Would be cool if the 12" Retina on the MBA was a touch screen. But that might dip into iPad sales.

iPad Pro?

I think that what we keep hearing about is not a new Macbook Air but the new iPad pro. It's an iPad with a bigger display and a built-in keyboard.

Way too much bezel. The last MBA hardware revision was what, 4 years ago? I'm sure they can cut it down more than that.

Need your guys' opinion. I'm itching to buy a laptop in the next few weeks. Was originally going to get a 13" Air but I really want a retina screen. Problem with this 12" Retina Air is it's still in theory ~1.1" smaller than a 13" MacBook Pro with Retina.

Would you get a 12" Air Retina but have to wait ~6 months or just pull the trigger on a slightly bigger 13.1" MacBook Pro with Retina? I don't buy computers often, this next one I want to keep for 5-6 years minimum. I have my iMac for just slightly over 7 years now. Thanks

Looks mad sexy, but I also share concerns about a notebook this thin bending like the 6 phone.

I also hate the border around the screen.. when are we getting edge-to-edge retina screens? Love the edge to edge keyboard, just need the screen to match.

People don't purposely sit on their laptops unlike their iPhones

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm trying to decide if I want to replace my 2011 MacBook Air with the current 13" rMBP now or wait for this new Air.

the 'artist' clearly didn't think about how the screen would close on elevated buttons (look closely), and clearly thought the power button needed a new home and, based on nothing whatsoever - decided it should go where the esc key has lived on keyboards for 30 some odd years. i wouldn't trust this 'artist' to get me a cup of coffee, let alone tell me what an unreleased laptop will look like.

Yes, that's my point. We are all believing this "artists" impression whereas the reality is, this "artist" knows nothing about it.

It'll have an edge-to-edge screen, and probably lose the wedge shape too.

Combo

There are rumors circulating about 12" iPad pro and 12" Macbook Air. Maybe they are one and the same device. A hybrid device where the display unit works individually as an iPad and with the keyboard unit the whole device work as an Mac. :)

Having just USB C port and headphones jack reminds me of iPad.

I agree with many that this is the "iPad Pro" that has long been rumored, except that instead of running iOS, this will run OS X. Like iPad, it may have ARM processor (probably even more souped up) and fanless.

What I am not sure is whether it should have a touch screen like many Windows notebooks have these days.

And obvious point of contention is what the charger will look like. It will obviously connect to lone USB C port and to power outlet. I am hoping it will snap onto the notebook much like memory stick, adding 2 USB C ports, HDMI port, and SD slot, with MagSafe power cable.

Yes, please.

If the actual MBAs turn out to look similar to these, I may definitely be interested. The one thing I didnt like about the airs was that taper, and while it still exists in these, it is very negligible! I love it :apple:

I love Martin's renders, they look wonderful.

Three things I'd like different about it in real life vs. the renders:
1. Smaller screen bezel - see Dell's upcoming XPS 13. If they use a 12" 16:9 or 16:10 screen, with a similar-size bezel, it should be JUST wide enough to fit their current mobile keyboard. (It would seem silly to have a different-size keyboard on this vs. every other laptop.)

2. MORE PORTS! I'm not asking for MBP level of ports, but more than just one USB. With the size reduction of USB 3.1's type-c connector (which I *DO* hope is on it, and wholeheartedly support the idea that it will ONLY have type-c connectors,) please put three on - two on the left, one on the right. Best if all three are capable of full power transmit, but if it comes to it, make the rear left one the power plug. I don't want to have to use a dongle/hub/whatever to both charge *AND* plug in a device. Likewise, having one Thunderbolt port would be nice. With Thunderbolt (especially if it's the upcoming version that can do power transmit sufficient to charge a laptop,) having one Thunderbolt as rearmost on the left side, plus one USB type C on each side (with at least one of them capable of charging as well,) would be good.

3. SD slot. I really like having an SD slot for transferring pictures, and "simple" add-on storage. While I'm on the subject, it WOULD be nice if all of Apple's devices SD card slots were the same "depth" - I don't mind them not being all "100% insert flush", but at least make them the same depth so that companies that make "MacBook Air expansion" SD cards like PNY, SanDisk, and Transcend would only need to make one depth of card that works across all devices. Go ahead and make it the "least depth" one, that's fine.

Apple's further attempt to thin out the next generation of MacBooks continues in the Retina MacBook Air's alleged lack of a USB and MagSafe ports, amongst other traditionally expected inputs. The new MacBook will reportedly have just two ports: a headphone jack and a USB Type-C Port, alongside a pair of microphones lining the sides of the device.

This makes no sense. Apple has bet big on Thunderbolt and now they'd abandon it for their best-selling computer? I doubt that. And if true, it's yet another worrisome sign that the new Apple is on its way to become Sony.

Funny how people take rumors so seriously. It's just an imagining.
