Wouldn't be surprised if they moved the SE2 Plus timeline from 2021 to mid-2020.

Given the current circumstances, Apple will want every dollar of revenue this year.

Low price will be the name of the game. It'll be impossible to meet volume targets without pulling the price lever.

Excellent, my favoured option to replace my 8 plus, I just hope there's a 256 option!

Hm. 4.7’ “iPhone 9” - yes, there’s a market for a smallish and affordable yet powerful iPhone.

2021 All-screen “SE 3” with touch id in the power button or under display - again yes, makes perfect sense as the next generation budget option.

But this 5’5 inch bezel city “9 Plus“ - why? I think the iPhone XR at $600 currently covers this segment perfectly, and the reduced price iPhone 11 can replace it in this role in the fall.

Iphone 11 small??? Gimme a break

It isn’t really that much bigger than the iPhone 6/7/8 model, which is about as small as is reasonably useful.

Having had an iPhone 4 and 5 before migrating to the 6 and then giving that my son when the 6s Plus was released, I can confidently say that Apple is never going to release something as small as the iPhone SE ever again.

It isn't that complicated. Some people prefer smaller and lighter devices that are easier to operate one handed regardless of cost.

That just isn’t a large enough market for Apple to spend time catering to and committing engineering resources to developing a specific model the approximate size of the SE with all the bells and whistles of the iPhone 11.

Having had both an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 5 from 2011-2014, and then the iPhone 6 from 2014-2015, it became quite evident that unless you use the bare minimum functionality of the iPhone, that the 4/5/5s/SE are simply too small to be usable by the majority of people. The 6 barely fits the bill and my son has an iPhone 7, which I find to be the smallest usable size; even then it’s dubious...I honestly have no idea how he lives with that tiny screen, but he makes due.

I can certainly see Apple producing an iPhone 9/9 Plus, but the SE form factor and size is dead. The final nail in the coffin will be the release of the 9/9 Plus. At which point, I do hope that SE devotees can move on.

It's kinda sad and hilarious at the same time, that the cheapest budget Chinese smartphones have the near-bezelless look, but here Apple still thinks flogging this outdated design is somehow OK.
I’ll take a 6 year old Apple industrial design any day over some bendy, plasticky Chinese POS smartphone running Android that lasts 6 months before taking a crap.

Having a 9 plus doesn't make sense to me. It will draw customers away from the XR/11 simply because of the low price point. Without it, it forces people that want a bigger screen/edge to edge screen to make that $200 jump from the iPhone 9 $399 to the XR's $599. That $200 jump I feel many will take if the iPhone 9 plus didn't exist.

FINALLY!!!
A successor to the 8+!
1080p LCD screen, A14 processor. 4GB of RAM, Touch ID.
Take my money. I'll buy it even if it's the most expensive iPhone available.

Please please please let this rumor be true

100%. Was secretly hoping there was a SE2+ in the making. I'm ready for this especially as the 11 doesn't have a 1080p display. I really hope they don't use a lower res screen in this new plus.

If we go by historical naming conventions, after the Macintosh SE came the Macintosh Classic. It would be natural to call the update the iPhone Classic...

Following that line of reasoning, they should have called the new "Max" as "Platinum Plus" after the iPhone 6/6s/7/8 Plus moved to XS/11 Pro Max

Yes, it's like the 2017 MacBook Air compared to 2017 Windows notebooks. Sad yes, hilarious no!

These are likely the prices and lineup.

iPhone 11 Pro Max - $1,099
iPhone 11 Pro - $999
iPhone 11 - $699
iPhone XR - $599
iPhone 9 Plus - $499
iPhone 9 - $399

Now extend that to this fall (with a price tweak). Pretty easy to understand, 4 OLED A14, 5G models; 4 LCD, A13 (one A12), LTE models. The entire LCD line will be low cost hot sellers.

OLED, 5G
iPhone 12 Pro Max 6.7 inch - $1,099 (A14)
iPhone 12 Pro 6.1 inch - $999 (A14)
iPhone 12 6.1 inch - $749 (A14)
iPhone 12 5.4 inch - $699 (A14)

LCD, LTE
iPhone 11 - $599 (A13)
iPhone XR - $499 (A12)
iPhone 9 PLUS - $449 (A13)
iPhone 9 - $399 (A13)

Such a fragmented line of devices. And the reason is simple: declining sales numbers. iPhone reached “peak” a few years ago, Apple admitted it and went so far to stop releasing sales figures, something they proudly flaunted years before.

With all these cheaper iPhone they are basically trying to capture sales on the other segments. The thing is, most manufacturers offer better value at those price points. Many people in Asia, Africa and Latin America find iOS too restrictive and these iPhones too old looking with huge notches and few selling points compared to the premium devices other than price.

If Apple really wants to dominate all segments they have to consider a redesign, a modern looking, compact, small device with good features and a competitive price point rather than recycling this old iPhone 6 design year after year and calling it new or SE.
Well the ne t few years will probably give a nice 5G boost as people (me included) hup on tha band wagon

I'd buy a new iPhone right now if it was the same size as my 8, didn't have a notch at the top of the screen, and had Touch ID. I hope Apple delivers with this one.

It’s been heavily rumored for many months, and is supported by an iOS 14 code leak. So it’s a pretty good bet.

But is there really such a difference between your 8’s A11 and the A13? It would seem the target audience is more 6/6s/SE/7 (and earlier). Or maybe your 8 is damaged and you need a new iPhone?

I think the A13 might give him Night Mode...that's a big difference from the A11!

According to the rumors, it'll be an A13 SoC, not A14

I’d pay big bucks for a new iPhone X or 11, but I’m not willing to give up TouchID. Make a high end iPhone 12 with TouchID and there will be a boatload of 7/8 holdouts wanting to buy it.

I never thought I’d switch to FaceID but I gotta say it works well. I honestly don’t miss the home button after my 8+ broke and I had to upgrade to the 11. What I do miss, though, is the telephoto lens. Really wish Apple hadn’t skimped on that.

I have traveled the world, and for the most part everywhere three groups of people exist: those who have iPhone, those who want iPhone, and those who despise iPhone as it’s not “open” or technical enough. I look everywhere and used to see iPhone rarely in most of Asia except Japan, but now even in moderately wealthy countries iPhones can be seen by those in the working class from convenience store clerks to entrepreneurs. In South America, seven years ago I would see one person out of maybe 50 with an iPhone. Now it’s one in three. In Africa it’s now one in ten. In China it one in three in cities and not to be seen in rural areas. In Moscow, more than half the people I see have iPhone, but in the rest of the country it’s not even equivalent to one in ten.

I also travel to Apple stores all over the world and see the differences. The biggest thing I noticed is Samsung and Huawei have stores in every mall and all over whereas Apple has relatively few stores in comparison. It’s absolutely shocking to me that Apple sells as many iPhones as it does. However, I will say that phones that look like iPhone 6/6+ to 8/8+ rein supreme everywhere except America, Japan and isolated pockets of Europe. The iPhone truly is that style to most people around the world. The iPhone 9/SE2 or just iPhone as I think it should be called will rule the world for years with an A13 SoC. That’s a capable iPhone with no ugly notch.

So other than India, where I truly don’t see many iPhones at all, iPhone is popular all over the world even in developing countries!

When news first broke of the SE2, I was disappointed to see no mention of a plus model. I have a 6s+ that I've had from launch and besides the battery, it has held up extremely well. A 5.5 in iPhone with a home button, the newest chip, and 3/4gb of RAM is all I need. That phone will last me at least 4 years. Great news! Very glad that Apple determined there is a market for this form factor in both regular and plus sizes.
