This may have been mentioned a dozen times already, but could the 12" MacBook Air and iPad Pro be the same thing? Especially now that we have an iPad Pro mold showing an apparent hinge on the side?

Both this concept and the iPad would have the exact same ports as well. Headphone jack and charge port, only the iPad Pro...errr...MacBook Air's port allows for USB connection which could be the "Pro" feature of the new iPad.

D.

Hmmm... not sure I like the different color options. I loved the aluminum look. I don't think a gold/champagne laptop would look very appealing.

It looks pretty ugly in the render above, but if done right I think it might work.

It seems the gold color above is too dark and too reflective compared to gold iOS devices, and the white keyboard doesn't match well. Also that blue-ish Apple logo is weird.

Take the regular silver MBA and apply a sublte gold anodization, and I think it'd look fine.

LOL. These renderings are literally STUPID!

You cannot close the monitor because the sides of it would push the buttons on the left and right.

I cannot believe someone spends time on this and misses this :)

How are you supposed to open it with one hand? The base won't be heavy enough, or the hinge won't be stiff enough to be able to keep the lid up, or shut tight -- one or the other.

I don't think you can open the current MBA with one hand either, and the rMBP is a challenge.

So how the hell are you supposed to charge it?

Through the USB-C port. There is a "Power Delivery" spec that allows for 100 watts of power, which is more than enough to charge a laptop. So with USB-C / USB 3.1, you could have a single cable for everything: power, display, networking, drives, PCIe devices, etc. It's only disadvantage over ThunderBolt 2 appears to be less bandwidth (10 gigabit/s vs 20 gigabit/s), but it's still quite adequate.

Very VERY appealing.

I hope Apple introduces these colors. Not that I'm buying a Macbook Air... But this will open a door for a Space Grey Macbook Pro. And that's what I always ever wanted. :D

meh..

my iPad Air in a clam case pro or zagg keys cover looks 900 times better than these renders. try again. this time - actually be creative and imaginative please.

that is what the world lacks gravely, imagination and creativity - everyone is just resorting to what is all already out there and sticking to what people "prefer". this is a chance to be crazy.

i don't like the FAT bezels and those FAT left right arrow keys, yuck!

I love you all so much. MORE creativity and originality please!

remeber when apple talked about planting their A-Chips in MacBooks? I think the 12 inch Air is the perfect opportunity as Intels low power chips don't seem to be that amazing. Also, I'm not a techie guy but could the lightening connector ever charge a MacBook Air? Would be definitely good because of the size,

"remeber when apple talked about planting their A-Chips in MacBooks?"

Apple has said no such thing. Where the did you read that? All of the stuff being written about Macbooks using Apple's A-series SoC's are mere speculation at this point. That's not say it will never happen but Apple has not officially said anything confirm it.

i'd move to cupertino to personally slap every current apple employee if the power button replaces the esc key on the left-hand side.

God I hate this guys renders. Apple is not going to make a gold laptop with white keyboard.

thanks for the pics. was having a difficult time imagining what a 12" MBA with 1 port might look like.

Could it be possible that the 12 inch Macbook Air and the iPad Pro might end up being the same device? Some type of hybird with detachable keyboard?

I think the renders looks pretty cool. The way speakers show up isn't very Apple though. I like the darker colour and gold colour but they don't look better than the silver with black keys contrast. I like the laptops but won't buy them without USB ports. I use USB keys, charge my iPhone and use sd cards so as much as I like it, can't buy it.

Edit: whoops. Misread.

Apple has not discussed them doing it, but plenty of others have.

You can open the current MBA with one hand actually.. But I don't believe someone is complaining about this. Since when is this a thing?

"today we're announcing a retina mba - and a bigger iPad - a retina mba - and a bigger iPad - are you getting it yet??"

You mean a convergence device that Cook said Apple wouldn't do? :p

The 9to5Mac rumor made no mention of iOS or iPad.

Wouldn't this lead to daisy-chaining if you needed to connect more than one device? for example: syncing your iPhone or iPad, while needing to use a monitor for work at a desk?
