Way too much bezel. The last MBA hardware revision was what, 4 years ago? I'm sure they can cut it down more than that.

I am no Einstein but just some simple math:
Assume
-12.2 screen 16:10, width 10.2" (25.9cm)
-standard keyboard edge to edge, 11" (27.9cm)

Leaves 0.4" (1cm) for the bezel on left and right side. 'Way' less than on these renderings

I hope the RAM is soldered in and everything is held together with hot glue so that there's no chance of it being serviceable!

At some point the race toward thinness becomes pointless, especially if you lose practicality. There (evidently) is some bragging rights associated with being thin and light, but being able to connect with other equipment is useful. And if it costs me 5 extra ounces and 1 millimeter I don't mind.

I'd totally pick one of these up as my mobile writing rig. I am a little concerned about the idea of only a single port, but I will wait and see what Apple actually does. They must have some idea what's good.

 Wowzers

I didn't believe the thin-ness. but maybie this could be Photoshopped

I also can't beleive Apple would use one port for both power and other stuff ..... This doesn't sound true

edge-to-ege keyboard, ok maybe...

Why would u want one port for everything, and only one extra usb port ?

This would basically mean, if u want to connect two usb devices, and power as well, u must get a hub.... or maybe a Y cable from the one all-in-one new port or something ? *also I doubt Apple would do this on a laptop.*

Something is fishy.

I don't see Apple doing this...

But i like the thinnest.... Now this will be the most un-repairable mac to date. (if true)

This makes no sense. Apple has bet big on Thunderbolt and now they'd abandon it for their best-selling computer? I doubt that. And if true, it's yet another worrisome sign that the new Apple is on its way to become Sony.

USB 3.1 C carries USB, Power, and DisplayPort through a single connector. Heck, with the passthru feature you can connect a cable that has thunderbolt on one end and USB 3.1 on the other supposedly.

I suspect if this is the case that Apple will be more than willing to sell dongles to their mobile customers while leaving full thunderbolt 2 and 3 ports on their upcoming mac pros, iMacs and macbook pros.

I'll say this again... Apple better not ***** up the keyboard by putting the Power key at the upper-left!

Is Esc even doing anything nowadays? I don't think I've ever pressed it on my rMBP now that I think about it lol

ESC presses the Cancel button on any dialog. It also dismisses the Search bar in Safari, Chrome, Firefox... dismisses Spotlight... dismisses the Force Quit dialog ... exits out of Dashboard... just to name a few. It's a VERY useful key for us keyboard junkies.

I'm vexed at the amount of outrage over the power key placement on these renderings. I must be the only one who never has a reason to hit the ESC key. Besides, even if you do accidentally hit it it's not like it'll shut down immediately - you always get a prompt. It won't be an issue, so why make it one?

I think not even Einstein could figure out why Apple is possessed when it comes to THIN devices and why the bezels are so big.

Had an F in math, so I'll just believe you calculations:)

coming from a technician stand point...as an aasp, multiple colors are a pain in the ass. I highly doubt apple will go back to multi color options for the same computer. The old black/white MacBooks were bad enough when they were around, a new gold option thats easily scratched? I doubt it.

on a personal side, I wouldn't care for a black aluminum macbook again, but again from the repair standpoint, its not worth the hassle to keep 2 of the same exact part but different color in for them. We'll see who's right in the long run, but i just don't think it makes sense.

First thing I do in VIM is map Esc to 'jk' or something like that so I do not have to even reach for the Esc-key.

I agree with the direction with this. Currently, the Air is too powerful that you have to decide to go Pro or Air. By coming out with this, it will make it easier to decide to go Pro if you need a true Mac. If you are a power user on your iPad, then the new Air is the upgrade path for you.

... and THIS is what I'm afraid of... Apple catering to the non-power-user masses. I press the ESC key 1000 times a day, but the Power button 0 times a day.. so the positioning (and size!) of the keys in that mockup make absolutely no sense to how I use my computers. If Apple is clueless about this, then call me worried.

You're a VIM user, but you find Esc difficult to press? That is mind-boggling indeed. I consider myself a power user, but VIM has just never made sense to me, at all. I've gotten myself trapped in VIM several times and couldn't get out... such a frustrating experience.

Why even bother with a "3D rendition" of something?

Next thing you know is this guy will sue Apple for using some of his "artistic" renditions.

This guy will not have a chance to sue Apple. Because his rendering is not user friendly. Laptop is supposed to be portable. By dropping out all the ports but one mini-USB, how are we charging the laptop & iPhone at the same time when sitting in the cafe? That means we need to carry an extra USB splitter. That also means out of box, iPhone's charging cable will not work with mini-USB.

I think we'll see the two regular size USB ports configuration for several designs until Apple decides to swap out all connectors at once.

Apple's further attempt to thin out the next generation of MacBooks continues in the Retina MacBook Air's alleged lack of a USB and MagSafe ports, amongst other traditionally expected inputs. The new MacBook will reportedly have just two ports: a headphone jack and a USB Type-C Port, alongside a pair of microphones lining the sides of the device.

Might use the same connector as the current iPad and iPhone models. Worse case even for data transfer, if the usb port will disappear.

I also think the wedge shape is unsightly, always has been on the MBA.

13" retina MBP with it's solid slab of aluminum that sits flat looks better than the wedge shape of the MBA (spare me the tilted keyboard explanation).

timestamp this … they're going to move away from the unsightly wedge shape

i hope they'll make them black like the Mac Pro

No more space grey (which is just a dirty shade of silver)! Give us a proper black model, perhaps in matte.

Edit: and I realize that matte black is just a dirty shade of grey.
