My reservation was from 8-830pm. From my understanding you could come whenever. So it was a free for all. This was at the Apple Store at Easton in Columbus, Ohio.

Made a scene? What are you, five years old? It's a goddamn phone for crying out loud.

You are mistaken.

This is not about the phone. A five year old would be upset about the phone. But the complaint in this thread is not about the phone. It's about a promise that was not kept.

I think he should get the phone for free. People say it was a "mistake" However, maybe it is, maybe it wasn't. It doesn't matter. The value of the lesson learned is far greater than the value of a phone.
  1. Keep your stock room organized
  2. Keep your promises
  3. Don't sell someone else's stuff
See here? You have to do several things. Raise the levity of the situation and let others around you know, that this does happen. It's rude and unfair.

There is simply no excuse for this to happen. If you don't raise the cost for the mistakes, they will continue to happen.

When was your reservation and did you go to the store? My local store closes at 9 and they started selling whatever they have left at 8.

OMFG

It happens. A busy, busy, busy day.

They will take care of you.

Get over it.

Shame on you.

Time out.

So I assume you got your phone?

He has every right to be pissed.

They will take care of you? Really? When.

They could have taken care of him by finding him a phone and then going to get it from another store or whatever they had to do to fix this.

The manager should be reprimanded.

I would suggest for you to send an email to Tim about this attcook@apple.com

I really wish people would stop suggesting this.

Mr Cook has had many chances and lots of resources to make sure that there is 100% perfection in every store and with every experience.

Based on this complaint and thread he has clearly NOT succeeded.

OP should contact the Board of Apple and have Mr. Cook replaced by someone who can provide 100% perfecction.

And if they are unwilling to act, email President Obama. He can use Executive Orders to resolve this not just for OP but for all the other people who may be affected or potentially affected.

And if that still doesnt work, well, the Pope is in the U.S. Maybe it is time to appeal to a much higher authority.

You were doing great until I read this.

Getting a phone for free because of a bad mistake? I have no words.

It happened to me this morning. I showed them my confirm email and everything and they just kept apologizing saying my model is sold out. Soo what was even the point of preordering?

I should have argued and gotten something free out of it lol.

Mistakes happen even in the most well planned system. The key to keeping customers happy is to make sure that plan includes a contingency for making mistakes. The manager could have offered a free Apple case (less profit loss) along with the apology. It could have turned a negative into a positive and build up a little brand loyalty.

Same thing happen to me last year. I had reserved a black 64GB with Verizon, but when I go there they were all sold out of that model. Luckily they had a couple of gold 64GB left and was able to snag one of those.

What's interesting to me is that every store; apple and AT&T, phones have always been set aside for escalations. This seems to be that maybe this store didn't do this? I do think that there could have been a screw up with the system or with shipping too. There's so much information traveling and with the amount of system traffic this opens up so many doors for issues to happen and problems to occur. Could be a system error, could be a shipping error, could be human error. I wouldn't necessarily jump to any single conclusion until it's known for sure what really did Halle , and in your case I believe you have the right for some sort of investigation work from the internal team to figure out exactly what happened and be communicated to you

Apple prides itself on customer satisfaction and usually does a good job
In a case like this where an error occurred and no compensation offered,it's time to go
To corporate
Call Tim Cooks office

In my case they had NO 6s+ available to sell me. Although there where people picking up 6s+ as I was leaving. So I dunno how the process works.

Too far. Certainly you can't ask for a free phone. It's a matter of proportion. Some places advertise, if you don't get a receipt, you get it for free. Surely you won't get a free car if they screw up.

Some have gotten free cases. However I think a free case is not really a lesson learned. It's got to be something more than that. I can't expect them to magically make a phone appear. So they have to come up with a solution proportional to the mistake made.

What options do you think a store manager could have? The phone was already 128GB, AT&T. Charge for the 16GB/64GB, but give the 128GB?

What would you have happen?

Free Applecare?
Free accessories?
Free iTunes credit?

Yes having a reservation go missing sucks, but these things happen. it could just as easily have been DOA or whatever. A free phone is way over the top though.

It's the principal more than anything. It all depends how important that is to an individual. It shouldn't be down played. These carriers need to realize customer service is matters tremendously in sales, especially.

Both Apple stores, Best Buy and T-Mobile shop all had stock available today for purchase.
Just cancel and take your business else where.

The shops didn't seem busy either. I'm going to pick one up tomorrow.

So we should never ever be critical when someone screws up? How will things ever improve?

If someone sold that phone to a friend, or "friend", then they should be losing their job. Some managers apparently did an awesome job of organizing everything (which tends to make things come off without a hitch), and some did a very poor job, completely chaotic. But we're not going to examine that at all because the poor manager might make less bonus than the awesome manager.

No one should ever lose a job over a reservation of an iPhone.

The apple fan entitlement attitude can be disgusting at times. It's just a device, mistakes can happen.

You do not even know what happened and are already suggesting someone's job can go.... Seriously?

Oh please. People need to stop the madness and entitlement mentality.
Mistakes happen.
People should get over it and stop thinking that they are entitled to $700+ in compensation.
You really think that somehow this would prevent it from happening during the next launch? LOL. What is far more likely, is that they will just ditch the reservation system and we can all wait in line or some low level stock person loses their job.

It is possible that they never had one. But I got 2 emails one saying I have it reserved then A a second saying its confirmed. I would think the only way it would confirm was if it was actually available.

It's possible the phone never arrived in the store. Could have been misplaced within the store .

It's possible that it was sold to someone.

Launch day in an Apple Store is chaos, they bring so many extra staff on, finding, maybe someone accidently brought your phone out for another reservation.

One reason I did not use reservation was cause I've heard of these same instances happening in the past .

Sorry, you could not enjoy your phone on launch day.

The manager will get you a phone asap. These guys are there to help you even if things go wrong. Not to serve us like some people on here believe ...

I'm serious about taking stuff like this to Tim Cook. This seriously hurts Apple's reputation and erodes customer confidence. I have no doubt that store managers have a way to hide stuff like this from ending up in their reports, so the only way for upper management to hold stores to account is for customers to go right to the top.
Are you serious?

I can see getting upset, and maybe asking for a free case, but let's keep things in perspective. The iPhone launches are always busy affairs, and mistakes can happen.
