I hope they've added Apple TV AirPlay support to the remote. I hate having to change it manually. I mean having the little AirPlay icon beside the media controls like it does when you're controlling an iTunes library.

This app is still not working with my mid 2013 Macbook Air running Maverick. The previous version of the app didn't either. Is there a problem with this model Macbook Air not working with the remote properly?

I wonder if the remote app is still a one-man project like it was in years past, or if Apple has scaled it up so that it's now a whole team. It's definitely a nifty app to say the least and it is definitely worth Apple's additional human resources.

Still not sure why you can't select AirPlay speakers from directly within Remote with an AppleTV, but you can iTunes...

Agreed! You could/can on ATV1, but since ATV2 has been MIA. I use my old ATV1 like a music NAS and had hoped this upgrade would have allowed the same using Match on my 2.

Are TV shows still listed as one entry per season? I really wish it would be Show > Season 1, Season 2, etc instead of Show Season 1, Shows Season 2 at the top level.

Anyone know why my list of apple TV's when trying to use airplay says "Bedroom Apple TV (9)" or "Living Room Apple TV (8)" but "Basement Apple TV" is fine?

Mine did that when I used the same name for 2 bedrooms. I'm assuming you don't have 9 bedrooms and 8 living rooms though (if you do, kudos).

I solved it by always using Custom names on each AppleTV in settings.

And why doesnt the iOS 7 native music player look and function like this? Even the last version of remote was insanely powerful on the iPad with up next and a really music browser. It was literally the full version of itunes on a tablet. WHY WHY WHY ISNT THIS NATIVE!!!!!!!!!!!?????????

Instead we get some buggy half baked iOS 7 music player.

does anybody know how to sync audio between two apple tv's? its always off by a little bit

There's some wisdom

LOL. Seriously?

I wouldn't say get new stuff every year, but there is some wisdom to selling your old Apple stuff at 2-3 years. The reason is that you can usually get a good bit of money for the used equipment and then just buy something new for a few bucks. It's worth the headache for a lot of people. For instance, I could sell any of my old iPads for maybe $100 less than I bought it. For $100 loss, I get something brand new.

Again, not something you have to do, but your old hardware will eventually not be supported anymore.

Anybody notice that screen shot of the Remote app with the AirPlay control right next to the volume slider? That is beautiful, and I will tell you why....

Open up your Music app and try to find the AirPlay control. Notice that instead of it you get some stupid icons showing you that left is "less volume" and right is "more volume" (in case you didn't know).

An app like Music needs quick access to AirPlay speakers (especially since you switch this kinda of stuff in the car when it is incorrectly playing through your bluetooth headset instead of the car speakers). Instead the Music app relies on the Control Center access to AirPlay which may be disabled from lock screen and from in-app access so it does not interfere with games.

What's more, AirPlay control is also missing from the lock-screen audio controls so if you have Control Center disabled on the lock screen you cannot switch speakers without unlocking your device.

Music app needs to have the exact same playback controls that we are seeing in the Remote app.
It's like you're inside my head!

I wish Apple would put the AirPlay icon back in the player and on the lock screen.

This is true, but any future updates—whether its bug fixes or new features—will only be available on iOS 7 or later.

There are still many apps in the store that only require 4.3 or 5.1. But all of Apple's latest app updates require iOS 7, and many other developers are dropping pre-iOS 7 support at an alarming rate.

iOS 7 works fine on everything from the iPhone 4 and up. If you're using a 3GS or something older, you can't really complain about lacking the "newest" features.

I think it's just me.

Why is this a separate app? Why can't I just share to the iTunes library on my MacBook from my iPad and choose the have the music come out on my MacBook, or share to the iTunes library on my MacBook from my iPad and have the music come out on my iPad? Why isn't this just a selection in Music (or Video for Music Videos -- donjt get me started on that) on my iPad, instead of a whole separate app? It could even be two different selections in the Share menu; 'share MacBook library to MacBook', or 'share MacBook library to iPad'. I must be missing something.

I agree, but I assume it would bloat the iPod app unnecessarily for the vast majority of iOS users who don't need the remote app functionality.

I wish the Music app was more like this. Dark now playing screen, nicer color, no huge album art (esp. in playlists view), Up Next.

Noticed one bug already, though: Transparency is gone when you tap Search.

Nope.

I wish they would fix the volume slider being so close to the Next Track - I'm almost guaranteed to blow my ears out every so often when wanting to skip a song...

Thankfully its visual appearance has a bit less of the iOS7 awfulness.
We can only hope and pray they quietly roll out a revision or option to the hot as the sun white with greyscaled blacks employed in the other interfaces.

Really happy that the remote feature allows us to queue up songs with the "Up Next" feature. Why in the world is this not a part of the Music app??? It defies explanation why such a great feature was just ignored in iOS 7.

You know what else defies explanation? Why is there even a "music" app on iOS. Why isn't there just iTunes like in OSX? That's always bothered me and I've been using the iPhone since iPhone 3G.
