Just curious, but what's so awesome about fanless? If it's about noise, you hardly ever hear the fan on a modern Macbook/pro anyway. Definitely not unless it's being stressed. When you do hear the fan, it's reassuring to know the fan is doing its job. With fanless we might encounter throttling or greater heat issues, especially in earlier revisions.

I have ARM Samsung Chromebook that is fanless. The nice thing about fanless is that I never have to worry about blocking the fan vents and the machine overheating. E.g. I can have it sitting on my bed in a heap of blankets and it doesn't matter. Not the case with Intel MacBooks, and I generally use a lapdesk under my MacBooks to prevent fan vent blockage. Not as much of an issue with the rMBP, though, but it still can be.

That said, at least currently, I don't think a fanless laptop could be powerful enough to do what I would use a MacBook for.

If they are to release the new 12" model later this year, with a re-designed chassis, could the rumoured refresh be an attempt to pick up sales in the next few months to use up stocks of parts that won't be in the new model? I don't know if this is how they operate, but just a thought...

A minor irritation if this is true is that those of us intending to buy the 12" version and sell our old MBAs will find them worth a bit less if they become an model old, if you see what I mean.

I just want reasonably priced Storage options and a default of 512 GB HD space.
Fusion drive method would work also with ssd+ssd.
Big, slow & cheap merged with small, fast & cheap.
When physical volume of these ssd's is close to dimm module, this would be no-brainer, if cost-speed factor of storage would be in priority in Apple.

I see a few folks asking for a rMBA. It already exists. It's called the 13" rMBP. I upgraded from a 13" Air (2011) to a 13" rMBP (2013) and I'm quite certain that this is as thin and light as technology would allow them to make a MBA with Retina. It's only a tad bit thicker and heavier than the Air I've since given to my daughter. Now, of course, technology improves year to year, so I'd imagine that they could shave off a bit more weight and thickness using *today's* technology, and possibly get a Retina laptop down to the same thickness/weight of my 2011 MBA.

Just upgrade the screen to retina and I would buy one tomorrow.

If true this means we won't see the new 12" MBA until the MBP's get updated in Oct/Nov at the earliest. I'm starting to wonder what if anything they are going to announce at WWDC if everything is coming out in the Sept-Nov months.

2013:
rMBP is the high-performance laptop.
MBA is the everyman's laptop

2014:
Out with MBA
In with 12" ipad pro in similar form factor
* significant weight savings
* ios ecosystem evolves
* no mouse support
* built in equivalents of external connectors -SD and USB

Mac portfolio becomes mini, Mac Pro and rMBP

I think, at least when comparing to the 11" MBA, the footprint is still too big for many with the 13" rMBP. At least, it is for me.

If a 12" MacBook Air Retina is coming, I think Apple will retire the 11" and 13" models to simplify its low-end laptop line.

I really hope there isn't another generation of non-retina MBA's. Ugh. And I REALLY hope they don't add a retina 12 inch one to have a lineup of 3. Just can the non-retina ones and replace it with the retina 12.

Why not a 15-inch MacBook Air?

Apple's only 15-inch model shouldn't be $2,000. Some people would like the larger screen & don't need quad cores.

If they will release a mini with Nvidia/Ati graphics i will probably get one.

I'll second this, the lack of Nvidia / ATI graphics is the one thing that keeps me from buying a Mac mini. If an update arrives with either of those I will be placing an order :)

Did anyone notice that 11.6 in (current smaller Air) and 11.88 in (rumored new MacBook) are virtually the same screen size?

If they reduce the bezel a bit, they could easily put a 12" screen into the current 11" MBA shell.

I hear NO word about updates to iMacs. Are these being discontinued by Apple?

What? They were updated like 6 months ago.

----------

Yes, unfortunately.

/s

Seriously, what? What would indicate they're discontinuing the iMac?

Yes. I think it should be 12.4 or something, 16:10.

jesus, what are we talking about? macbook air are not performance-devices. they cand and will never be, especially without a fan. they are not supposed to be either. no apple-computer is a performanced device for that matter. the highest end 15" macbook pro is positioned between mid and high-end. if you want maximum performance, look elsewhere. thats not what apple is about anyways. hell, imacs are laptops disguised as desktops.

you guys could be talking about open source and customizability on an iphone too, that would make just as much sense

I have ever only used Macbook and iMac and I was wondering why is mini such a desirable update? I'm curious because I have seen many comments about it around here.

1) iMac not ergonomic due to non-height adjustable screen
2) Drive not user upgradable
3) Some people already have a good monitor (Adjustable)
4) Mac Mini has better cable management/position
5) Mac Mini good for HTPC connected to TV, takes less space
6) Low price
7) OSX is better than Windows on a NUC (driver hassle)

Mac Mini needs updating to compete with Intel's Haswell NUC

I still love my 2013 MBA and I won't be upgrading for a long while, especially when incremental speed bumps are the update.

But boy am I excited to see these retina airs.
But agreed, my 2011 Mac Mini doesn't like anything I throw at it anymore, give me an updated Mini!

Ditto on the Retina Air. I've never owned an Apple laptop. I've been holding out for the Retina Air.

Nice to see comment four way back on page 1 has 38 thumbs up so far. C'mon Apple give the mini supporters a break :) were not going to go away you know :)

With dGPU it would be.
Care to buy 4 years old model?

Exactly why I didn't buy one when it was still on core 2 and the others were already on the next gen chips.

In general though more people want they stuff with them and portable to work anywhere.

New MBPs please as large as you can make them Apple.
27 inch iMac AIR.
