I hope they dont make SSDs standard, I just do not want to pay that price premium they will be charging ...
Cheap as chips these days. Seriously, you don't want any computer (even a desktop that may be always on) without SSD

I am only a newbie who is anxiously waiting on the iMac update but my market research would show that Apple have always been at the front when it comes to spec. The current iMac is almost 500 days old and believe it or not the competition are now only starting to offer iMac equivelants or close. sure you can buy PC's at half the price but at half the spec ( forget about custom builds) or the PC's with similar spec is only approx £150 cheaper if that, throw in Nvidia GT??? and your there.
My guess is
sandy-ivy, 8GB RAM min, Nvidia Graphics(as per MBP), HD 1080p + screen, 128 GB SSD + 1TB hd
if the update doesnt come close to this then i will seriously consider buying the current model , but obviously at a lower price
You got that backwards.
Apple tends to be far behind the competition performance and spec wise. Its called " apple tax ". They start out equal to the PC makers, then fall behind because they wont do any updates for almost 2 years.
If you think any computer is just a computer and any OS is just an OS, then maybe. Most of us think that OSX > Windows, and than an iMac > some cheap tower PC and monitor.
I see what you're saying. The thing with the Apple releases is that it tends to work as long as you can time your purchases with when they are released. I agree that the knock is that they aren't updated enough, even minor "speed bump" updates would help.Well having owned PC's and Macs for well over a decade, I can tell you that neither system is perfect for everyone, Macs are better for some people, and PC's are better for lots of people.
Sure they do, but they tend to lose their cost advantage over Mac hardware, and they still run Windows which is not what most people on this forum are interested in running. And why does everyone compare Macs with a 400 dollar Gateway Tower? Why can't you people accept that high end PC's do exist?
As a family, we're a lot happier now that we have gaming consoles (PS3, Wii) separate from the family computers. I would never go back to playing games on a PC or Mac.And as far as OSX vs Windows goes, its to the point where one isn't better than the other, its all about personal preference, an OS is nothing more than a means to get work or play accomplished. I use my PC's for work and heavy lifting, and gaming, and I've tended to use my Macs as living room media machines and daily drivers.

More like ridiculous.
This new iMac better be worth the wait. If all it is a minor spec bump i'm going to be very pissed.
It has been proven that after Jobs parted to a better place, Apple has become really slow when it comes to everything that is not portable/mobile...![]()
If Steve was instrumental in the regular releases of new Macintosh hardware, he should have had a new iMac and Mac Pro in the pipeline before he died and therefore his death should not have resulted in the extended waits we've seen to date.![]()
