Yes,

but will they fix the raised blacks issue???
raised blacks? You sound like you have the TV set to HDR and not to auto switch. Set it to sdr and match frame rate and dynamic range and it will auto switch into hdr. Ive only seen elevated blacks if its set to HDR because its trying to push HDR onto everything.

You are obviously uninformed or don’t own an OLED.

read any avs article on this topic and you will understand what you don’t right now.

disregard if you have a cheaper LCD and not an OLED

Waiting for this. My Apple TV 4th gen can’t play most newer streaming apps without quitting after a few seconds of playing anything. I can watch YouTube, but not Disney+ or peacock or a handful of others.

I have a Sony oled, a8h, and don't see any issues with blacks. What is causing it? I only see it when I turn on hdr on the main screen.

Type in Apple TV raised black on avs forums and you will see many many threads about this widespread issue.

blacks on Apple TV (4K) mostly Netflix Dolby vision are not true blacks but instead darn grey. This isn’t an issue on Nvidea or internal apps

....... 23.976 hz is 24 fps... just like 30 fps is 29.97. And 60 fps is 59.94...
No. They’re not the same. At all. That’s why there’s a massive thread over at AVS. Watching 24.000fps movies/tv shows on Apple TV 4K’s supported 23.976fps output is a juddery mess.

However, I must have missed this piece of news because it appears that FINALLY (it’s been years!) we’re getting proper 24.000fps support on Apple TV 4K with tvOS 14.5!

Apple are all about mindshare not market share , they have a massive influence on the industry and always have , that’s what makes them unique

It's rare that Apple's UX lags behind competition, but the Apple TV is one instance where this is true.

Not only is the remote rubbish, but the whole Apple TV UI is very limited and restrictive.

For instance, LG's WebOs on their TVs runs laps around the Apple TV in terms of usability and ease of use. Their MagicRemote is amazing.

Hoping Apple seriously ups their game on this front.
What exactly is restrictive about the UI? You swipe to said app you want to use, click and you're using said app....

Apple isn't going to build a "cheaper single SOC based HDMI plug-in streaming device." That's why they made the Apple TV app for the various platforms. The Apple TV app allows them to cover the low end without getting involved with "race to the bottom" hardware. Apple makes money on premium hardware.
This person gets it.

I mostly agree, and while I'm not usually one to immediately call something "outdated", the Apple TV has gone 1299 days since the last update, that doesn't give off a flashy "premium" vibe.

I’m glad it does what it does for you, I’m satisfied with it too.
But, if that value add would mean anything to the standard consumer, it would not be in the “other” category, therefor, it’s a niche product. And that is fine, but that will not help Apple to get to the next level

Concur to a point - but I think Apple needs to market it better to get visibility. I had a mix of ATV and Roku in the house and eventually converted all 4 of my tvs to ATV.

What does that mean for content itself? When a producer makes a new movie do they record at say 4k 60fps? or just the max 4k 120fps?

Recording content at high frame rates has not been received well by most audiences, unless you are talking about nature documentaries. The most well known attempt at high frame rate movies was "The Hobbit", which director Peter Jackson released at 48 fps. Audiences largely hated it since it made characters seem less like fantasy and more like actors with makeup and prosthetics. However, TVs that can do 120 hz aren't adding additionall detail, they just upsample what's already there and it really helps film content since 24 is a multiple of 120.

Interesting. TBH I would never had thought about those details.. You mention the Hobbit. I watched that the first time in 5th grade on a projector. Was REALLY interesting. I guess I remember it so well because of some of the features you mentioned.. It looked so real.

Apple TV has just 2% market share of streaming devices. If that's the criterium to keep selling the product, it's very well possible it's next on the chopping block. It's absolutely not doing fine.
If you want a cheap piece of crap, go buy it. Apple almost always resides at the more premium end of the market. NVidia Shields are $200. There’s a reason Amazon and Google sticks only cost $30. Spoiler alert, they scoop up your data. You’re the product here. That’s in addition to them being an inferior product. Anyone happy with a basic experience is going to use their built-in TV apps. Those looking for more will gravitate to separate devices.

Yes those images are BFI low medium and high. “OLED motion pro” is what LG calls BFI.
not bragging.. I recently caught a good deal for Samsung's QLED 8K 65' TV. Really nice technology. Sorta waste since nothing is 8K LOL... very high refresh and motion rates even has a gaming mode.

And STILL no event. This is a pathetic showing Apple. As a stockholder I would like to have some new products in the pipeline TO GO OUT THE DOOR. The bottleneck is Tim. Not impressed.
My 4 year old AppleTV 4K just died, worst time ever for it to fail. Now I need to figure out what to do in the short term. Who knows how long it will be. Likely pickup up a Roku or FireTV stick for the short term.
