I'll say it again; the Marketing team needs to be fired. We all know this is a spec bump and they'll just bloviate about how "it's the greatest ever Mac" blah blah blah. Just show a comparison with like an M1, and let the stats speak for themselves.

I’ve said the same thing. Marketing and the software team needs to be completely wiped and all new TALENT brought in. Both departments are atrocious and simply collecting a paycheck for lackluster work at this point. BUT…this goes higher than just the workers, the managers need to be flushed, as well. They’re the ones giving the orders and obviously they’re doing a terrible job at it.

Right. The best way to get more done faster is to fire everyone who knows anything and start again...

Apple Event Announced!

Maybe the real announcement will be custom options with the M5? So you can separately choose the CPU and GPU you want? As has been rumoured.

How do we all know that? Leaving aside that it would be predictably silly to bring a bunch of journalists into rooms set up around the world to show them boxes that look exactly like the boxes we had last week and say "experience it", and therefore that's obviously not what's happening, the only information we have is rumors about how other rumors were wrong.

I fully predict with absolute certainty that, regardless of whatever is unveiled, this crowd will say it wasn't worth an event but there's no way this is just a chip swap with nothing experienceable.

All the high RAM capacity mac studios are either sold out or backordered to mid April on the store rn…

M5 is imminent

Heck, most professional users just prefer to tether because it's simple enough. That's why there's no MBP with cellular to begin with.
No, it's not. I use this feature multiple times a day and it's buggy and annoying as hell:

- every 1 out of 10 there is an error message (without clear reason)
- if iPhone lost connection (because, for example, I'm on a train) the wifi connection is terminated (this behavior is new since some time) and I have to manually reconnect
- sometimes, I have to manual re-enable tethering on the iPhone. Because of this, I had to add the switch on the iPhone lock screen to always easily turn it on again (I never turn this off but have to turn it on again and again!)
- connection is not instant (like on an iPad) which is especially annoying which the bugs above
- speed seems much slower than native mobile connection (as on iPhone)
- some features (like handover or iPhone mirroring) doesn't work anymore since the wifi is used differently
- there is no tracking of data usage on the mac (especially per app, also, like on iPhone)
- I would like to always see the exact type of connection (5G, LTE) and signal strength - which is shown, of course, but seems to be updated very infrequently

And, I presume, macs with mobile chip could also inherit the GPS functionality but this is speculation. Basically, I would love to have every feature and benefit for the mac an iPad with mobile has since the 2010s.

(Of course, I tested different devices and had all on them clean installed in the last years multiple times. The problems persists. Most of the annoyance I'm seen for years, if not for decades, and it only became worse. It seems as if apple employees don't use this feature much for themselves).

Ok, I stop now 🙂

Right. The best way to get more done faster is to fire everyone who knows anything and start again...

That’s just it…you said done FASTER…Apple doesn’t need faster, it needs competent. most of them don’t know anything. Look how terrible these software releases have been. Each one gets progressively worse with more issues, more bugs, more problems… you don’t solve the issue by letting the problem just grow bigger.

So, do I correctly summarize this as "I'm mad, people should suffer"?

Does Marketing really know anything? Apple Intelligence on iPhone 16 ring a bell?

It seems like the Marketing department has too much power and influence. Let the Hardware and Software teams drive the bus. Marketing can have the priority first seat behind the driver.

I think there's a bit of confusion here. I'm thinking Apple will do press releases for products with a spec bump. Those products don't need a video and the typical Apple fluff. Just have a bar saying its x times faster than M1/M2. The experience thing seems to be a new product entirely. Now that I see a need for a flashy intro, a speech by Tim or whoever owns the project, and full Apple Marketing work.

The proposal was to fire the software team too... Fire marketing, fire the firmware team, fire management.

Hardware and software have never driven the Apple bus, design always. The biggest single source of problems from my point of view is that every government in the world is trying to drive the bus at the same time and the Apple customer base keeps complaining that there's nothing "new" as they try to keep making infrastructure changes to navigate an impossible regulatory climate.

Yeah, I think you're right. "Announcements" plural-- this is referring to the press releases. I think I and others misunderstood that to mean the event.

Maybe Apple News will launch in more countries than United States, United Kingdom, Australia and Canada.

And iPhone Mirroring in the EU is getting announced for 2037.

🙃
