Hey :)

Can rMBP drive a 3840x2160 4k monitor with a 2560x1440 HiDPI resolution?

(So the actual resolution would be 4k but it will look like 2560x1440).

It not, can any other macbook/mac mini (old or new) do this?

Thanks

Hi

I have a BenQ BL2420PT 2560 X 1440 monitor, running from a Macbook Pro 15" Mid 2012 with the latest High Sierra.

I want to use the scaled resolution, so that it displays 1920x1080 at HiDPI. Problem is the highest HiDPI resolution available is 1280 X 720..... no 1920X1080 hidpi.

SwitchResX doesn't offer more resolutions. I've tried making a custom res (scaled 1920x1080) but it didn't work.

Any help ? Am i stuck in 2560X1440 without scaling ?

Thanks a lot

Hello

I have a macbook pro mid 2012 no Retina and a 2k monitor. I've managed to use HiDPI resolution 1920x1080, but I can not get any more. 2048x1152 or more? can it depend on my macbook pro? or could there be some other problem?

Thanks in advance

Marcuss

I want to thank the original poster

I was able to get this working on a Mac mini 2012 and apple Thunderbolt Display 1440p monitor running high Sierra

I followed the guide installed switchresx, made a custom 3840x2160 resolution

after a reboot I did not see any hidpi options
so I did this terminal command
after a reboot, I now see the 1080p HIDPI option and other hidpi resolutions in switchrex

text looks crisp not blurry and font size is 1080p large on the apple thunderbolt display

Does your mac mini outputs 1080p HiDPi at 60Hz or 24Hz?

I got this to work on my 2012 Mac Mini, with Intel HD 4000 grafix, and Mac OS 10.8.3.
This is with a 2560x1440 screen, a DELL U2713HM, connected via Display Port.

One thing that confused me was that the new HiDPI modes don't show up in the apple system display preferences, nor in "Display Menu.app". They only show up in SwitchResX, and I wasn't looking in there initially, as other posters showed screen shots of the new modes showing up it the regular Displays section of System Preferences. Also at one point I borked my system and had to zap my PRAM to get the screen working again.

I've added two new modes.

Defined size: 3200x1800, giving 1600x900 in HiDPI

and

Defined size: 3840x2160, giving 1920x1080 in HiDPI

Both of which are much nicer than the 720p HiDPI mode, which was the max I could do before.

My late 2012 mini is hooked up to a 2560x1440 Dell U2713. I run it at 1080p scaled hdpi mode. Works perfectly.

Unfortunatelly I cannot get it work on my late 2009 iMac 27" core i7 (SwitchResX says that the resolution is "not activated - invalid?"). So i am stuck at 2560x1440 there.
Hi @diroussel @stevemr123 and others!
Does 1080p HiDPi running at 60Hz (fps) or at 30Hz on your mac mini?
