number of leaks showing off the design of the new earbuds. Renders were shared yesterday, and today, 52audio has published a series of images said to feature the third-generation AirPods.

airpods-3-1.jpg

As with prior leaks, the AirPods 3 have an AirPods Pro-like design with a shorter stem and a more rounded body design that's close to identical to the AirPods Pro. The stem will still be a bit longer than the AirPods Pro stem, but it's much shorter than the AirPods stem.

airpods-3-2.jpg

Rumors have suggested the AirPods 3 will have snap-in silicone ear pieces for a more comfortable and customizable in-ear fit, much like the AirPods Pro, but that doesn't appear to be the design depicted in the images. If accurate, these images suggest the AirPods 3 will have a design similar to the AirPods without silicone tips.
airpods-3-3.jpg

The AirPods 3 case will be similar in design to the AirPods Pro case. It's wider than the standard AirPods case to accommodate the new body design, and not as tall because it no longer needs to fit such long stems. It does not appear to have room in the top for silicone ear tips, which also suggests a tipless design.

airpods-3-4.jpg

While the AirPods 3 will look like the AirPods Pro, rumors suggest they will not have Pro-level features. Active Noise Cancellation will remain limited to the AirPods Pro, and other features like spatial audio may also be a premium feature.

AirPods 3 are expected to continue to feature an Apple H1 chip and all of the standard functionality currently available to the AirPods 2 and the AirPods Pro like fast device pairing, pressure relief functionality, quick switching, clear call quality enabled through beam-forming microphones, and long range.

airpods-3-5.jpg

52audio believes that the AirPods 3 will be priced at $150. AirPods 2 sell for $159 without a Wireless Charging Case and $199 with a Wireless Charging Case. It's not clear if Apple will offer both options with the AirPods 3, but it seems likely Qi-based wireless charging functionality will be the standard option.

AirPods 3 are believed to be ready to go, and they're expected to launch early in 2021. In fact, rumors suggest that Apple could hold an event on March 23, and if that happens, it's likely that event will see the debut of the new AirPods.

I don’t see why these would have the pressure relief functionality of they aren’t in-ear and there’s no silicone tips.

To me, this appears like a sort of “AirPods Pro SE” where they strip most of the premium features like ANC, directional sound, etc., and give us upgraded sound or a next generation “H1” Bluetooth chip, H2? And then at a lower price, around $149-$199.

Obviously without the “SE” branding, but a sort of stripped down but still upgraded and less expensive experience overall.

no silicone tips = take my money

My airpods from 2017 have almost no battery life, but they're perfect for getting out of the case quickly/easily for work calls which is all I use them for. The APP sound better, but are more of a hassle to get out of the case and in your ears for a quick call

Why does @MacRumors keep saying this for every story? None of the leaked prototypes have shown the rubber tips. There’s also no way they would fit in the case with the tips added on. They’re obviously not adding them if this is actually the final design.
I think they edited their story. Either way, I agree with you. I think it's been pretty clear for a while now that this product wouldn't have removable tips, but bad info and poorly photoshopped images kept the rumor alive. (The nature of leaks, I suppose.) Hopefully this leak clears things up, as these images are pretty unambiguous.
